        Identification of differentially expressed genes from Trichoderma atroviride strain SS003 in the presence of cell wall of Cronartium ribicola

        The fungal genus Trichoderma has been extensively studied due to its role in the mycoparasitism, and thus developed as biocontrol agent against various plant pathogens. Although the mycoparasitic processes of several Trichoderma species have already been well understood, the information about the mycoparasitic mechanisms of Trichoderma strains resulted from different growth conditions or interacting with different phytopathogens is still limited. In this study, we utilized transcriptome sequencing to identify the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) at 0, 24, 72 and 120 h from T. atroviride strain SS003, growing on an induced-medium with cell walls of Pinus armandii pathogen Cronartium ribicola (CRCW). In total, 86,155,316 reads were obtained with 43,077,658 clean reads. Further, 10,422 genes were identified from four transcriptomes and accounted for 93.89% of annotated genes in T. atroviride IMI 206040 genome, reflecting high-quality sequencing and assembly. In each pairwise comparison, a large number of DEGs were identified with different numbers of genes for up- and down-regulation, respectively. In the presence of CRCW, expression of two main glycoside hydrolase gene families (i.e. chitinase and glucosidase) was induced. Most of 14 secreted enzymes by quantitative real time PCR (qPCR) analysis exhibited a consistent expression pattern with that by RNA-Seq data. This comparative study leads to the identification of phase-specific genes in the interactions of T. atroviride SS003 with C. ribicola, and provides potential molecular targets for improved biocontrol strategies.

        THE UPDATED ORBITAL EPHEMERIS OF DIPPING LOW MASS X-ray BINARY 4U 1624-49

        We present our analysis results for an updated orbital ephemeris for the dipping low mass X-ray binary 4U 1624-49, using the light curve collected by the All Sky Monitor (ASM) on board the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) and the Monitor of All-Sky X-ray Image (MAXI). To make clear dip profiles, the light curve from the ASM and the MAXI were divided into ten 500d segments and four 400d segments for ASM and MAXI light curves, respectively, and folded with the linear ephemeris proposed by Smale et al. (2001). The phases of dip centers were determined by the method adopted from Hu et al. (2008). The phase drift was then fitted with a linear function. We obtained an updated orbital period of 0.869896(1) d and a phase zero epoch of JD 2450088.6618(57). No clear orbital period derivative is detected with a 2-sigma upper limit of $1.4{\times}10^{-6}(yr)^{-1}$ from a quadratic curve fitting of the dip phase evolution.

        Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy versus Three-Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy in Definitive Chemoradiotherapy for Cervical Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Comparison of Survival Outcomes and Toxicities

        Purpose The purpose of this study was to compare the survival and toxicities in cervical esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (CESCC) treated by concurrent chemoradiothrapy with either three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) or intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) techniques. Materials and Methods A total of 112 consecutive CESCC patients were retrospectively reviewed. 3D-CRT and IMRT groups had been analyzed by propensity score matching method, with sex, age, Karnofsky performance status, induction chemotherapy, and tumor stage well matched. The Kaplan- Meier method and Cox proportional hazards model were used for overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Toxicities were compared between two groups by Fisher exact test. Results With a median follow-up time of 34.9 months, the 3-year OS (p=0.927) and PFS (p=0.859) rate was 49.6% and 45.8% in 3D-CRT group, compared with 54.4% and 42.8% in IMRT group. The rates of grade ! 3 esophagitis, grade ! 2 pneumonitis, esophageal stricture, and hemorrhage were comparable between two groups, while the rate of tracheostomy dependence was much higher in IMRT group than 3D-CRT group (14.3% vs.1.8%, p=0.032). Radiotherapy technique (hazard ratio [HR], 0.09; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.01 to 0.79) and pretreatment hoarseness (HR, 0.12; 95% CI 0.02 to 0.70) were independently prognostic of tracheostomy dependence. Conclusion No survival benefits had been observed while comparing IMRT versus 3D-CRT in CESCC patients. IMRT with fraction dose escalation and pretreatment hoarseness were considered to be associated with a higher risk for tracheostomy dependence. Radiation dose escalation beyond 60 Gy should be taken into account carefully when using IMRT with hypofractionated regimen.

      • Hakka Image Application to Food Packaging Design for Hakka Regions in Taiwan

        The purpose of this research was to investigate images used in the packaging design for Hakka food. In recent years, the Council for Hakka Affairs, Executive Yuan, Taiwan has used the packaging design for Hakka as image codes to represent Hakka culture, and successfully integrated those codes into packaging designs for Hakka merchandise. Based on a literature review, the study summarized 15 design elements regarding Hakka images and randomly selected 20 Hakka food packaging samples from markets. A visual image analysis was conducted by applying the Semantic Differential and Likert Scale. The results found that "tung blossom", "Hakka women", and "Hakka broad rice noodles" were the three most representative images of Hakka culture. Moreover, "simplification", "refinement", and "internationalization" were found to be the most popular characteristics that formed a new trend in Hakka packaging design. We expect the Hakka packaging design will inspire creativity and promote business development of Hakka Culture Industry.

        螳螂九手 : 中国武艺地域交流的历史见证

        청말과 민국초기에 당랑권의 범주에 속하는 당랑구수 등의 핵심기술이 이미 산동지역을 벗어나 동북과 서북 지역까지 전파가 시작되었다. 다른 유파의 무술과 융합되어 기술이 더욱 정통하게 되었으며, 중국전통무술의 기술과 문화적 함의를 풍부하게 하였다. 이 연구는 서북지역의 통비무예 중의 당랑구수를 단서로 하였으며 문헌자료와 친필원고를 연구의 근거로 하였다. 문화교류의 시각에서 민국시기의 당랑권이 산동 동북과 서북 지역에서의 교류와 변천과정을 심도있게 연구하였다. By the end of the Qing Dynasty and the beginning of the People’s China, the essentials of the mantis boxing, such as Night Mantis Stunts, had been transmitted from Shandong to Northeast and Northwest of China, digested with other boxings and enriched the skills and cultures of Chinese traditional wushu. Based on the Night Mantis Stunts and respective manuscripts preserved in the Tong Bei wushu of northwest of China, the research outlines the development course of the mantis boxing from Shangdong to Northeast and then to Northwest, in the period of the People’s China.

        영유아의 모유 섭취에 따른 폴리브롬화디페닐에테르의 위해성 평가

        본 연구는 한국인 산모의 모유 중 PBDEs의 노출수준 및 위해성평가를 위해 서울지역에서 총 22개의 모유시료를 대상 으로 분석되었다. PBDEs는 모든 대상 모유시료에서 검출되어, 이러한 화학물질이 서울지역에 거주하는 일반인에게 광범위하 게 노출되었음을 시사한다. ΣPBDEs의 잔류수준은 0.84~13.1 ng/g lipid의 범위로 산술평균 농도는 3.56 ng/g lipid, 중앙값은 2.6 ng/g lipid이었다. 모유 중 ΣPBDEs 농도 수준은 중국, 대만, 유럽국가(스위덴)와 유사하고 몇몇 아시아(베트남, 필리핀, 인도네 시아)보다는 다소 높았다. 그러나 세계에서 PBDEs 소비가 가장 많은 북아메리카의 농도 수준보다는 10~100배 낮은 농도였다. 이성질체 기여율은 BDE-47이 가장 높았으며, 다음으로 BDE-153, BDE-100, BDE-99, BDE-28, BDE-183 그리고 BDE-154 순이 었다. BDE-47과 BDE-153의 합은 대부분의 시료에서 ΣPBDEs의 약 65% 이상을 차지하였다. 영아의 모유 수유에 따른 ΣPBDEs 위해성 평가 결과 영아의 모유 수유를 통한 6개월간 평균일일노출량은 16.5 ng/kg·bw/day로 산출되었으며, BDE-47의 인체노 출에 따른 위해도 지수(95th percentile)는 1.2 × 10-1로 예측되어 6개월간 모유 수유로 인한 영아의 건강유해영향은 나타나지 않 을 것으로 평가되었다. This study achieves results from 22 maternity breast milk samples in total to demonstrate exposure level and risk assessment of PBDEs in Seoul area. PBDEs were detected in all the breast milk samples of the present study, indicating that general population in these Seoul area are widely exposed to these chemicals. Residue levels of total PBDEs (sum PBDEs from tri- to hepta-BDE) ranged of 0.84~13.1 ng/g lipid with an arithmetic mean and median of 3.56 ng/g lipid and 2.6 ng/g lipid, respectively. Global comparison shows that the levels of total PBDEs were relatively similar to those of China, Taiwan and European country (Sweden), and somewhat higher than those in some Asian (Vietnam, Philippines, and Indonesia). In the present study, however, the levels of total PBDEs in human milk are still one to two orders of magnitude lower than those in North America. Contribution rate of each congener appeared to be predominant with BDE-47, followed by BDE-153, BDE-100, BDE-99, BDE-154 and BDE-183. The sum of BDE-47 and BDE-153 accounted for more than 65% of total PBDEs in most samples. From the result of the human risk assessment of infants for total PBDEs and BDE-47 by breast milk feeding, we could find out that the average daily doses and hazard index (95th percentile) were 16.5 ng/kg·bw/day and 1.2 × 10-1 each other when nursing for 6 months after infants born. However, it was concluded that the infant health hardly had adverse seriously effects under this research condition.

        서곤은 지방특색이 분명한 종가 무술문화의 유산으로, 지리적으로 광활하고 인문적 특색이 짙은 서북지방에서 오랜 세월에 걸쳐 수 많은 서곤의 선현들이 심혈을 기울여 연마하고 전수하여 당대의 탁월한 명성을 얻게 되었다. 서곤문화를 심도있게 연구하고 전승하는 것은 당대 무술인으로서 피할 수 없는 역사적 사명이다.수많은 서곤의 선현 중에서 마영달 선생은 엄격한 전승의 연원과 심오한 무학의 소양과 탁월한 전승의 성취로 서곤문화에서 이정표적인 대표인물이며, 중국무술계에서 숭고한 명성을 누리고 있다.마영달 선생의 다방면에 관통하고 전방위적인 무학적 수양은 이미 무술계에 잘 알려진 바로, 본문에서는 벽패, 팔극, 번자권, 착각 등의 방면에 걸친 성취에 대해서는 평론하지 않고 서곤의 성취에 대해서만 중점을 두어 토론하겠다. Xi Gun, the prestigious cudgel wushu in northwest of China, is famous for its distinguished native cultural features and abundant martial substance. With generations of masters devoted in studying, Xi Gun has developt its own outstanding status in Chinese kungfu cultural treasure, In this history, Mr.Ma Ying-da, had played a leading role in carrying forward Xi Gun wushu. To commemorate the great devotions of Ma Ying-da, this article is focoused on Ma Ying-da’s sterling hertidge, profound backgroud and great achievements.
