        A 7-years-old 4.5 kg female maltese dog with history of abdominal distension was referred to Veterinary Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University. Hematologic showed mild increase in WBC. Mass with soft tissue density was observed near a bladder in abdominal radiography. Ultrasonography revealed enlarged uterus filled with hypoechoeic materials. It was diagnosed as pyometra and ovariohystectomy was performed. After surgery, the dog was recovered.

        A 6-years-old 2.5kg female maltese dog with history of multiple mass around mammary gland was referred to Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Chungnam National University. There was no evidence of metastasis in survey radiograph. Cytological finding revealed cell crumps of linear structures of epithelial cell origins. Histopathological finding revealed fibrous stroma, myxomatous lesion, catilagenous metaplasia, hyperplasia of lobular alveoli and ductules. Mass was removed by total mastectomy. After surgery, CBC values showed mild anemia, neutropenia and lymphocytosis. General condition was good. For the appropriate evaluation, more periodical and continuous monitoring is needed.

        맥문동 물 추출물을 첨가한 바게트 빵의 품질 특성 및 당뇨유발 흰쥐의 혈당, 혈청지질에 미친 효과

        The quality characteristics of baguette bread added with water extracts of Liriopis tuber(LT) and effect of the diets containing 20% dried and powered baguette with 10% LT on the level of blood sugar and lipids in the diabetes induced rat by streptozotocin were investigated. pH of the dough added with 5~10% LT was 5.00~5.03 which were lower than that of control(5.12). The volume of the dough with 10% LT after 2nd fermentation was the biggest. Loaf volume index of the bread with 10% LT was significantly higher than that of control. L^(*) values of outside and inside of the baguette decreased in proportion to the increase of the LT, while the a^(*) values increased. Color of the bread with LT showed light dark-red. There was no significant difference in hardness, but springiness and gumminess were higher in the bread with 10% LT. Sweet taste increased, color acceptability and overall taste were enhanced by addition of LT, but it did not affect the sour and astringent taste. The overeating phenomenon showed in the diabetes rat decreased in the group fed with baguette bread with LT, while feed efficiency increased by feeding of the bread with LT. The level of glucose, neutral lipid and total cholesterol in blood were 118.92, 95.47 and 37.42 ㎎/dL in the control group, 245.60, 121.54 and 102.43 ㎎/dL in the diabetes control, 148.40, 103.25 and 57.63 ㎎/dL in the baguette diet group, respectively. There was no significant difference of HTR between control group and baguette diet group, while atherogenic index was considerably decreased, which might represent improving and preventing effects of diabetes.

        청국장 물 추출물이 반죽의 발효와 빵의 품질 특성에 미치는 영향

        The effect of water extracts of Chungkukjang(WEC: 10%, w/v), which was prepared using Bacillus subtilis isolated from Korean traditional Chungkukjang, on the pH, acidity and volume of the dough, and loaf volume index(LVI), color, texture, retrogradation degree, microscopic observation and sensory quality of the bread were investigated. Experimental plots were divided to 3 groups(Control; without WEC, Ⅰ; added 2.5% WEC against total amount of water, Ⅱ; added 5.0% WEC against total amount of water). There were no significant difference in pH and acidity among each experimental groups. Dough volume were higher but LVI were lower in the Ⅰ- and Ⅱ-bread than those of control group. L^(*) values of the top crust and internal tissue in the Ⅰ-and Ⅱ-bread were lower than those of control group. The higher addition amounts had the lower L^(*) values. Hardness, strength, gumminess and brittleness were higher, but cohesiveness and springiness were lower in the WEC-breads than those of control. In the results of microscopic observation, there were scarce of the bigger starch granules and a sparse structure, while there were smaller starch granules in the WEC-bread. The scores of crispy taste of the WEC-bread were lower than those of the control group, but there were no significant difference in tenderness, odor, savory taste and overall acceptability between the control and the Ⅰ-bread. The retrogradation rate of the bread stored for 3 days at 25t was 45.09% in control, 17.92% in Ⅰ-bread, and 12.45% in Ⅱ-bread, respectively.

        다슬기로 제조한 칼슘 락테이트가 반죽의 발효와 빵의 품질 및 저장성에 미치는 영향

        This study was conducted to investigate the effect of 0.5% calcium lactate(CaL) on the fermentation of dough and quality and shelf-life of bread. Calcium lactates(CaL-A and CaL-P) were prepared from ash of black snail which contained shell and tissue together(ABS) and powder of the snail(PSB). pH of dough with the CaLs were higher than that of the control and, volume of the dough, loaf volume of bread were lower than those of the control products. But the volumes were almost the same when the pH of the dough were adjusted to pH 5.5. Mean calcium contents of treated bread (39.36~49.70 ㎎/100g) were higher than that of control products(13.43 ㎎/100g). There was no difference in Hunter L^(*), a^(*), b^(*) values between the control and the treated group. Hardness and gumminess of CaL-A treated bread were the highest, but springiness and cohesiveness were the lowest. All the attributes showed no difference in case of pH adjustment(pH 5.5). The smaller pore and larger air cell with rough surface were observed in the CaL treated bread by SEM analysis. Sensory scores of CaL treated bread showed relatively lower values than those of the control products, but the scores increased by pH adjustment. The shelf-life of bread with CaL-P and CaL-A at 20℃ were 4 and 3 days, respectively, while that of the control group 1 day.

        수의의 금기에 관한 고찰

        Folk belief, which originated with the rise of human existence is a fundamental and comprehensive mode of living that reflects sociocultural conditions. Adherents of folk belief accept a certain thing to be true and real without scientific authority and absolute certainty. Taboo can be seen as a kind of folk belief. The object of this study is to examine the taboos in relation to the manufacturing process and the quality of the shroud and to the shrouding customs. I will also try to find out the meaning and significance in this. Through this task, I hope to contrubute to the enhanced understanding of the cultural characteristics, the spiritual life, and the views on afterlife of the Korean people. In Korea, it is considered to be propitious to prepare the shroud on the intercalary month of the leap year, as it allows one to enjoy longevity healthy and sound. Moreover, as this belief gives credence and repose while preparing for the "final departure," this custom is relatively well observed. From the taboo concerning leap months, we infer that death as viewed as a commencement of a new life, which reveals a positive view on afterlife. This can be seen as a return to the origin of anti-universal space in this "bonus" month of anti-universal time. Taboos on the manufacturing process of the shroud is related to the belief that it allows the deceased to go to the next world without any hesistation or disturbances. This symbolizes the immortality of the human soul: i.e. that the human spirit does not end in this world but continues on to the next. Taboos concerning the preparation process of the shroud as well as various other taboos are related to the belief that preparation for the shroud should be done in sincerity and secredness with a thoughtful consideration for the deceased. This can be perceived as an implication to sanctity for the dead.

        Objectives: This study was performed to evaluate whether there is the difference of graft height changes in radiographic evaluation in single implants and multiple implants after maxillary sinus floor augmentation with an auto-xenograft mixture. Methods: The study group comprised 29 patients (16 men, 13 women; mean age, 56.5±12.4 years; range, 27 to 87 years) treated at the implant clinic of the Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital. They were treated with the sinus floor augmentation of lateral window technique and simultaneous placement of dental implants. Their implants have been evaluated for 42.4±10.5 months. To evaluate the height of grafted material, the real implant length was compared with that of panoramic radiography evaluated by a digital caliper (PACS program), and then the real height of grafted material was assumed. SPSS 19.0 was used in statistical analysis. Wilcoxon singed rank test was utilized for P value and Mann-Whitney for statistical significance in the changes of grafted height between single implants and multiple implants. The level of statistical significance was defined as P<0.001. Results: The evaluated graft height in single implants' group decreased to 0.60±0.54 mm at the time of delivery (after 7.5 months, P=0.001), in multi-unit implants' group to 0.96±0.84 mm (after 6.5 months, P<0.001). The evaluated graft height in single implants' group decreased to 1.11±0.75 mm at the last follow-up (after 43.5 months, P=0.001), in multi-unit implants' group to 1.52±0.99 mm (after 41.8 months, P<0.001). Mann-Whitney test was used for the difference between single implants and multi-unit implants. There was no difference in two groups at the time of delivery and the last follow-up (P>0.001). Conclusion: There was no statistical significance of radiographic graft height after maxillary sinus floor augmentation between single implants and multiple implants.

        한천, Sodium Alginate 및 Carrageenan첨가가 유과(부수게)바탕의 품질에 미치는 영향

        This study was to evaluate effects of agar, sodium alginate and carrageenan on quality of Yugwa(Busuge) base. In the base preparation agar, sodium alginate and carrageenan were added 0.0, 0.1, 0.5, 1.0 and 3.0%(w/w), respectively. Volume, shape, hardness. color(L, a and b value), crude lipid content and sensory evaluation(taste and crispness) of the Yugwa base was measured. Volume of the base was higher than control in case of 0.1~0.5%(w/w) agar, sodium alginate and carrageenan, of which sodium alginate was the highest. Shapes were similar to control. Hardness and crude lipid content was decreased proportional to amount of addition of the three seesweed polysaccharides. the whiteness(L-value) was increased but the yellowness(a-value) and the redness(bvalue) decreased. Taste and crispness were increased in the case of 0.1~1.0%(w/w) of sodium alginate, but agar and carrageenan decreased.

      • 개에서 교통사고에 의한 폐좌성 1례

        A 4 years old, mixed male dog with a history of traffic accident was presented to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with tachypnea and respiratory distress. Physical examination showed that the dog was auscultated crackles sounds, dysynchronous abdominal breathing pattern, hemoptysis, hematuria, urodynia and right and left scleral congestion. Blood and blood chemical examination revealed that WBC, AST and ALT was highly elevated. Parenchymal pulmonary fluid and closed pneumothorax were observed by thoracic radiography. This case was diagnosed as pulmonary contusion. Intravenous fluid and oxygen was administered and also dexamethasone(1mg/kg, Ⅳ), furosemide(2mg/kg, Ⅳ), (ampicillin, 20mg/kg, Ⅳ) and meloxicam(0.2mg/kg, PO) were intravenously injected for 5 days. Abnormal clinical signs were disappeared after treatment.
