        College Students’ Identity Negotiation Through Teacher Feedback and Revision in EFL Writing

        This qualitative study explores how EFL writer identities are negotiated, imposed, or assumed while they attend to teacher feedback and utilize it in their revisions. The study focused on two college students: K and J. The data came from interviews with each student and students’ drafts, first and final, for each of four assignments, along with their teacher’s comments. For K and J, some identities were ascribed by their native English?speaking teacher, while others were claimed by the individual her or himself. J was very comfortable with the assumed identity of a non?native speaker, while K struggled to negotiate her identity as an EFL writer, resisting the suggestions of her native English?speaking teacher in revisions. K, with a strong sense of self, made her own choices about which identity she would choose from her available repertoire. She quite deliberately gained a L2 writer identity. For J, his ideological subjectivity as a dependent foreigner in an EFL writing classroom did not foster a stronger sense of identity as a L2 writer. The teacher predominantly focused on language errors and tended to see EFL writing mostly as language practice. Consequently, his pedagogical decisions limited J’s access to a more desirable L2 writer identity.

        This study was designed to exam the aged's needs for spiritual nursing care. The purpose was to serve as a basis for the development of spiritual nursing practice. The major findings are as follows : 1. The degree of needs for spiritual nursing care as area was that needs of love and relationship mean 22.0, needs of meaning and object mean 28.2, needs of forgiving mean 13.5. Total needs for spiritual nursing care mean 63.7, which was on the upper middle level. The needs of meaning and object was rated highest. 2. Among the general characteristics of the subjects, needs of love and relatiohship wasn't significanlty different. 3. Among the general characteristics of the subjects, needs of meaning and object was significantly different according to two factors : age(F=7.260, p=0.001), religion(F=5.275, p=0.001). Higher needs of meaning and object was possessed by the older than the younger, by the one who have religion than the other. 4. Among the general characteristics of the subjects, four factors made a significantly difference to needs of forgiving : sex(t=-2.851, p=0.006), age(F=8.201, p=0.001), religion(F=6.928, p=0.000), disease(t=2.327, p=0.024). Higher needs of forgiving was possessed by man than woman, by the older than the younger, by the one who have religion than the other, by the one who have disease than the other.

      • 고양이에서 영양학적인 원인에 의해 발생한 속발성 부갑상선기능항진증 1례

        A 10 month-old Korean domestic shorthaired cat(male, 1.4kg)was admitted to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with the history of astasia the onest of which was 3 month ago and all-meat diets. Physical examination revealed thin, growth retarded and lying in lateral recumbency. Radiograph showed abnormally radiolucent bones, thin cortices, kyphosis and lordosis of the spine and multiple fractures of the femurs. Result of serum biochemical test revealed mild hypocarcemia. Serum parathormone and 1, 25(OH)2-vitamin D3 levels were markedly elevated, whereas 25(OH)-vitamin D3 level was in normal range. Nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism was diagnosed by history taking, physical examination, laboratory examination and radiography. Calcium gluconate with balanced commercial cat food was given. On 24 days later, improvements were found in clinical signs and radiographs.

      • 개에서 발생한 만성 단독 비장 염전의 진단 및 치료 1례

        A 5-year-old German Shepherd dog(intact male, 27kg) was admitted to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with the history of anorexia and vomiting. On physical examination, he was depressed and had abdominal distention. A complete blood count indicated leukocytosis and anemia. Radiographic findings included a large soft tissue mass in the middle to caudal abdomen and loss of serosal detail. Ultrasonographs showed splenomegaly with mixed ethoic parenchyma, hyperechoic area around the splenic hilus, and loss of venous flow. Computed tomography revealed enlarged spleen with partially enhanced parenchyma. Chronic isolated splenic torsion was diagnosed and splenectomy was performed. Histopathologic examination revealed chronic passive congestion of the spleen. He was recovered normally after surgery without any complications.

        중학교에서의 창의적 재량활동을 통한 한국 문화 정체성 교육의 실제

        This study was advanced based on an actual class with korean cultural identity education through the expanded new creative discretionary activities in the seventh education course. To analyze students' demands and responses after the class, questionnaires were used on 121 lst graders at a middle school. In addition, depth interview method and oral questionnaire were used for more accurate contents. The data of teaching method and teacher`s teaching resource was used as data of the study analyzing detailed operating case and literature research. Before observing the status of the korean cultural identity education, in order to help understand the creative discretionary activities at middle school, the aim and content of the discretionary activities, organization management of the creative discretionary activities and studying types methods of the creative discretionary activities were inquired. Also, the evaluation of the creative discretionary activities was performed And after defining the "identity", the direction of korean cultural identity education was set to present suggestions after analyzing the students' responses when carrying out classes by the demands of the students. In case of the actual classes, classes about our culture which is assigned as world's cultural heritages such as drawing the "tae-guk-gi", experiencing traditional play, tasting our food, "han-gul" love game, etc. considering the time, location and availability of resources to establish korean cultural identity based on the students' various responses. As for the management of the class, the time was coordinated in advance to make it possible for realistic management. In case of group activity, the group was organized beforehand and the students named the group leader and the name of the team. According to the characteristics of theme related to the methods of study, the teacher`s lesson and self-directed learning method should be used in a diverse manner but we tried to make students' activity the focal center. As stated before, group evaluation and individual evaluation was separated to suit the type of the class, and appropriate reward was presented. Enthusiasm and creativity, preparation and interest level, and attendance of small group activities were subjects of the evaluation. After analyzing the students responses with the class done, making/eating "bi-bim-bapp", traditional play, drawing "tae-guk-gi", "han-gul" love game, our culture that has been assigned as world`s cultural heritage was the order of responses and showed responses that they felt a lot about korean culture identity. And out of the various study methods that were used in the korean cultural identity class, the class that students preferred the most was experience learning. This study focused on finding out effective class in the cases of actual classes based on the demandes of the students when performing the korean cultural identity education. However, further study to find more effective classes in the actual classes by analyzing teaces demands and we hope for the diverse korean cultural identity education.

      • 입원 정신질환자들의 수면의 질과 관련요인에 관한 연구

        본 연구는 입원 정신질환자들의 생활습관과 수면의 질과의 관련요인을 알아보고자 시도되었다. 전남 나주시 국립나주병원 개방병동에 입원한 정신질환자 154명을 대상으로 2008년 7월 17일부터 7월 25일까지 인구사회학적 특성, 임상적 특성, 입원 생활습관, 입원병력특성 등을 설문지 및 병록지로 조사하였으며, Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire(LSEQ) 변형도구를 이용하여 수면의 질을 측정하였다. 입원 정신질환자들의 수면의 질 점수는 17.53±5.03점이었으며, 단순분석상에서 수면의 질은 인구사회학적 특성 등과는 관련이 없었다. 그러나 다중회귀분석 결과 과체중군에서, 입원횟수가 많을수록, 통증 정도가 심할수록 수면의 질은 나빴다. 반면, 수면제를 복용한 사람이 복용하지 않은 사람에 비해 수면의 질이 좋았다. 생활습관과 수면의 질과 유의한 차이가 없었던 것은 입원이라는 동일 환경의 한계 때문이라고 생각된다. 이상의 결과로 볼 때 입원 정신질환자들의 수면의 질을 높이기 위해서는 수면제 복용의 약물치료와 함께 체중조절을 고려하고, 통증에 대한 적극적인 대처가 이루어져야 할 것으로 생각된다. Objectives : This study was performed to identify the relations between daily habits and quality of sleep of the psychiatric inpatients. Methods: We interviewed 154 the psychiatric inpatients of open ward in Naju national hospital, Chonnam Naju, from July 17, 2008 to July 25 of the same year. Data was collected using disease records and a questionnaire about socio- demographic characteristics, clinical characteristics, habits in hospital, and characteristics in history of hospitalization. And we measured the quality of sleep using the subjective sleep questionnaire modified from Leeds Sleep Evaluation Questionnaire (LSEQ). Results: The scores of quality of sleep of inpatients were 17.53±5.03. Quality of sleep had no statistically significant relationship with various characteristics in the simple analysis. However, as a result of the multiple regression analysis, the sleep quality of the overweight group was low, and the higher frequency of hospitalization and more pain they had, the worse sleep quality was. However, the sleep quality of those who took hypnotics was higher than that of those who did not. Conclusions: This study suggests that there was no significant difference between daily habits in the hospital and the sleep quality because of limits to the same environment of being in hospital. Based on the results above, in order to enhance the sleep quality of the psychiatric inpatients, we should consider both medication which takes hypnotics and weight control and actively deal with the pain.

        감마선 조사된 감자, 마늘, 생강에서 조사선량과 저장기간에 따른 DNA fragmentation의 변화

        The changes in DNA damage were investigated during storage after irradiation. Potato, garlic were irradiated at 0.05, 0.07, 0.1 and 0.15 kGy and stored for 3 months. Ginger was irradiated at 0.01, 0.02, 0.03, 0.04 and 0.05 kGy and stored for 1 month. The comet assay was applied to the sample immediately after irradiation and at the end of storage. Samples were isolated, grounded and the suspended cells were embedded in an agarose layer. After lysis of the cells, they were electrophoresed for 1 min. and then stained. DNA fragmentation in seeds caused by irradiation was quantified as tail length and tail moment (tail length × % DNA in tail) by comet image analyzing system. Right after irradiation, the differences in tail length between unirradiated and irradiated samples were significant(p〈0.05) in potato, garlic and ginger. With increasing the irradiation doses, statistically significant longer extension of the DNA from the nucleus toward anode was observed. The results represented as tail moment showed similar tendency to those of tail length. Similarly in the stored samples, even 1 or 3 months after irradiation, all the irradiated samples significantly showed longer tail length than the unirradiated controls. These results indicate that the comet assay could be one of the simple methods of detecting irradiated samples. Moreover, the method could detect DNA damage even after 1 or 3 months after irradiation.

      • 울산시 보건소 당뇨교실에 참가한 당뇨환자의 교육 효과에 관한 연구

        최근 유병률이 증가하고 있는 당뇨병 환자에 대한 영양교육의 효과를 알아보기 위하여 울산시 보건소에서 환자 36명을 대상으로 교육을 실시하였다. 설문지를 통하여 교육 전과후의 신체계측, 혈당, 당뇨병의 합병증과 임상 증상을 조사하였고, 식습관의 변화와 교육의 효과 등을 분석한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 당뇨교육 후 체중이 감소한 경향으로 나타났고, BMI(kg/m')는 교육 전후가 거의 변화가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 당뇨교실 전후의 혈당치를 조사한 결과 공복시 혈당이 교육전보다 교육 후 줄어들었다(p<0.1). 식후 혈당치는 170.0 ± 70.71mg/dl에서 158.50 ± 40.31mg/dl로 줄어드는 경향으로 나타났다. 교육전후의 건강증상의 상관관계를 보면 눈흐림 증상이 유의적으로 감소된 것으로 나타났고, 갈증을 느끼는 경우도 감소한 경향이 나타났다. 교육 후에 교육 전보다 식사 조절을 많이 하는 것으로 나타났고, 식품교환표를 이용하여 식사조절을 하는 것으로 나타났다. 당뇨교실교육은 91.7%가 도움이 되었다고 당뇨교실이 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of nutrition education for diabetic patients commuting to a local health center in Ulsan city. We examined the effect of nutrition education on physical characteristics and blood glucose by comparing before and after education with questionnaire. All diabetic subjects were interviewed for general characteristics, diabetic complications, food habits and education effect. BMI was no difference before and after education. Fasting glucose level were significantly lower after education and postprandial glucose level were decreased after education (158.50 ± 40.31mg/dl) compared before education(170.0 ± 70.71mg/dl). but there was no significance in postprandial glucose. When we compared before and after diabetic symptoms, sights disturbance were decreased aftar education and the symptoms of polydipsia were decreased after education. The diabetic subjects were executed diet therapy after education. This study showed that nutrition education for diabetic patient was effective in significant changes.
