        Stroscope: Multi-Scale Visualization of Irregularly Measured Time-Series Data

        <P>For irregularly measured time-series data, the measurement frequency or interval is as crucial information as measurements are. A well-known time-series visualization such as the line graph is good at showing an overall temporal pattern of change; however, it is not so effective in revealing the measurement frequency/interval while likely giving illusory confidence in values between measurements. In contrast, the bar graph is more effective in showing the frequency/interval, but less effective in showing an overall pattern than the line graph. We integrate the line graph and bar graph in a unified visualization model, called a ripple graph, to take the benefits of both of them with enhanced graphical integrity. Based on the ripple graph, we implemented an interactive time-series data visualization tool, called Stroscope, which facilitates multi-scale visualizations by providing users with a graphical widget to interactively control the integrated visualization model. We evaluated the visualization model (i.e., the ripple graph) through a controlled user study and Stroscope through long-term case studies with neurologists exploring large blood pressure measurement data of stroke patients. Results from our evaluations demonstrate that the ripple graph outperforms existing time-series visualizations, and that Stroscope has the efficacy and potential as an effective visual analysis tool for (irregularly) measured time-series data.</P>

        주민참여와 지방자치 구현을 위한 주민참여예산제에 관한 논의

        As the local self-government system has become activated, and the participatory consciousness of residents has gone up, so has the attention on the residents-participant budgetary system in the process of preparation of local government budgets. The residents-participant budgetary system is the institution designed to upgrade transparency and fairness of local government finances by allowing residents participate directly in their budget preparation process. The citizen participate in the process of the compilation of a budget, and they estimate the necessity and validity of the business, estimated effect and the budget should be distributed most efficiently for the citizen therefore the budget system of participation is in the interest of elevating the quality of residents life. Especially the budget system of citizen participation aims to raise the transparency of fiscal management and to embody the ideal of fiscal democracy. The budget system of citizen participation in korea starts from as a part of the budget participation movement by the group of civic movement. In this study, I studied the significance, function and introduction of participatory budgeting to realize the ideals of self-governmen and analyze its meaning and limits by comparing the foreign cases with the structure and surroundings of local government finance to find out whether the participatory budgeting institution can be successfully managed in the Republic of Korea. The Participatory Budgeting is institutionalized to provide the opportunity to reflect the intention of the people in the course of budget compilation process by the head of local government in Korea. In the past, local residents expressed their intents and will regarding the financial operations (as the form of petition, monitoring and control), which is ensured by the freedom of speech. But, today the mandatory implementation of participatory budgeting enables the local residents to take part in the channel to discuss the direction of public finance management. Besides it may be evaluated to overcome the crisis of democracy due to the tendency of strengthening the function of parties and administrative bodies with pluralistic democratic public sphere. Therefore, it is not the means of direct democracy, but should be understood within the framework of representative democracy that the democratic legitimacy of budget is strengthened by the third representatives of local residents (neither the local assembly nor the local government). Therefore, it is necessary to expand the scope of citizens`` participation, guarantee citizen-led autonomy and offer an opportunity for all citizens to participate. For this, a wide variety of information should be available, and all budget-related processes from budgeting to settlement of accounts should be open and transparent to attract citizens`` participation. To answer the fundamental purpose of the citizen-participatory budget system, in addition, it is important to develop citizens`` expertise by holding conference and public hearing and operating local budget schools. It is also required to design a customized citizen-participatory budget system considering regional characteristics and conditions and keep developing the operating system for better efficiency by expanding citizens`` voluntary participation.

        얼굴표정은 상대방에게 자신의 감정과 생각을 간접적으로 나타내는 중요한 의사소통의 표현이 되며 상대방에게 직접적인 표현방법의 수단이 되기도 한다. 이러한 표현 방법은 컴퓨터를 매개체로 하는 메신저간의 의사 전달에 있어서 얼굴표정을 사용함으로써 상대방의 감정을 문자로만 인식하는 것이 아니라 현재 상대방이 느끼는 내적인 감정까지 인식하여 대화할 수 있다. 본 논문은 3D 메시로 구성된 얼굴 모델을 이용하여 사용자가 입력한 한글 메시지의 한글 음절을 분석 추출 하고, 3D 얼굴 메시에서 8개의 입술 제어점을 사용하여 입 모양의 변화를 보여주는 3D Avatar 아바타 메신저 시스템을 설계 및 구현 하였다.

      • Towards optimal design of high‐rise building tube systems

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>The primary objectives of this study are to investigate effects of varying design parameters on the tube action and shear lag behaviour of a typical reinforced concrete frame‐wall tube building, and propose optimal design approaches for similar tube structures. A parametric study was conducted with selected key design variables on the performance of a 55‐storey hotel building planned in New York City. The lateral force resistance of the case study building is primarily exerted by exterior shear walls in one direction and by exterior moment frames in the other direction, enhanced by the tube action credited to the connection of the walls and the frames. The design variables considered for the parametric study include the column depth, beam depth, column width and beam width of the moment frames. The performance of each model was assessed in terms of overall and critical (maximum) storey drifts, force distributions between various lateral force‐resisting members and shear lag behaviour. Overall, the effects of the column depth (column dimension parallel to the frame direction) on the tube action and shear lag behaviour were more prominent than the other member dimensions.         Modeling of cyclic joint shear deformation contributions in RC beam-column connections to overall frame behavior

        In seismic analysis of moment-resisting frames, beam-column connections are often modeled with rigid joint zones. However, it has been demonstrated that, in ductile reinforced concrete (RC) moment-resisting frames designed based on current codes (to say nothing of older non-ductile frames), the joint zones are in fact not rigid, but rather undergo significant shear deformations that contribute greatly to global drift. Therefore, the "rigid joint" assumption may result in misinterpretation of the global performance characteristics of frames and could consequently lead to miscalculation of strength and ductility demands on constituent frame members. The primary objective of this paper is to propose a rational method for estimating the hysteretic joint shear behavior of RC connections and for incorporating this behavior into frame analysis. The authors tested four RC edge beam-column-slab connection subassemblies subjected to earthquake-type lateral loading; hysteretic joint shear behavior is investigated based on these tests and other laboratory tests reported in the literature. An analytical scheme employing the modified compression field theory (MCFT) is developed to approximate joint shear stress vs. joint shear strain response. A connection model capable of explicitly considering hysteretic joint shear behavior is then formulated for nonlinear structural analysis. In the model, a joint is represented by rigid elements located along the joint edges and nonlinear rotational springs embedded in one of the four hinges linking adjacent rigid elements. The connection model is able to well represent the experimental hysteretic joint shear behavior and overall load-displacement response of connection subassemblies.

      • 무인이동체 드론의 취약점분석 및 대응기술 연구 동향

        군사 등의 특수 목적으로만 사용되었던 무인비행체 드론이 최근 상용 수준의 간결한 구조와 저가화가 가능해지면서 여러 제조업체를 통하여 민간분야의 다양한 응용에 활용 가능함을 증명하고 있다. 그러나 제조업체들 간의 시장 우위 선점을 위한 과열 경쟁으로 인하여 보안 안전성 검증 단계를 거치지 않은 드론과 이에 수반되는 애플리케이션이 시장에 바로 출시되면서 이들이 우리 사회를 향한 공격도구로 활용될 수 있다는 새로운 잠재적 위협이 우려되고 있다, 이와 관련하여 현재 드론과 애플리케이션과의 연결 및 데이터 통신 과정에서 완성도가 낮은 접근제어 기술이나 암호화되지 않은 통신방식을 비롯하여 드론 내부 소프트웨어의 코딩 상의 문제점 등에 의하여 다양한 취약점이 노출되고 있는 상태이다. 이러한 취약점들로 인하여 드론의 인증 해제 및 하이재킹을 통한 불법 영상촬영이나 개인정보의 유출 등을 비롯하여 특정 목표물을 향한 드론의 고의적 추락 등이 발생할 경우 재산 피해뿐만 아니라 인명 피해까지 발생할 수 있다. 특히, 현재의 드론 응용은 초기단계여서 향후 다양한 응용과 유관 기술들이 폭넓게 전개되어야 하는 시점에서 이러한 사고 가능성은 매우 심각하게 인식되어야 할 것이다. 더구나 제4차 산업혁명 시대의 드론은 비상시를 위한 다이나믹 모바일 게이트웨이 역할까지도 수행하여야 하는 환경에서 악의적인 행위는 전체 사회로 확산될 우려도 있으므로 미래 사회의 드론을 위한 안전문제는 매우 시급하고 중대하다고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 고에서는 현재까지 발표된 드론에 대한 다양한 보안위협을 조사하고 이러한 보안위협을 요소별로 분류하여 정리하였다. 본 기고가 간단하게나마 정리한 내용을 통하여 다양한 보안위협에 대한 대응기술을 준비하기 위한 시발점이 되었으면 한다.
