Robust Design of a Rope Ascender Based on Geometric parameters of Traction Sheave

Myeongjin Choi,Hobyeong Chae,Kyungmin Kim,TaeWon Seo 한국정밀공학회 2021 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.22 No.5

In this study, an optimal-traction sheave is designed to prevent slip for a two-degrees-of-freedom facade-cleaning robot called Dual Ascender Robot (DAR). The DAR uses the length of the rope to estimate its position. Therefore, if a slip occurs, it becomes difficult to measure the length of the rope, thereby making it difficult to estimate position. Problems with position estimation may also cause difficulties in achieving control. The redesigned traction sheave was thoroughly evaluated by experiments. A well-known Taguchi method was used as the experimental procedure, and the optimal design parameters of the sheave were determined as hoop direction groove shape of 0.8, axial direction groove pitch of 6°, and axial direction groove depth of 2 mm. Verification experiments comparing the traction sheave with the optimal condition to that used in DAR showed improved performance. Therefore, it is expected that applying the optimal traction sheave to a DAR in further studies would help achieve better position estimation by preventing slips

      • GCC based Compiler Construction for Compact DSP32

( Myeongjin Cho ),( Hokyoon Lee ),( Giang Nguyen Thi Huong ),( Seon Wook Kim ),( Youngsun Han ),( Jungyoung Um ) 한국정보처리학회 2011 한국정보처리학회 학술대회논문집 Vol.18 No.1

Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) executes multiple instructions in parallel. In order to exploit higher performance, i.e., higher parallelism, VLIW compiler groups as many instructions into one word as possible. In this paper, we show how to construct a VLIW C compiler based on GCC for CDSP32 (Compact Digital Signal Processor 32-bit) which is an embedded DSP processor to issue two instructions in one VLIW. Also, we evaluated the compiler on EEMBC benchmark; the experiment result showed that the total number of dynamic instructions of the VLIW compiler was reduced by 18% on average over without VLIW instruction scheduling.

Effects of Language Intervention based on Augmented Reality for Verbal Expression in Children with Expressive Language Delay

2018 Communication Sciences and Disorders Vol.23 No.2

Objectives: When learning verbs that represent the movement, this study hypothesized that language intervention based on augmented reality (AR) can be more effective than picture cards and examined what effect AR has on the improving verbal expression of children with delayed expressive-language development. The study developed an application using AR that mixed reality with virtual reality in an application for children with expressive language delay. Methods: The subjects were three children (mean chronological age, 3.6 years) whose expressive language abilities were delayed more than 6 months beyond than their chronological age. Eighty-four goal verbs were presented using AR in a multiple baseline design, along with face-to-face training to improve verbal expressions. Results: Children with expessive language delay showed increased accuracy in verb expression through language intervention based on AR. Additionally, the children generalized their improvements by expressing goal verbs even when they were presented as picture cards. Conclusion: This study shows that language intervention based on AR is effective for improving the verbal expression of children with expressive language delay. Utilizing to represent the movement and status of verbs has positive effects on verbal expression.

      • Integration of FEPs for Development of Scenarios

Vol.21 No.2

According to the analysis of the Korean Radioactive Waste Society, saturation of nuclear power plant temporary storage is expected sequentially from 2031, and accordingly, the need for highlevel radioactive waste disposal facilities has emerged. In order to establish a repository for high-level radioactive waste, the performance and safety analysis of the repository must be conducted in compliance with regulatory requirements. For safety analysis, it needs a collection of arguments and evidence. and IAEA defined it as ‘Safety case’. The Systematic method, which derives scenarios by systematizing and combining possible phenomena around the repository, is widely used for developing Safety case. Systematic methods make use of the concept of Features, Events and Processes (FEP). FEP identifies features that affect repository performance, events that can affect a short period of time, and processes that can have an impact over a long period of time. Many countries, such as Finland, Sweden, Japan, United States, etc., are in process of licensing disposal facilities by using ‘Safety case’. And they then develop their own project-specified FEP lists and employ them for performing safety assessments. However, the systematic procedure for generating scenarios for safety evaluation is not clearly defined. According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Safety Standards Series (SSG- 23), the bottom-up method is an approach for conducting safety analysis using Features, Events, and Processes (FEPs). However, the process of how each FEP is utilized to establish a scenario for safety evaluation remains unclear. Additionally, there exists not only a bottom-up approach for generating scenarios using FEPs, but also a hybrid scenario development method that incorporates a top-down approach based on safety functions. Each country address scenario derivation in accordance with the adopted hybrid method. Nevertheless, a challenge arises in its application due to discrepancies between their approach and the hybrid approach specific which we are going on. Hence, this study introduces the FEP integration methodology for generating scenarios based on the hybrid scenario development method using the FEP list.

      • Expert Opinion Collection Methodology and Integrated FEP List Development for High-level Radioactive Waste Disposal Site Establishment

Vol.21 No.1

Spent nuclear fuel temporary storage in South Korea is approximately 70% of total storage capacity as of the 4th quarter of 2022 amount is stored. In addition, according to the analysis of the Korean Radioactive Waste Society, saturation of nuclear power plant temporary storage is expected sequentially from 2031, and accordingly, the need for high-level radioactive waste disposal facilities has emerged. Globally, after the conclusion of the EU Taxonomy, for nuclear energy in order to become an ecofriendly energy, it is necessary to have a high-level radioactive waste disposal site and submit a detailed operation plan for high-level radioactive waste disposal site by 2050. Finland and Sweden have already received permission for the construction of high-level radioactive waste disposal facilities, and other countries, such as Switzerland, Japan, the United States, and Canada, are in the process of licensing disposal facilities. Since it is a characteristic of the Systematic method to compose a scenario by combining these FEP, the Systematic method is the basic premise for the development of FEP. Completeness is important for FEP, and comprehensiveness is important for scenarios. However, combining all the FEP into one scenario is time-consuming and difficult to ascertain the comprehensiveness of the scenario. Therefore, an Integrated FEP list is being developed to facilitate tracking between FEP and scenarios by integrating similar FEP. In this study, during the integrated FEP development process, a method for utilizing experts that can be used for difficult parts of quantitative evaluation and a quantitative evaluation process through the method were presented.

      • Quantized Consensus Criterion for Discrete-time Multi-agent Systems with Communication Delay

Vol.2013 No.10

This paper proposes a new consensus criterion for discrete-time multi-agent systems with communicationdelay and quantization. The interconnection information through the sensor of each agent are measuring to be the quantized by a logarithmic quantizer, and its quantization error is included in the proposed method. By constructing a suitable Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and utilizing reciprocally convex approach, a new consensus criterion for the concerned systems is established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) which can be easily solved by various effective optimization algorithms. One numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
