Modified screen‑printed electrochemical biosensor design compatible with mobile phones for detection of miR‑141 used to pancreatic cancer biomarker

        Muhammed Bekmezci,Ramazan Bayat,Merve Akin,Zeynep Kazel Coguplugil,Fatih Sen 한국탄소학회 2023 Carbon Letters Vol.33 No.6

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are emerging materials as ideal biomarkers for noninvasive cancer detection in the early phase. In this article, a simple and label-free electrochemical miRNA biosensor was developed. A single-stranded DNA (ss-DNA) probes were successfully mapped to f-MWCNT and hybridized with the target miR-141 sequence. The optimum peak points of the obtained hybridization were determined using Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) and Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV) methods. Significant peaks were observed in the results, depending on miR-141 at different concentrations. The linear relationship (ν) between redox peak currents (Ip) and scanning rate indicated that electron transfer (ET) between miR-141 and the electrode surface was accomplished successfully. In DPV measurements, miR-141 was measured with a low detection limit (LOD) in the 1.3–12 nM concentration range, and the LOD and limit of quantification (LOQ) results were found to be 3 and 9.1 pM, respectively. Besides, selectivity test was investigated for the biosensor using different target analytes and a significant difference in value was observed between the peak currents of miR-141, and other target molecules. This developed strategy has been found to detect miR-141 sensitively, selectively and without tags, and its integration into mobile devices has been successfully carried out.

The fuzzy logic-based modeling of a micro-scale sloped solar chimney power plant

Muhammed Huseyin Guzel,Recep Emre Unal,Ahmet Onder,Muhammed Arif Sen,Faruk Kose 대한기계학회 2021 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.35 No.3

The energy demand of world is increasing worldwide because of increasing population and developing technology. The use of environmentally friendly renewable resources is very important in providing the increasing energy needs. In the renewable energy sources, the solar energy has a strategic importance because of its huge potential and unlimited. The production of electrical energy by solar chimney power plants is one of the reliable and profitable methods. Fuzzy logic-based approaches are commonly used for modeling different systems in many fields. Also, a renewable energy system can be modelled by fuzzy definitions. In this way, it can provide efficiently and quickly theoretical estimates of systems with productive simulations. In this study, using the experimental data obtained from the micro-scale sloped solar chimney power plant in carried on scientific research project by authors, the obtaining and verifying a fuzzy logic-based model (FLBM) that can calculate the change in air velocity at turbine according to the change of radiation and temperature is presented. The air velocity at the turbine inlet is the considerable variable determining the electricity generation in a solar chimney. Thus, the output of the model is determined as this air velocity. In changes in the radiation and temperature values are defined as inputs. A two input-one output fuzzy model is obtained, in which the inference method is designed in the form of Mamdani and the membership functions in the form of the triangle, making inferences according to the rule base determined by the experience achieved from the experimentally studies. In order to investigate the accuracy of the FLBM, the simulation results and the data get from experimental setup in April 2019 are compared and evaluated. The validation of the FLBM compared to the experimental system is investigated using different error evaluation criteria. It is proved that the results of FLBM and experimental data are realized at a high rate (95.95 %) close to each other and similarly.

      • Bivariate Dagum distribution

Muhammed, Hiba Z. The Korean Reliability Society 2017 International Journal of Reliability and Applicati Vol.18 No.2

Abstract. Camilo Dagum proposed several variants of a new model for the size distribution of personal income in a series of papers in the 1970s. He traced the genesis of the Dagum distributions in applied economics and points out parallel developments in several branches of the applied statistics literature. The main aim of this paper is to define a bivariate Dagum distribution so that the marginals have Dagum distributions. It is observed that the joint probability density function and the joint cumulative distribution function can be expressed in closed forms. Several properties of this distribution such as marginals, conditional distributions and product moments have been discussed. The maximum likelihood estimates for the unknown parameters of this distribution and their approximate variance-covariance matrix have been obtained. Some simulations have been performed to see the performances of the MLEs. One data analysis has been performed for illustrative purpose.

An application of rock physics modeling to quantify the seismic response of gas hydrate-bearing sediments in Makran accretionary prism, offshore, Pakistan

        Muhammed Irfan Ehsan,Nisar Ahmed,Perveiz Khalid,Liu Xue Wei,Mustansar Naeem 한국지질과학협의회 2016 Geosciences Journal Vol.20 No.3

Naturally occurring gas hydrates are potential future energy source. A significant amount of gas hydrates is interpreted through seismic reflection data in the form of bottom simulating reflector (BSR) present in the sediments of the convergent continental margin of Pakistan. However, the seismic character of these hydratebearing unconsolidated sediments is not properly investigated. Since no direct measurements are available for quantitative estimation of gas hydrate and free gas in these sediments, therefore detailed knowledge of seismic velocities is essential. Seismic velocities of the gas hydrate-bearing sediments in the study area are estimated by using the effective medium theory and the fluid substitution modeling. The results show that the presence of gas hydrates increases the stiffness of the unconsolidated sediments; whereas the presence of free gas decreases the stiffness of these sediments. It is noted that seismic velocities and density of hydrate-bearing sediments are highly affected by saturation and distribution pattern of gas hydrates. The hydrate-bearing sediments seem to be characterized not only by high P-wave velocity (about 2800 m/s) but also by anomalously low S-wave velocity (about 850 m/s). As pure gas-hydrates have much higher seismic velocities than those of host sediments, presence of gas-hydrate increases the seismic velocities, whereas free-gas below the hydrate-bearing sediments decreases the velocities. Seismic reflection from the BSR exhibits a wide range of amplitude variation with offset characteristics, which depend upon the saturation and distribution of hydrates above and free gas below the BSR. We have also demonstrated that some attributes like acoustic and shear impedances, and AVO can be used as important proxies to detect gas hydrate saturation.

Non-preemptive Queueing Model of Spectrum Handoff Scheme Based on Prioritized Data Traffic in Cognitive Wireless Networks

Muhammed Enes Bayrakdar,Ali Çalhan 한국전자통신연구원 2017 ETRI Journal Vol.39 No.4

In this study, a non-preemptive M/G/1 queueing model of a spectrum handoff scheme for cognitive wireless networks is proposed. Because spectrum handoff gives secondary users an opportunity to carry on their transmissions, it is crucially important to determine the actions of primary users. In our queueing model, prioritized data traffic is utilized to meet the requirements of the secondary users. These users’ packets are categorized into three different priority classes: urgent, real-time, and non-real time. Urgent data packets have the highest priority, while non-real time data packets have the lowest priority. Riverbed (OPNET) Modeler simulation software was used to simulate both reactive and proactive decision spectrum handoff schemes. The simulation results were consistent with the analytical results obtained under different load and traffic conditions. This study also revealed that the cumulative number of handoffs can be drastically decreased by exploiting priority classes and utilizing a decent spectrum handoff strategy, such as a reactive or proactive decision-based strategy.

        Muhammed Yusuf ?a?lar,Veli G?k,Oktay Tomar,G?khan Akarca 한국축산식품학회 2018 한국축산식품학회지 Vol.38 No.3

This study investigated the effect of yellow, black, and brown mustard seeds on color, lipid oxidation (thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances [TBARS]), and microbiological and sensory qualities of meatballs during storage. Heat treatment of mustard seeds affected the TBARS value of meatball samples (p<0.0001). The addition of mustard seeds decreased TBARS value of meatball samples (p<0.0001). Heat treatment of mustard seeds decreased the L*, a* and b* values of meatball samples (p<0.0001). The meatball samples with mustard seeds increased b* value of meatball samples however it decreased a* value of meatball samples (p<0.0001). The addition of mustard seeds decreased aerobic mesophilic bacteria count (p<0.0001), Enterobacteriaceae count (p<0.0001), psychrophilic bacteria count (p<0.0001) and yeast and mold count of meatball samples (p<0.0001). On a given storage day, the yellow mustard added meatballs sample was given higher color, appearance, flavor, acceptability ratings than those added black and brown mustard. Regarding sensory and microbiological properties, mustard seed contributed to microbiological quality and sensorial properties of meatball samples.

Evaluation of the Safety and Efficacy of a Multienzyme Complex in Patients with Functional Dyspepsia: A Randomized, Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study

        Muhammed Majeed,Shaheen Majeed,Kalyanam Nagabhushanam,Sivakumar Arumugam,Anurag Pande,Mahesh Paschapur,Furqan Ali 한국식품영양과학회 2018 Journal of medicinal food Vol.21 No.11

Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a highly prevalent disorder having nonspecific symptoms and varied pathophysiology. Its treatment remains a challenge as therapeutic options are limited, unsatisfactory, and elusive. Thus, safety and efficacy of DigeZyme®, a proprietary multienzyme complex (MEC), was evaluated as a dietary supplement in FD patients. In this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study, 40 patients were randomly assigned (1:1 ratio) to receive either MEC (50 mg, TID; n = 20) or placebo (n = 20) for 60 days. Reports of adverse or serious adverse events (AEs), abnormal results of vital signs, abnormal findings during physical examination, and abnormal laboratory investigations were monitored closely. Efficacy measures were change in Short-Form Leeds Dyspepsia Questionnaire (SF-LDQ), Nepean Dyspepsia Index-Short Form (NDI-SF), Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Clinical Global Impression Severity Rating Scale (CGI-S), and Glasgow Dyspepsia Severity Score (GDSS) at baseline and follow-up visits on day 15, 30, and 60. Supplementation with MEC was associated with statistically significant differences (P value ranging from .0401 to .0033) in all efficacy parameters compared with placebo. The between-group comparison also revealed that MEC supplement had a significantly greater effect (P < .001) versus placebo. No investigation product-related AEs were reported. There were no clinically significant abnormalities in physical findings and no statistically significant changes in biochemical and hematological parameters, vital signs, body weight, and body mass index observed between the two groups at baseline and follow-up visits. MEC supplementation represents an effective and safe alternative to manage dyspepsia symptoms in FD patients.
