A simple, sensitive, and accurate spectrofluorimetric method was developed for the determination of citalopram in bulk and pharmaceutical preparations. The method is based on the enhancement of the weak fluorescence signal (FL) of the Tb (III)-citalopram system in the presence of silver nanoparticles. Fluorescence intensities were measured at 555 nm after excitation at 281 nm. Prepared silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were characterized by UV-Visible spectra and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Various factors affecting the formation of citalopram-Tb (III)-AgNPs complexes were studied and optimized. The fluorescence intensity versus concentration plot was linear over the range 0.02-14 μg mL(-1), with an excellent correlation coefficient of 0.9978. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were found to be 7.15 10(-6) μg mL(-1) and 2.38 10(-5) μg mL(-1) respectively. The proposed method was found to have good reproducibility with a relative standard deviation of 3.66% (n = 6). The interference effects of common excipients found in pharmaceutical preparations were studied. The developed method was validated statistically by performing recoveries studies and successfully applied for the assay of citalopram in bulk powder and pharmaceutical preparations. Percent recoveries were found to range from 98.98% to 100.97% for bulk powder and from 96.57% to 101.77% for pharmaceutical preparations.

Vibrational analysis in microtubules is examined based on the nonlocal theory of elasticity. The complete analytical formulas for wave velocity are obtained and the results reveal that the small scale effects can reduce the frequency, especially for large longitudinal wave-vector and large circumferential wave number. It is seen that the small scale effects are more significant for smaller wave length. The methods and results may also support the design and application of nano devices such as micro sound generator etc. The effects of small scale parameters can increase vibrational frequencies of the protein microtubules and cannot be overlooked in the analysis of vibrating phenomena. The results for different modes with nonlocal effect are checked.

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality amongst the gynecological cancers worldwide, especially in developing countries. There are few to no initial symptoms and signs. This study was conducted to assess the awareness level of young Pakistani women about cervical cancer and to educate them about this deadly disease. A detailed questionnaire regarding demographic data and information about cervical cancer was distributed in different cities of Punjab. A total of 873 women took part in this survey and 70.1 percent were totally unaware of this cancer. Only 8.5% of the whole surveyed population knew accurately about cancer of cervix, 7% of the surveyed respondents correctly specified the human papilloma virus as the causative agent. Only 5.2% respondents were able to identify the Pap smear test as a diagnostic measure. Out of all the surveyed population only 4.3% of individuals were found to be vaccinated against this disease and the majority was found from the medical profession. Medical professionals, students, working women, housewives and uneducated individuals took active part in this survey. This study demonstrates a low level of awareness among Pakistani women and a need for an active campaign by media and government to increase understanding as well as introducing measures for improved prevention and treatment of cervical cancer.

The Sinjhoro concession is prolific gas-producing block situated on the eastern limb of the Lower Indus Basin in Pakistan. It contains several development and production (D & P) leases, which are producing gas from Cretaceous rocks. The present study aimed to evaluate the structural and petrophysical properties of the Lower Goru Formation using a 2D seismic and well-driven integrated study. A seismic driven time structure map of the Lower Goru Formation was generated, which depicted horst and graben structures oriented predominantly in a NNW-SSE direction. These normal faults are deep seated and potentially provide a vertical primary migration pathway to hydrocarbon flow. A prospective lead of 20 ms was identified in the northwestern portion of the structural map, which could be explored further. Besides this, a RMS amplitude map was generated within the target reservoir level to show the general sand body distribution within the reservoir. Our study revealed that the reservoir quality sands are deposited in the eastern portion of the study area. The identified lead is also located on a fair to good level of sand body which is producing from the well drilled to the south of the prospective area. Additionally, it is strongly recommended to conduct an infill seismic survey over and around the newly identified prospect in order to validate its existence and aerial outspreads. Well correlation, petrophysical data logs (PDLs) and cross-plot techniques were adopted to predict the petrophysical properties of the reservoir level. During the petrophysical study, two prospective zone were identified, with Zone-II showing more promising results for hydrocarbon presence than Zone-I. The present research has shown that integration of seismic attributes with petrophysical calculations can help to identify new prospective leads even in cases where there is less seismic data coverage.

Cytoskeleton components in living cell bear large compressive force and are responsible in maintaining the cell shape. Actually these filaments are surrounded by viscoelastic media within the cell. This surrounding, viscoelastic media affects the buckling behavior of these filaments when external force is applied on these filaments by exerting continuous pressure in opposite directions to the incipient buckling of the filaments. In this article a mechanical model is applied to account the effects of this media on the buckling behavior of intermediate filaments network of cytoskeleton. The model immeasurably associates; filament’s bending rigidity, adjacent system elasticity, and cytosol viscosity with buckling wavelength, buckling growth rate and buckling amplitude of the filaments.

Objective: Hyperketonemia remains a major metabolic issue of serious milk production and a major health concern in early lactation cows. Oral supplementation of glucose precursors (GP) can be used to prevent hyperketonemia in dairy cows. The objective of this study was to compare the beneficial effects of orally supplementing a mixture of GP on metabolic health indicators and milk production status of primiparous (PP) and multiparous (MP) dairy cows. Methods: Twenty-eight Holstein cows were blocked by expected date of parturition, previous lactation yield, and parity. The cows were randomly allocated to one of the four treatment groups (n = 7 cows/group) based on their parity and GP supplementation: i) PP cows fed basal diet only (PP-CON), ii) PP cows with oral supplementation of GP (PP-GP), iii) MP cows fed basal diet only (MP-CON), and iv) MP cows with oral supplementation of GP (MP-GP). Glucose precursor (glycoline liquid) was orally drenched (300 mL/d) in GP cows from 7 days prepartum through 7 days postpartum. Other than GP supplementation, all cows were fed similar pre- and postpartum basal diets. Results: In both pre- and postpartum periods, serum glucose concentration was increased, whereas β-hydroxybutyrate and free fatty acids were decreased in GP cows compared with the CON cows. Milk yield and milk components were statistically not different between GP and CON cows over the first 9 week of lactation. The yield of actual milk, energycorrected milk, 63-days cumulative milk, colostrum yield, and calf birth weight remained higher in MP cows compared with PP cows. Conclusion: Oral drenching of GP around calving can be recommended to successfully improve the metabolic health and reduce the negative effects of hyperketonemia not only in MP but also in PP dairy cows.

Microtubules buckle under bending and torsion and this property has been studied for free microtubules before using orthotropic elastic shell model. But as microtubules are embedded in other elastic filaments and it is experimentally showed that these elastic filaments affect the critical buckling moment and critical buckling torque of the microtubules. To prove that, we developed orthotropic Winkler like model and demonstrated that the critical buckling moment and critical buckling torque of the microtubules are orders of higher magnitude than those found for free microtubules. Our results show that Critical buckling moment is about 6.04 nNnm for which the corresponding curvature is about θ = 1.33 rad /㎛ for embedded MTs, and critical buckling torque is 0.9 nNnm for the angle of 1.33 rad/㎛. Our results well proved the experimental findings.
