        Assessment of Air Temperature Trends in the Source Region of Yellow River and Its Sub-Basins, China

        Changes in climatic variables at the sub-basins scale (having different features of land cover) are crucial for planning, development and designing of water resources infrastructure in the context of climate change. Accordingly, to explore the features of climate changes in sub-basins of the Source Region of Yellow River (SRYR), absolute changes and trends of temperature variables, maximum temperature (Tmax), minimum temperature (Tmin), mean temperature (Tavg) and diurnal temperature range (DTR), were analyzed annually and seasonally by using daily observed air temperature dataset from 1965 to 2014. Results showed that annual Tmax, Tmin and Tavg for the SRYR were experiencing warming trends respectively at the rate of 0.28, 0.36 and 0.31oC (10 yr)−1. In comparison with the 1st period (1965-1989), more absolute changes and trends towards increasing were observed during the 2nd period (1990-2014). Apart from Tangnaihai (a low altitude sub-basin), these increasing trends and changes seemed more significant in other basins with highest magnitude during winter. Among sub-basins the increasing trends were more dominant in Huangheyan compared to other sub-basins. The largest increase magnitude of Tmin, 1.24 and 1.18oC (10 yr)−1, occurred in high altitude sub-basins Jimai and Huangheyan, respectively, while the smallest increase magnitude of 0.23oC (10 yr)−1 occurred in a low altitude sub-basin Tangnaihai. The high elevation difference in Tangnaihai probably was the main reason for the less increase in the magnitude of Tmin. In the last decade, smaller magnitude of trend for all temperature variables signified the signal of cooling in the region. Overall, changes of temperature variables had significant spatial and seasonal variations. It implies that seasonal variations of runoff might be greater or different for each sub-basin.

        Characterization of post-flooding recovery-responsive enzymes in soybean root and hypocotyl

        Soybean exhibits markedly reduced growth and yields under flooding stress. To determine the functional roles of four soybean proteins in post-flooding recovery, the organ/stress specificity and time-dependency of their enzymatic activities were analyzed. Peroxidase activity decreased in root and hypocotyl exposed to flooding and cold stresses, but increased during the post-stress recovery period. In contrast, its activity increased in both root and hypocotyl under drought stress. Acid phosphatase activity was suppressed in root treated with flooding and cold stresses, and slightly increased during the recovery period; however, the opposite profile was observed in hypocotyl. In response to drought stress, it did not change in root, but was decreased in hypocotyl. Beta-ketoacyl reductase activity did not change in root under flooding conditions, but was decreased in hypocotyl, although the activity increased slightly during the recovery period. In addition, it was decreased in both organs under drought and cold stresses, but again increased during the recovery period. Nucleotidylyl transferase activity was increased in root under flooding and drought stresses, but was decreased in hypocotyl. It was decreased in response to cold stress, but exhibited a slight increase during the recovery period. Furthermore, the treatment with jasmonate and salicylate suppressed the activities of peroxidase and acid phosphatase in root and hypocotyl under flooding stress; however, the activity of acid phosphatase increased during the recovery period. Nucleotidylyl transferase activity in root was also elevated by treatment with jasmonate, but gradually decreased during the recovery period. These results suggest that jasmonate-induced changes in nucleotidylyl transferase activity may facilitate soybean root recovery after flooding stress.

      • Settlement of velocity dissemination with fluid parameters for the configuration of stretching cylinder

        This investigation in fluid mechanics surrounds around the variety of flow problems for different fluids along the stretching cylinder. Numerical procedure is carried out for the obtained resultant equations by Keller-Box technique. Numerical study of laminar, steady, viscous and incompressible two dimensional boundary layer flow of effects of suction and blowing on boundary layer slip flow of Casson fluid along permeable exponentially stretching cylinder has been carried out in the present draft. physical parameters i.e., Nusselt number and skin friction coefficient, suction parameter and the local Reynold number are investigated on velocity profile and elaborated through proper graphs and table.

      • Pharmacovigilance Studies of Oral Salbutamol in Chronic Asthmatic Patients in Different Clinical Setups of Hyderabad, Sindh, Pakistan

        Purpose Post marketing study is an ongoing process. In developed countries, it is one of most neglected phase of clinical trial. The current study was specially designed to assess the adverse drug reaction (ADRs) of Oral Salbutamol in chronic asthmatic patients at different clinical setups of Hyderabad, Pakistan. Methodology A cross-sectional study was conducted among 254 chronic asthmatic patients via purposive sampling method. The sample size was calculated on the basis of 5% of prevalence rate. Only those patients were enrolled who are on oral salbutamol (2 and 4mg Tablets). The confidence interval was 95%. The patients were enrolled from 10 different private clinical setups of Hyderabad, Pakistan. The data were analyzed using WHO assessment scale. Results Out of 254 patients, first group i.e. 154 patients were taken 2mg tablets and second group i.e.100 patients were on 4mg. Maximum ADRs were reported from second group i.e. 32 patients had developed various adverse reactions from minor to moderate. While 21 patients from first group had different adverse drug reactions. The most common ADRs were headache as minor ADR while tachycardia and arrhythmias were also reported as moderate ADRs. Mostly ADRs were reported in female as compared to male gender. The p value is less than 0.05. Based on WHO assessment scale, mostly ADRs were categorized in probable scale. Conclusion The Results revealed that on 4mg Salbutamol maximum number of ADRs were reported. There should be more focus to describe the underlying causes. Proper training will be utmost importance on reporting and dosing guidelines.

        Parametric optimization in wire electric discharge machining of DC53 steel using gamma phase coated wire

        DC53 is considered as superior steel grade by die and mold making industries as compared to D2 and D3 steel due to its excellent mechanical characteristics like high hardness, wear resistance and strength. DC53 steel finds applications in making stamping dies, punches and cutting tools. In wire electric discharge machining (WEDM) process, gamma phase coated wire offers superior machining performance over uncoated brass and zinc coated electrode wires. This work was performed to study the effect of machining variables like sparks on duration, sparks off duration, arc-on time, and servo voltage on response variables, namely kerf width (KW), cutting speed (CS), material removal rate (MRR), and surface roughness (R a ) for WEDM of DC53 steel. Taguchi L18 orthogonal array was used for experimental design. Analysis of variance showed that sparks on duration is the most significant factor affecting KW, CS, and MRR with percentage contribution of 48.25 %, 80.21 %, and 45.21 %, respectively. Optimal set of machining parameters resulted in 14.02 % improvement in MRR and 19.24 % reduction in workpiece surface roughness. Moreover, gamma phase coated wire was found to have 30-35 % faster cutting rate as compared to uncoated brass wire.

      • Right-Sided and Left-Sided Colon Cancers are Two Distinct Disease Entities: an Analysis of 200 Cases in Pakistan

        Background: There is growing evidence that there are differences in histological and genetic characteristics along with clinical behavior between right- and left-sided colon carcinomas. We have compared various parameters of the two types and assessed associations of the results with prognosis in patients in Pakistan. Materials and Methods: We reviewed 200 cases from our institutional database; 100 cases of right-sided and 100 cases of left-sided colon cancer. Parameters including age, gender, TNM stage, histological features and clinical outcome were analyzed. Results: The patients with right-sided colon cancer were significantly older as compared to their counterparts with left-sided cancer. They presented with a lumbar mass rather than symptoms of obstruction and perforation as seen in left-sided colon cancers, and the histology showed higher percentage of poorly differentiated tumors with advanced pT stage. Moreover, Crohn's-like reactions, intra tumoral lymphocyte responses and other poor prognostic factors like lymph vascular invasion and perineural invasion were more common in right-sided cancers. Conclusions: We found that right- and left-sided colon cancers are different from each other in terms of clinical presentation, histology and clinical behavior. Right-sided colon cancers are more aggressive and are associated with poorer clinical outcome as compared to left sided colon cancers in our population.

        Analyzing the Impact of Social Distancing on the Stoning Ritual of the Islamic Pilgrimage

        The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a profound impact on large-scale gatherings throughout the world. Social distancing has become one of the most common measures to restrict the spread of the novel Coronavirus. Islamic pilgrimage attracts millions of pilgrims to Saudi Arabia annually. One of the mandatory rituals of pilgrimage is the symbolic stoning of the devil. Every pilgrim is required to perform this ritual within a specified time on three days of pilgrimage. This ritual is prone to congestion due to strict spatiotemporal requirements. We propose a pedestrian simulation model for implementing social distancing in the stoning ritual. An agent-based simulation is designed to analyze the impact of inter-queue and intra-queue spacing between adjacent pilgrims on the throughput and congestion during the stoning ritual. After analyzing several combinations of intra-queue and inter-queue spacings, we conclude that 25 queues with 1.5 meters of intra-queue spacing result in an optimal combination of throughput and congestion. The Ministry of Hajj in Saudi Arabia may benefit from these findings to manage and plan pilgrimage more effectively.

        Coal and Natural gas are two biggest contributors to a generation of energy throughout the world. Most of these resources create environmental pollution while making energy affecting the natural habitat. Many approaches have been proposed as alternatives to these sources. One of the leading alternatives is Solar Energy which is usually harnessed using solar farms. In artificial intelligence, the most researched area in recent times is machine learning. With machine learning, many tasks which were previously thought to be only humanly doable are done by machine. Neural networks have two major subtypes i.e. Convolutional neural networks (CNN) which are used primarily for classification and Recurrent neural networks which are utilized for time-series predictions. In this paper, we predict energy generated by solar fields and optimal angles for solar panels in these farms for the upcoming seven days using environmental and historical data. We experiment with multiple configurations of RNN using Vanilla and LSTM (Long Short-Term Memory) RNN. We are able to achieve RSME of 0.20739 using LSTMs.

        Role of Self-Theories in English as a Foreign Language: A Comparison between Korean and Pakistani Students

        본 연구의 목적은 외국어로서의 영어교육(EFL) 학습자가 가지고 있는 자기이론과 학업성취도 간의 관계를 한국과 파키스탄 학생 간의 비교를 중심으로 살펴보는 데 있다. 자기이론이란 자신의 능력을 생득적으로 타고난 고정된 것으로 인식하거나 자신의 능력은 노력에 의해서 얼마든지 변화할 수 있는 것으로 믿는 학습자의 신념을 의미한다. 본 연구에서는 한국 및 파키스탄 대학생들을 대상으로 지능에 대한 자기이론과 영어에 대한 자기이론을 자기보고 방식과 비네트(Vignette) 방식으로 측정하였으며 자기이론이 학생들이 보고한 일반적 학업성취도와 영어 학업성취도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 두 국가 대학생들의 자기이론을 비교한 결과, 지능 및 영어능력에 대한 자기이론에서 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 두 국가 대학생들의 자료를 통합하여 분석한 결과, 지능 및 영어에 대한 자기이론이 학생들의 일반적 학업성취도와 영어 학업성취도를 통계적으로 유의미하게 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 주로 지능과 관련하여 연구된 자기이론을 외국어로서의 영어 학습 상황까지 확장하였다. 특히, 본 연구는 한국과 파키스탄 대학생들을 비교함으로써 문화권과 상관없이 자기이론이 외국어학습에 중요한 역할을 담당함을 시사한다. Self-theories regarding general intelligence and English ability were measured from two countries (Korea and Pakistan) and their relationships with self-reported overall academic achievement and English language achievement were examined. No significant mean differences between the two countries were found regarding college students’ self-theories. There were significant mean differences in overall academic achievement and English achievement between the two countries. Both the overall academic achievement and English achievement were significantly correlated with various self-theories while taking both samples together. Achievement measures were predicted by self-theories of general intelligence and English language ability. The current study highlighted the relationship between self-theories about general intelligence and English language ability and their relationship with self-reported achievement in two cultural contexts. This research also introduced new instruments to measure self-theories that can be used in studying self-theories in different domains.

      • Flow of casson nanofluid along permeable exponentially stretching cylinder: Variation of mass concentration profile

        The Runge-Kutta method of 6th-order has been employed in this paper to analyze the flow of Casson nanofluid along permeable exponentially stretching cylinder. The modeled PDEs are changed into nonlinear ODEs through appropriate nonlinear transformations. The aim of the paper is to investigate the effects of different parameters such as Casson fluid parameter, slip parameter, suction parameter, Prandtl number, Lewis number, Brownian motion parameter, and thermophoresis parameter, with the variation of mass concentration profile. Numerical results are attained using a renowned numerical scheme shooting technique and for the authenticity of present methodlogy, the results are verified with earlier open text.
