Non-periodic Riemann examples with handles
Morabito, Filippo,Traizet, Martin Elsevier 2012 Advances in mathematics Vol.229 No.1
<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We show the existence of 1-parameter families of non-periodic, complete, embedded minimal surfaces in Euclidean space with infinitely many parallel planar ends. In particular we are able to produce finite genus examples and quasi-periodic examples of infinite genus.</P>
How Did Maritime Piracy Affect Trade in Southeast Asia?
Giacomo Morabito,Bruno S. Sergi 동아시아연구원 2018 Journal of East Asian Studies Vol.18 No.2
Over the past 30 years, Southeast Asia has experienced rapid growth in intra-regional economic activity, but despite the remarkable diminution in the frequency and intensity of military conflict and crises, it has not been free of interstate disputes, such as maritime disputes. However, the struggle against maritime crime activities such as maritime piracy is a priority for all countries of the region, as well as one of the unavoidable prerequisites for the achievement of the regional economic security. This research note focuses on the impact of maritime piracy on the Southeast Asian countries’ trade. Bilateral trade flows among the Southeast Asian countries over the 1994 to 2013 period are used to estimate an augmented gravity model that includes various measures of maritime crime activities. The purpose is to find the evidence to indicate how maritime piracy has affected the volume of intra-regional trade.
Bounded and unbounded capillary surfaces derived from the catenoid
American Institute of Mathematical Sciences 2018 Discrete and continuous dynamical systems Vol.38 No.2
<P>We construct two kinds of capillary surfaces by using a perturbation method. Surfaces of fi rst kind are embedded in a solid ball B of R-3 with assigned mean curvature function and whose boundary curves lie on partial derivative B : The contact angle along such curves is a non-constant function. Surfaces of second kind are unbounded and embedded in R-3 \ (B) over tilde; (B) over tilde being a deformation of a solid ball in R-3 : These surfaces have assigned mean curvature function and one boundary curve on partial derivative(B) over tilde : Also in this case the contact angle along the boundary is a non-constant function.</P>

<P>Omega(R) being a smooth bounded domain diffeomorphic to the expanding domain A(R): = {x is an element of M, R < r(x) < R + 1} in a Riemannian manifold M of dimension n >= 2 endowed with the metric g = dr(2) + S-2(r)g(S)(n-1). After recalling a result about existence, uniqueness, and non-degeneracy of the positive radial solution when Omega(R) = A(R), we prove that there exists a positive non-radial solution to the aforementioned problem on the domain Omega(R). Such a solution is close to the radial solution to the corresponding problem on A(R).</P>

Free boundaries surfaces and Saddle towers minimal surfaces in S2xR
Academic Press 2016 Journal of mathematical analysis and applications Vol.443 No.1
<P>The aim of this work is to show that for each finite natural number l >= 2 there exists a 1-parameter family of Saddle Tower type minimal surfaces embedded in S-2 x R, invariant with respect to a vertical translation. The genus of the quotient surface is 2l - 1. The proof is based on analytical techniques: precisely we desingularize of the union of gamma(j) x R, j is an element of {1, ... ,2l}, where gamma(j) subset of S-2 denotes a half great circle. These vertical cylinders intersect along a vertical straight line and its antipodal line. As byproduct of the construction we produce free boundary surfaces embedded in (S-2)(+) x R. Such surfaces are extended by reflection in partial derivative(S-2)(+) x R in order to get the minimal surfaces with the desired properties. (c) 2016 Published by Elsevier Inc.</P>
