Experimental response function of a phtoelectron spectrometer
Moonsup Han,Hye-Yeong Shin,S.-J. Oh 한국진공학회(ASCT) 1999 Journal of Korean Vacuum Science & Technology Vol.3 No.2
We developed the experimental response function (ERF) which can be used for the numerical curve fitting analysis in photoelectron spectroscopy (PES). We selected the core-levels of Ag 3d_(5/2) and Au 4f_(7/2) to obtain the ERF because the parameters characterizing the intrinsic line-shape have been known well. Relying on the numerical fourier transformation we deconvoluted the ERF from the measured core-level spectra. For the numerical fourier transformation we applied the fast transform (FFT) algorithm. We considered optimal (Wiener) filtering with the FFT due to noise and used Hann window function to remedy the information leakage in frequency domain due to discrete and finite sampling of measurement. The comparison of the curve fitting results using the ERF obtained in this work and the mathematical response function with a gaussian in the conventional approach shows clearly the improvement of the curve fitting analysis.

We discovered the oldest rock in South Korea, and dated this migmatite using a Sensitive High-Resolution Ion Microprobe (SHRIMP). Zircon grains from a tonalitic migmatite, Daeijak Island, western Gyeonggi massif, are distinctly zoned and commonly characterized by oscillatory-zoned cores and structureless rims. The U–Pb zircon ages estimated from six spot analyses of the rims in five grains define a concordant age group with the weighted mean 207Pb/206Pb age of 2508 ± 18 Ma, interpreted as the age of migmatization. On the other hand, the cores yield an older 207Pb/206Pb age of ca. 2.58 Ga, interpreted as the crystallization age of tonalitic protolith. These results demonstrate not only the presence of Neoarchean granitoids but also high-grade migmatitic metamorphism at ca. 2.51 Ga in the Gyeonggi massif, which are correlative with those reported from the North China craton. Formation and stability of a ruthenium - oxide thin film made of the O₂/ Ar gas - mixture sputtering

To obtain high remnant polarization and good crystalinity of ferroelectric thin films in non-volatile memory devices, the high temperature treatment in oxygen ambient is inevitable. Severe problems that occur in this process are oxygen diffusion into substrate, oxidation of electrode and buffer layer, degradation of microstructure and so on. We made ruthenium dioxide thin film by reactive sputtering with oxygen and argon mixture atmosphere. Comparing quantitatively the core-level spectra of Ru and RuO₂ obtained by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), we found that chemical state of RuO₂ is very stable and of good resistance to oxygen diffusion and oxidation of adjacent layers. It opens the use of RuO₂ thin film as a multifunctional layer of good conducting electrode and resistive barrier for the diffusion and the oxidation. We also suggest a correct understanding of Ru 3d core-level spectrum for RuO₂ based on the scheme of final state screening and charge transfer satellites.
