Lipomas are benign mesenchymal tumors that develop in areas of abundant adipose tissue. Due to the fatty composition of the breast, difficulties in diagnosis, treatment, and reconstruction are often encountered. We report a case of a 55-year-old female with a giant tumor of the right breast that comprised most of its mass, causing breast asymmetry. A thorough preoperative evaluation, followed by an uneventful difficult surgical resection and reconstruction, resulted in diagnosis of a benign lipoma. The case prompted this report because of its challenging size, location, diagnosis, and reconstructive solution.

In the present study, we evaluated new sources of plant proteases from fruits of Bromelia karatas (BK) and Bromelia pinguin (BP) to obtain antioxidant hydrolyzates/bioactive peptides (BPs) derived from chicken by-products (CH) and fish by-products (FH). The profile of the peptides was identified by reverse-phase high-resolution liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) and the size weight distribution by molecular exclusion chromatography (SEC). The hydrolysates obtained with BK in both sources of by-products showed greater antioxidant capacity compared to those obtained with BP, presenting similar or higher values when compared to a commercial plant enzyme. The use of new sources of plant proteases allowed to obtain hydrolysates of hydrophilic character with a high percentage (> 50%) of peptides with molecular weights < 17.5 kDa from chicken and fish by-products. Therefore, based on the results obtained in antioxidant capacity it is possible to consider the hydrolysates as potential ingredients, food additives, and pharmaceutical products.
In Vitro Diagnostic Testing for Antibiotic Allergy
Inmaculada Doña,Maria J. Torres,Maria I. Montañez,Tahía D. Fernández 대한천식알레르기학회 2017 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.9 No.4
Allergy to antibiotics is an important worldwide problem, with an estimated prevalence of up to 10% of the population. Reaction patterns for different antibiotics have changed in accordance with consumption trends. Most of the allergic reactions to antibiotics have been reported for betalactams, followed by quinolones and macrolides and, to a lesser extent, to others, such as metronidazole clindamycin and sulfonamides. The diagnostic procedure includes a detailed clinical history, which is not always possible and can be unreliable. This is usually followed by in vivo, skin, and drug provocation tests. These are not recommended for severe, potentially lifethreaten reactions or for drugs that are known to produce a high rate of false positive results. Given the limitations of in vivo tests, in vitro test can be helpful for diagnosis, despite having suboptimal sensitivity. The most highly employed techniques for diagnosing immediate reactions to antibiotics are immunoassays and basophil activation tests, while lymphocyte transformation tests are more commonly used to diagnose non-immediate reactions. In this review, we describe different in vitro techniques employed to diagnose antibiotic allergy.
Stability Analysis of a Family of Continuous State Feedback Synthesis: Theory and Experiments
Raúl Santiesteban-Cos,Araceli Gárate-García,Oscar Montaño-Godinez 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2017 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.15 No.3
A family of continuous state feedback synthesis based on sliding mode control is analyzed using aLyapunov approach, such that the compensation of growing perturbations together with state variables is shown. Robustness properties of a family of controllers, varying from the well known twisting sliding mode control law tothe PD controller, are studied. A non-smooth Lyapunov function is proposed such that global finite-time stabilityof the origin is demonstrated and tuning rules for the control gains are obtained. Moreover, since the Lyapunovfunction is strict, an upper bound for the convergence time of the closed loop system can be estimated, in spite ofthe growing perturbations with respect to the state. To illustrate the performance and robustness properties of thefeedback synthesis, experimental results are presented, using a one-link pendulum as a test bed.

Background: The Gasserian ganglion is a well-known target for facial pain management, and patients with cancer present an anatomical challenge owing to tumor progression or treatment itself. Computed tomography (CT) is an alternative method for guiding these procedures. Methods: This was an observational retrospective analysis of patients with cancer-related facial pain who underwent CT-guided Gasserian ganglion interventions using local anesthetics, local anesthetics with steroids, phenol, and radiofrequency. Demographic, clinical, and procedure-related variables were collected from January 1, 2015, to December 30, 2018, at the National Cancer Institute. Data distribution was determined using the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test. A paired sample t-test (with a cut-off of P < 0.05 for statistical significance) was used for comparing outcome. Results: We observed a significant reduction in numerical rating scale (NRS) and douleur neuropathique 4 (DN4) scores from 7.6 ± 1.4 and 4.4 ± 1.4 to 3.2 ± 2.0 and 2.2 ± 1.4 points, respectively (P < 0.001). After the procedure, 70.8% of the patients were satisfied; 16.7% were very satisfied, and 12.5% were unsatisfied. No intra- or postoperative complications were observed. The most common neoplasms were head and neck tumors (83.3%).Conclusions: Our data suggest that CT guidance is an effective and safe option for managing cancer-related facial pain in patients with complex anatomy, resulting in a significant reduction in pain, high satisfaction rates, and no mechanical complications. Future research should aim to refine the role of CT guidance in multimodal pain management in this population.

Tamara Sauri,Àngel Izquierdo,LLuis Ramió-Torrentà,Àngel Sanchez-Montañez,Joaquim Bosch-Barrera,Rut Porta 대한신경과학회 2015 Journal of Clinical Neurology Vol.11 No.1
Background Paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis (PLE) is a rare syndrome characterized bymemory impairment, symptoms of hypothalamic dysfunction, and seizures. It commonly precedes the diagnosis of cancer. Small-cell lung cancer is the neoplasm that is most frequently reported as the etiology underlying PLE. Case Report This report describes a male patient who presented with neurologic symptomsconsistent with anterograde amnesia, apathy, and disorientation. MRI revealed diffuse hyperintensities located predominantly in the medial bitemporal lobes, basal ganglia, frontal lobes, andleptomeninges on fluid attenuated inversion recovery images, suggesting PLE. Study of the primary tumor revealed squamous cell carcinoma of the lung. The patient was treated with neoadjuvant chemotherapy followed by surgery and adjuvant chemoradiotherapy, which resulted in hisneurologic symptoms gradually improving. Conclusions PLE might be a rare debut of squamous cell carcinoma of the lung. Treatment ofthe primary tumor may improve the neurologic symptoms.

Calderón-Chagoya René,Vega-Murillo Vicente Eliezer,García-Ruiz Adriana,Ríos-Utrera Ángel,Martínez-Velázquez Guillermo,Montaño-Bermúdez Moisés 아세아·태평양축산학회 2023 Animal Bioscience Vol.36 No.1
Objective: The objective of this study was to perform genome (genome wide association studies [GWAS]) and chromosome (CWAS) wide association analyses to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with growth traits in registered Simmental and Simbrah cattle. Methods: The phenotypes were deregressed BLUP EBVs for birth weight, weaning weight direct, weaning weight maternal, and yearling weight. The genotyping was performed with the GGP Bovine 150k chip. After the quality control analysis, 105,129 autosomal SNP from 967 animals (473 Simmental and 494 Simbrah) were used to carry out genotype association tests. The two association analyses were performed per breed and using combined information of the two breeds. The SNP associated with growth traits were mapped to their corresponding genes at 100 kb on either side. Results: A difference in magnitude of posterior probabilities was found across breeds between genome and chromosome wide association analyses. A total of 110, 143, and 302 SNP were associated with GWAS and CWAS for growth traits in the Simmental-, Simbrahand joint -data analyses, respectively. It stands out from the enrichment analysis of the pathways for RNA polymerase (POLR2G, POLR3E) and GABAergic synapse (GABRR1, GABRR3) for Simmental cattle and p53 signaling pathway (BID, SERPINB5) for Simbrah cattle. Conclusion: Only 6,265% of the markers associated with growth traits were found using CWAS and GWAS. The associated markers using the CWAS analysis, which were not associated using the GWAS, represents information that due to the model and priors was not associated with the traits.

In this study, a polymerized polyurethane foam was formulated from tannins extracted from Pinus radiata aspolyol, and copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) at a concentration of 2 % w/w as a nucleating agent. This produced areinforced foam with better mechanical properties and fire resistance. The impact of the addition of CuO-NPs on themechanical and thermal properties of the tannin foam was also studied. The properties studied were foaming process, foamdensity, cell morphology, flammability and thermal conductivity. The results revealed that the CuO-NPs incorporated in thefoam formulation act as nucleation centers, which decrease the pore size, strengthen the cell walls, and improve mechanicalproperties. The tannin samples showed good thermal resistance performance with a limit oxygen index (LOI) higher than21 %. The results obtained were contrasted with two foams, a commercial foam (SoudaFoam) and a foam generated with thesame dissociate, but with a commercial polyol (LHT-112). The foam with NPs had an elastic modulus of 3.7 MPa and stress(max) of 1.13 MPa, which was higher than those of the foams used as controls.

Driven by the need for remote learning, the COVID-19 pandemic led to the rise of use of videoconferencing tools. Scholars began noticing an emerging phenomenon of feeling tired and exhausted during virtual meetings. This study determined the predictors of videoconference or Zoom fatigue among nursing students in a large, private, non-sectarian university in the Philippines. This cross-sectional online survey involves 597 nursing students in the Philippines using the Zoom Exhaustion and Fatigue Scale. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to examine predictors of videoconference fatigue. Results indicated that nursing students experienced high levels of videoconference fatigue. Gender, self-reported academic performance, Internet connection stability, attitude toward videoconferencing, frequency, and duration of videoconferences predicted videoconference fatigue. The regression model explained 25.3% of the variances of the videoconference fatigue. Videoconference fatigue is relatively prevalent and may be taking its toll on nursing students. Developing strategic interventions that can protect or mitigate the impact of fatigue during virtual meetings is needed.

Guzmán Luis Felipe,Martínez-Velázquez Guillermo,Villaseñor-González Fernando,Vega-Murillo Vicente Eliezer,Palacios-Fránquez José Antonio,Ríos-Utrera Ángel,Montaño-Bermúdez Moisés 아세아·태평양축산학회 2023 Animal Bioscience Vol.36 No.5
Objective: In tropical, subtropical and arid zones, heat stress is the main cause of productivity reduction in cattle. When climate stressors occur, animals become thermal adapted through differential expression of some genes, including heat shock proteins (HSP) family. The aim of this study was to determine levels of expression of HSP60, HSP70, and HSP90 genes in Simmental cattle raised in tropical environments of Mexico. Methods: In this study, expression of HSP60, HSP70, and HSP90 genes was analyzed in 116 Simmental cattle from three farms with tropical climate located in western Mexico. Animals were sampled twice a day, in the morning and noon. Gene expression was evaluated by quantitative polymerase chain reaction using probes marked with fluorescence. The MIXED procedure of SAS with repeated measures was used for all statistical analysis. Results: HSP60 gene expression differences were found for sex (p = 0.0349). HSP70 gene differences were detected for sampling hour (p = 0.0042), farm (p<0.0001), sex (p = 0.0476), and the interaction sampling hour×farm (p = 0.0002). Gene expression differences for HSP90 were observed for farm (p<0.0001) and year (p = 0.0521). HSP70 gene showed to be a better marker of heat stress than HSP60 and HSP90 genes. Conclusion: Expression of HSP70 gene in Simmental herds of the tropical region of western México was different during early morning and noon, but the expression of the HSP60 and HSP90 genes was similar. Identification of resilient animals to heat stress will be useful in the genetic improvement of the Simmental breed.
