Plastic hinge characteristics of RC rectangular columns with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP)
B. Mohebi,S.M. Hosseinifard,M. Bastami 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2016 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.18 No.4
This study is based on extending the previous research work entitled Fiber reinforced polymers (FRP) confined columns that published by the authors. The modeling characteristics for plastic hinges of RC columns have been determined in FEMA 356. However, for evaluating a retrofitted member, there are no parameters for one. This issue is an important deficiency of the mentioned code. The main purpose of this study is to introduce the plastic hinge parameters for the RC rectangular columns that are retrofitted by FRP. These characteristics of plastic hinges can be used in a nonlinear static analysis, instead of nonlinear dynamic one. In order to analytical simulation of RC column behavior and also accuracy of acquired results, at first using LS-DYNA software including 3D nonlinear finite element modeling, a RC column studied in the literature has been verified. The obtained results are showed a good match between both Finite element model and experimental test and there are reasonable correlations between ones. Moreover in the next stage, in order to evaluate the robustness of the proposed method 20 reinforced concrete columns which supposed to be fixed at one end, have been retrofitted using FRP in the plastic hinge zone. The columns have been simulated under a constant compressive load and lateral cyclic displacement that the hysteresis curves have been drawn for obtaining the plastic hinge parameters. Numerical results demonstrate that the plastic hinge parameters have averagely been increased after retrofitting with a thickness of CFRP about 0.165 mm.

The aim of the present study is to investigate the eminent psychological characteristics of successful and unsuccessful elite Iranian Taekwondo athletes. The population of this study included all Taekwondo athletes who participated in Iranian Championship competitions, from which 60 male athletes (30 successful, 30 unsuccessful) were selected randomly. Two groups completed a battery of psychological tests that included measures of sport orientation, sport mental toughness, Rosenberg`s self-esteem scale, sport competitive anxiety traits, and multidimensional perfectionism. After determining descriptive statistics indexes, data were analyzed by a one-way variance test. The results revealed that successful athletes scored significantly higher on mental toughness dimensions (confidence, consistency, and control). Generally, the results showed the importance of specific psychological characteristics in distinctive successful and unsuccessful Taekwondo athletes; therefore, psychologists and coaches need to consider developing mental toughness among athletes at higher competitive levels in order to achieve success.

In this paper, post-earthquake fi re modeling was studied in steel structures with diff erent levels of ground motion intensity. Three-story structure modeling was implemented under post-earthquake fi re by using the OpenSees software. The performance of the structure was investigated under diff erent levels of ground motion intensity to the level of life safety. The structure was subjected to seismic and thermal analysis by applying standard fi re load up to 880 s of fi re. The 9-point thermal gradient for beam and column profi les under heat was analyzed by heat transfer analysis in the software. By comparing obtained results from the seismic analysis and post-earthquake fi re analysis, it can be seen that for diff erent levels of ground motion intensity, the behavior of the structure is diff erent when it is exposed to post-earthquake fi re than being exposed to the earthquake alone, which can aff ect the performance-based design of the structure. Therefore, in the design of structures, the eff ect of post-earthquake fi re should be taken into account, considering the seismic zone of the structure and the time required to extinguish the fi re.
Traditional and Modern Cell Culture in Virus Diagnosis
Ali Hematian,Nourkhoda Sadeghifard,Reza Mohebi,Morovat Taherikalani,Abbas Nasrolahi,Mansour Amraei,Sobhan Ghafourian 질병관리본부 2016 Osong Public Health and Research Persptectives Vol.7 No.2
Cell cultures are developed from tissue samples and then disaggregated by mechanical, chemical, and enzymatic methods to extract cells suitable for isolation of viruses. With the recent advances in technology, cell culture is considered a gold standard for virus isolation. This paper reviews the evolution of cell culture methods and demonstrates why cell culture is a preferred method for identification of viruses. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of both traditional and modern cell culture methods for diagnosis of each type of virus are discussed. Detection of viruses by the novel cell culture methods is considered more accurate and sensitive. However, there is a need to include some more accurate methods such as molecular methods in cell culture for precise identification of viruses.

Amir Ghasemi,Sobhan Ghafourian,Sedighe Vafaei,Reza Mohebi,Maryam Farzi,Morovat Taherikalani,Nourkhoda Sadeghifard 질병관리본부 2015 Osong Public Health and Research Persptectives Vol.6 No.6
Objectives: In an attempt α-amylase gene from Pyrococcus woesei was amplified and cloned into a pTYB2 vector to generate the recombinant plasmid pTY-α- amylase. Methods: Escherichia coli BL21 used as a host and protein expression was applied using IPTG. SDS-PAGE assay demonstrated the 100 kDa protein. Amylolytic activity of proteins produced by transformed E. coli cells was detected by zymography, and the rate of active α-amylase with and without the intein tag in both soluble conditions and as inclusion bodies solubilized by 4M urea were measured. Results: Amylolytic activity of ~185,000 U/L of bacterial culture was observed from the soluble form of the protein using this system. Conclusion: These results indicate that this expression system was appropriate for the production of thermostable α-amylase.
Easy and Quick Survey Method to Estimate Quantitative Characteristics in the Thin Forests
Mehrdad Mirzaei,Amir Eslam Bonyad,Mahboobeh Mohebi Bijarpas,Fatemeh Golmohamadi 강원대학교 산림과학연구소 2015 Journal of Forest Science Vol.31 No.2
Acquiring accurate quantitative and qualitative information is necessary for the technical and scientific management of forest stands. In this study, stratification and systematic random sampling methods were used to estimation of quantitative characteristics in study area. The estimator (((E%)2xT)) was used to compare the systematic random and stratified sampling methods. 100 percent inventory was carried out in an area of 400 hectares; characteristics as: tree density, crown cover (canopy), and basal area were measured. Tree density of stands was compared through systemic random and stratified sampling methods. Findings of the study reveal that stratified sampling method gives a better representation of estimates than systematic random sampling.

Nonlinear finite element modeling of steel-sheathed cold-formed steel shear walls
Shahin Borzoo,Seyed Rasoul Mir Ghaderi,Saeed Mohebi,Ali Rahimzadeh 국제구조공학회 2016 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.22 No.1
Cold formed steel shear panel is one of the main components to bearing lateral load in low and mid-rise cold formed steel structures. This paper uses finite element analysis to evaluate the stiffness, strength and failure mode at cold formed steel shear panels whit steel sheathing and nonlinear connections that are under monotonic loading. Two finite element models based on two experimental model whit different failure modes is constructed and verified. It includes analytical studies that investigate the effects of studs and steel sheathing thickness changes, fasteners spacing at panel edges, one or two sides steel sheathing and height-width ratio of wall on the lateral load capacity. Dominant failure modes include buckling of steel sheet, local buckling in boundary studs and sheet unzipping in the bottom half of the wall.
