        Cornelian Cherry (Cornus mas L.) Juice as a Potential Source of Biological Compounds

        Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas L.), apple (Malus domestica Borkh. cultivars Jonagold and Red Boskoop), pear (Pyrus communis cv. Conference), and plum (Prunus domestica L. cv. Common Plum) juices were assayed for their quality, organic acids, polyphenol content, and antioxidant activity (determined as a ferric-reducing antioxidant power [FRAP]). Cornelian cherry juice revealed the highest titratable acidity—2.58 g malic acid/100 g. The highest polyphenol content was also noted for Cornelian cherry—45.6 mg gallic acid (GA)/g. The medium level of polyphenols was proved for Jonagold apple (22.8 mg GA1/g). The lowest level was recorded for Common Plum (9.60 mg GA/g), followed by Conference pear and Red Boskoop apple (12.3 and 21.3 mg GA/g, respectively). The FRAP values were 1.97 mmol Fe/L for Common Plum juice, 2.37 mmol Fe/L for Conference pear juice, and 3.92 mmol Fe/L for both Red Boskoop and Jonagold apple juices. However, the obtained data indicated outstanding antioxidant properties for Cornelian cherry juice. In this case, FRAP reached 23.5 mmol Fe/L. The calculated correlation coefficient FRAP versus polyphenols indicates that the antioxidant status for Cornelian cherry is not only correlated with polyphenols but also with other biological compounds. The obtained results indicated that Cornelian cherry is a valuable source of substances with a high antioxidant activity.

        Experimental analysis of aerodynamic stability of stress-ribbon footbridges

        The dynamic properties of one-span or multi-span reinforced concrete footbridges of catenary form (see e.g., Fig. 1) include the very low fundamental natural frequency, usually near the step-frequency of pedestrians, and the low damping of bending vibrations. The paper summarized the results of model as well as full-scale measurements with particular reference to the influence of torsional rigidity of the stress-ribbon on the magnitude of aerodynamic response, the results of measurements on footbridges of catenary form being completed by results obtained on footbridges of some other types. Additionally the influence of the local broadening of the bridge deck on the bridge response was tested. Starting from these results the criterion has been derived for the decision, whether the flutter analysis is necessary for the design of the footbridge.

        Chinese Holstein Cattle Shows a Genetic Contribution from Native Asian Cattle Breeds: A Study of Shared Haplotypes and Demographic History

        The Chinese Holstein cattle breed, an introduced breed in China, has been crossbred with native cattle breeds. We hypothesised that the Chinese Holstein local population in Beijing share haplotypes with native Asian cattle breeds, the result of a sudden population expansion in the recent past. We also hypothesised that crossbreeding and population expansion left traces that shaped the genetic makeup of the breed. Evaluation of this was performed by mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence analysis of Chinese Holstein cattle from Beijing (n = 41) and a comparison of them with the published mtDNA sequences (n = 293) of 14 Asian breeds with an emphasis on Chinese native cattle breeds. Three shared common haplotypes between Chinese Holstein cattle and native Asian cattle were found. Moreover, a high level of haplotype diversity in Chinese Holstein cattle (h = 0.9557) and low nucleotide diversity (${\pi}$ = 0.0052) was found, indicating a past population bottleneck followed by rapid population growth. These findings are supported by the significantly negative deviation of Tajima's D (-1.82085), the star-like pattern of dominant haplotypes and the pairwise mismatch distribution analysis, which showed a unimodal pattern.

        Variability of Osteocalcin Status in Chinese Holstein Cattle: Do Phylogeny, Vitamin D or Gene Polymorphisms Matter?

        Osteocalcin (OC), a marker of bone turnover, displays patterns in relation to physiological and genetic factors. Here, we present an association study in a population of Chinese Holstein cattle (n = 24) with OC serum concentration as a phenotypic trait. We hypothesised that OC status is associated with phylogeny, vitamin D serum level and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) was used as an unlinked marker to examine phylogeny and linkage to measured phenotypic traits of vitamin D and OC status. Following an association study with OC serum variability as the trait, genotyping of SNPs (n = 27) in OC-related genes was performed. Candidate SNPs were chosen in genes with an emphasis on the vitamin D and vitamin K pathways. Multivariant factor analysis revealed a correlation between vitamin D serum concentration and a SNP in the gene GC (rs43338565), which encodes a vitamin D-binding protein, as well as between a SNP in NFATc1 (rs42038422) and OC concentration. However, univariate analysis revealed that population structure, vitamin D serum levels and SNPs were not significant determinants of OC status in the studied group.

        응급실 간호사의 감정노동, 전문직 자아개념, 자기 효능감, 사회적 지지가 소진에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 응급실 간호사의 소진 정도를 파악하고 감정노동, 전문직 자아개념, 자기 효능감, 사회적 지지가 응급실 간호사의 소진에 미치는 영향을 확인하기 위해 시도되었다. 서울 8개 병원 응급실 간호사 130명에게 조사하였고 수집된 자료는 SPSS Version 24.0 통계프로그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 연구 결과 응급실 간호사의 소진에 영향을 미치는 주요 요인은 전문직 자아개념(β=-.45, p<.001), 감정노동(β=.44, p<.001), 자기 효능감(β=-.14, p=.040) 순으로 나타났다. 이에 응급실 간호사의 소진 경감을 위해 감정관리 프로그램, 긍정적 자아개념 형성, 장기간 근무 할 수 있는 간호계의 정책적 방안과 사회적 지지체계구축 등의 중재 프로그램 개발 및 적용이 필요하다. Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of emotional labor, professional self-concept, self-efficiency and social support on burnout of emergency room nurses by verifying the level of burnout of them. Through this, we will reduce the turnover and secure professional manpower and they will provide basic data on efficient manpower management. Methods: The subjects of this study were 130 emergency room nurses of eight hospitals in Seoul. The collected datas were analyzed by the SPSS Version 24.0 program using the percentage, mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe test, Pearson"s correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. Results: The level of emotional labor of emergency room nurses was higher than that of other nurses. Professional self-concept, self-efficiency and social support have a negative correlation with burnout and there is a positive correlation between professional self-concept, self-efficiency and social support. The major factors influencing burnout were professional self-concept, which was a significant negative influence factor, emotional labor was a significant positive influence and self-efficiency showed a significant negative influence factor. Conclusions: To reduce the burnout of emergency room nurses, an emotional management program, positive self-concept formation for emergency room nurses are needed. In addition, it is necessary to develop and apply a variety of intervention programs to build policy for long- term working nurse and social support systems.

        El concepto de justicia en el Discurso de mivida del capitan Alonso de Contreras

        Los conceptos de igualdad y desigualdad se hallan estrechamente vinculados a los de justicia e injusticia, dado que unos, los primeros, no pueden darse sin los otros. Uno de los textos mas caracteristicos de la soldadesca aurea es la autobiografia conocida como Discurso de mi vida (1641), del capitan Alonso de Contreras, la cual relata las penalidades, infortunios, glorias y vaivenes de la vida de uno de los militares mas representativos de los Siglos de Oro. Considerada la autobiografia de soldado mejor escrita del siglo XVII y un texto de un valor historico y cultural innegable que lo ha hecho merecedor de traducciones a cinco idiomas, el Discurso de mi vida de Alonso de Contreras nos permite, a traves de la narracion de sus episodios vitales, extraer una idea muy concreta sobre el concepto de justicia y su imparticion en el marco de la vida del soldado del Barroco. Nuestro objetivo con este articulo es estudiar que concepto de justicia se desprende de la obra de Contreras, en que situaciones aparece impartida y por que actores, y cuales son las consecuencias de dicha imparticion. Veremos tambien que injusticias aparecen recogidas en este valioso testimonio de la literatura aurea sobre la realidad terrible de los militares espanoles, y que lectura o moraleja puede sacarse de ellas. Con ello pretendemos una mejor comprension de la epoca dorada de las letras hispanicas y un ahondamiento en una de las obras que, aun siendo reeditada y traducida en multiples ocasiones desde que fue descubierta en manuscrito hace poco mas de cien anos, ha sido poco tratada y menos estudiada por la critica.

        Teaching Magnetic Component Design in Power Electronics Course using Project Based Learning Approach

        This paper presents the results and gained experiences from the Project Based Learning (PBL) of magnetic component design within a Power Electronics Course. PBL was applied during the laboratory exercises through a design-project task based on a boost converter test board. The students were asked to calculate the main boost converter’"s circuit parameters’" capacitor C and inductor L, and then additionally required to design and build-up the inductor L, in order to meet the project’"s goals. The whole PBL process relied on ideas from the CDIO (Conceive, Design, Implement, Operate), where the students are encouraged to consider the whole system’"s process, in order to obtain hands-on experience. PBL is known to be a motivating and problem-centered teaching method that gives students the ability to transfer their acquired scientific knowledge into industrial practice. It has the potential to help students cope with demanding complexities in the field, and those problems they will face in their future careers.

        The thermal performance is one of the most important factors in evaluating an automotive lamp, and is not easy for engineer to improve due to the diversified lamp designs. Achieving a better thermal performance in automotive lamps requires that every component consisting of the lamp such as reflector, bezel, lens, etc maintains its shapes and colors without any deforming or fading from the heat transfer of the bulb. It has been a courtesy that its thermal performance has been verified with experiments and CFD after the design is complete. However, the shortening automobile development period and the frequent changes in design corrupt the effectiveness of the test procedure in the thermal performance. In this study, nine factors of thermal performance were chosen and evaluated their effects on thermal performance. Among them, three main factors were studied to attain thermal performance using CFD. On the completion of this study, it is expected that the thermal performance of automotive lamps can be achieved before the stage of the thermal experiment and CFD.
