Aluminum is widely used in fields that require lightweight technology, such as in the aerospace and automobile industries. The welding of aluminum alloys, however, tends to generate large deformations in the welded structures due to its large heat conductivity and thermal expansion. Therefore, this study aims to reduce welding deformations that occur in the welding process by obtaining an optimal welding sequence. The welding sequence optimization process consists of two main stages. The first involves the prediction of the welding deformation behavior by using thermo-elastic-plastic finite element analysis. The second stage optimizes the welding sequence by using a genetic algorithm (GA), which can efficiently optimize very large solution spaces considering not only the welding sequence, but also the welding direction. In addition, this study proposed an appropriate and efficient GA for the present optimization problem. The optimization results showed that the developed finite element analysis model were in good agreement with the experimental results, and the proposed optimization tool can reduce the welding deformation considerably.

This paper presents a new approach on stretch processing for a fine range estimation using MPM (Matrix Pencil Method). The conventional method utilizes FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) with limited range resolution with its fixed number of samples. Numerical simulation shows that the new method gives better performance in the accuracy of the range resolution.
Proposal and Analysis of Wavelength-Switchable Optical Fiber Filter Based on a Solc Type

This paper proposes a new polarization-independent Sagnac birefringence loop structure-based multiwavelength-periodic filter and presents measurements and analysis of its spectrum. The filter can be used in several schemes by adjusting the orientation angles of two quarter waveplates and the operating characteristics in the reflection type are analyzed including dispersion and polarization mode dispersion at each principal axis. This filter has polarization-independent spectra but a polarization-dependent dispersion, consequently polarization mode dispersion whose values changes with operating schemes.

Objective:Excelsior XT-27 (Stryker Neurovascular, Fremont, CA, USA) or Rebar 27 (eV3 Covidien, Irvine, CA, USA) microcatheters have recently been used to overcome the limitations of the Renegade Hi-Flo microcatheter such as interference between two microcatheters (one for stent delivery and the other for cerebral aneurysm coiling) during the jailing technique. We evaluated differences and influential factors related to the interference phenomenon according to these two microcatheters group. Materials and Methods:Between June 2011 and September 2013, the jailing technique was applied to 94 internal cerebral artery (ICA) aneurysms. The jailing technique with the Neuroform EZ stent system was performed using Renegade (n = 22), Rebar (n = 35), and XT-27 microcatheters (n = 37). In the Renegade Hi-Flo microcatheter group, the jailing technique was successful in 19/22 patients (86.4%) and interference between the two microcatheters occurred in 6/21 patients (28.6%). In the Rebar and XT-27 microcatheter group, the jailing technique was successful in 71/72 patients (98.6%) and interference between the two microcatheters occurred in 1/72 patients (1.4%). Results:There was a significant difference in the interference between the two delivered microcatheters group (p-value < 0.000) and the carotid siphon angle (p-value: 0.004) in the univariate analysis. In the multiple logistic regression analysis, the Rebar and XT-27 microcatheter group (odds ratio [OD] [95% confidence interval (CI)]; 31.277 [3.138-311.729], p-value: 0.003) and the carotid siphon angle (OD [95%CI]; 0.959 [0.922-0.997], p-value: 0.035) were found to be influential factors in the interference phenomenon. Conclusion: The Rebar 27 and XT-27 microcatheters were more successful and exhibited less interference between the two microcatheters than the Renegade Hi-Flo microcatheter.

“Journey to Havana”(1990), the third short novel of the eponymous book written by Reinaldo Arenas(1943-1990), portrays the lonely life of Ismael, a Cuban exile living in New York, and his journey(or return) to Havana. Ismael's sexuality in “Journey to Havana” is explicitly equated with Arenas' resistance against the Castro’s regime that oppressed its citizens through institutional surveillance practices. First, this paper examines the inversion of the heteronormativity that is embodied through the dynamics of desire towards bodies of the same sex in the process of characterization of each character. On the other hand, the study also reflects on the role of female subject that Arenas assigns to Ismael's abandoned wife, that is the image of “the Angel in the House”. The homosexual solidarity in this story is imagined as a counterpart to the hegemonic masculinity advocated by the Castro’s regime. However, this aspect is not fully achieved because the female subject is reduced to ‘nostalgic femininity’, which is ideally expressed as decent mother and wife. Lastly, this analysis shows that the homoerotic encounters between the protagonist and two young men are expressed as a mythical ritual that wishes to restore Ismael’s youth lost by patriarchal oppression. In the end, it discusses the nostalgic femininity and the idealization of youth represented by the masculine body to reveal the fissure of homosexual solidarity.
