This work aimed to evaluate the feasibility of biohydrogen production from Barley Straw and Miscanthus. The primary obstacle in plant biomass decomposition is the recalcitrance of the biomass itself. Plant cell walls consist of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin, which make the plant robust to decomposition. However, the hyperthermophilic bacterium, Caldicellulosiruptor bescii, can efficiently utilize lignocellulosic feedstocks (Barley Straw and Miscanthus) for energy production, and C. bescii can now be metabolically engineered or isolated to produce more hydrogen and other biochemicals. In the present study, two strains, C. bescii JWCB001 (wild-type) and JWCB018 (ΔpyrFA Δldh ΔcbeI), were tested for their ability to increase hydrogen production from Barley Straw and Miscanthus. The JWCB018 resulted in a redirection of carbon and electron (carried by NADH) flow from lactate production to acetate and hydrogen production. JWCB018 produced ~54% and 63% more acetate and hydrogen from Barley Straw, respectively than its wild-type counterpart, JWCB001. Also, 25% more hydrogen from Miscanthus was obtained by the JWCB018 strain with 33% more acetate relative to JWCB001. It was supported that the engineered C. bescii, such as the JWCB018, can be a parental strain to get more hydrogen and other biochemicals from various biomass.

Uirimchalyo (醫林撮要), one of the most important books in the history of Korean Medicine(KM), has not been researched with in the framework provided byYi’an (醫案),an East Asian tradition of describing clinical encounters with the therapies employed. In modern times, this practice of Yi’an might be similar to the outline of a singular“casestudy”. The authors designed the study to analyze the basic information of Yi’an with in the Uirimchalyo and to contribute to the foundations of employing Yi’an in Korean Medicine. A standard was established, and the 123 Yi’ans were extracted, most of which were taken from the chapter, Historic Doctors(歷代醫學姓氏). Using this information and in comparison with other medical books such as Euibangyoochui(醫方類聚), the authors learned thattheYi’ansfrom theJinyuansidajia(金元四大家), including those of four eminent clinicians in Jin(金) and Yuan(元) Dynasty, are excluded from Uirimchalyo. The authors identified that Yi’ans from other medical books, are cited in the Uirimchalyo but with differentformat, not with the traditionally understood form ofYi’an.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of the void area of the plan for the shortest evacuation route and the cost of evacuation in terms of the spatial planning aspect of the building. The shortest evacuation routes from each regular grid point to the exits were simulated to utilize the Cellular ECEM with consideration on both visibility cost and distance cost. The evacuation routes and the costs for 60 evacuees who were randomly placed in Yeouido IFC Mall were derived. Meanwhile, the different amounts of the void areas were applied for the comparative analysis. As a result, the amount of the void areas on plans increased, the cost relevantly increased as well, because of directional changes that occurs around the void areas, that is, visibility cost increased due to the increase in the number of directional changes to find the route with minimum evacuation cost.

This study aims to examine path-finding algorithms and spatial representation methods through examining characteristics of real-time evacuation route algorithms and weighted values that needed to be considered for the development of real-time evacuation algorithms. The considerations necessary to evaluate in real-time the spread of disaster and the safety level of each route are identified by looking into the real-time evacuation path-finding algorithms and the real-time weighted values. The study divides the spatial representation methods, which map out the actual space for digitalization, into a regular grid and node-link method. Path-finding algorithms are divided into blind search and heuristic search methods to check their limits and potentials for further development. In conclusion, the node-link method and A<SUP>*</SUP> algorithm, which are selected, are discussed.

The purpose of this study is to propose an optimized spatial representation method for the real-time evacuation route search. First, the algorithm and spatial representation of route search used in previous studies are investigated. Based on this, Dijkstra algorithm and A* algorithm were selected to be suitable for real-time evacuation route search, and each algorithm was applied to the regular grid method and the node-link method. Also, for the efficient search of real-time evacuation routes in terms of architectural planning, this study proposed a hybrid spatial representation method that combines the regular grid method and the node-link method. The hybrid spatial representation method was discussed by analyzing its significance in terms of systematic aspects and the quality of evacuation routes.
