        『사랑과 교육』에 나타난 대립적 요소들의 문학적 함의와 글쓰기의 양상

        19세기에 나온 다윈의 진화론과 오귀스트 콩트의 실증주의는 과학에 대한 신뢰를 바탕으로 이전 시대의 신학이나 형이상학적인 체계에서 벗어나 인간의 사유에 깊은 영향을 미쳤다. 1902년에 출간된 우나무노의 『사랑과 교육』은 이러한 사상의 영향력이 컸던 시대에서 그에 대한 비판적 시각이 나타난 시대로의 전환을 배경으로 한다. 이와 같은 인식론적 전환은 작품 속에 제시되는 여러 대립적 요소들을 통해 나타난다. 작품 제목인 ‘사랑’과 ‘교육’이 그러한 면을 내포하고 있으며, 그것은 이야기 전개에 따라 여러 모습으로 그 외연이 확장된다. 더불어 아비토, 풀헨시오 같은 등장인물들에도 갈등적이고 모순적인 모습이 나타난다. 또한, 대립적 요소들은 교육적인 관점이나 서로 양립하기 어려운 요소들을 바탕으로 한 우나무노의 근본적인 사상과 관련해서 논의되었다. 본 연구는 작품 속 대립적 요소들에 대한 기존의 논의를 아우르면서도 그러한 요소들이 우나무노의 문학적 여정에서 중요하게 고려해야 할 문학적 함의를 내포하는 데 주목하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 먼저 『사랑과 교육』에 대립적 요소들이 어떠한 방식으로 제시되며 그 문학적 함의는 무엇인지를 탐색하고, 이어서 ‘현재 시점의 이야기’를 특징으로 하는 실제 글쓰기의 양상을 살펴보았다. Darwin’s theory of evolution and Comte’s positivism in the 19<sup>th</sup> century, based on trust in science, had a profound influence on human thinking, breaking away from the theological and metaphysical systems of previous eras. Unamuno’s Love and Pedagogy, published in 1902, set the background of the transition from an era when such thoughts had a great influence, to an era when critical views on such ideas appeared. This epistemological shift is manifested through a number of contradictory elements present in this work. The title of the work, ‘Love and Pedagogy’, implies such aspects, and its connotations expand in various ways as the story unfolds. In addition, characters such as Avito and Fulgencio also show conflicting and contradictory aspects. Also, such factors were discussed in connection with Unamuno’s educational viewpoints or the fundamental ideas based on elements that are difficult to be compatible with each other. The present study notes that the contradictory elements in this work have been mainly mentioned from the above-described perspectives, but in addition they contain literary implication that should be considered important in Unamuno’s literary journey. Therefore, this study first explores how those elements are presented in the work and what their literary implication is, and subsequently examines the aspect of writing featuring ‘story in present’.

      • MSE-Based Hybrid RF/Baseband Processing for Millimeter-Wave Communication Systems in MIMO Interference Channels

        <P>We consider the design of a hybrid multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) processor consisting of a radio frequency (RF) beamformer and a baseband MIMO processor for millimeter-wave communications over multiuser interference channels. Sparse approximation problems are formulated to design hybrid MIMO processors approximating the minimum-mean-square-error transmit/receive processors in MIMO interference channels. They are solved by orthogonal-matching-pursuit-based algorithms that successively select RF beamforming vectors from a set of candidate vectors and optimize the corresponding baseband processor in the least squares sense. It is shown that various beamformers can be designed by considering different types of candidate vector sets. Simulation results demonstrate the advantage of the proposed design over the conventional method that designs the baseband processor after steering the RF beams.</P>

        A COMPARISON STUDY OF EXPLICIT AND IMPLICIT NUMERICAL METHODS FOR THE EQUITY-LINKED SECURITIES

        In this paper, we perform a comparison study of explicit and implicit numerical methods for the equity-linked securities (ELS). The option prices of the two-asset ELS are typically computed using an implicit finite difference method because an explicit finite difference scheme has a restriction for time steps. Nowadays, the three-asset ELS is getting popularity in the real world financial market. In practical applications of the finite difference methods in computational finance, we typically use relatively large space steps and small time steps. Therefore, we can use an accurate and efficient explicit finite difference method because the implementation is simple and the computation is fast. The computational results demonstrate that if we use a large space step, then the explicit scheme is better than the implicit one. On the other hand, if the space step size is small, then the implicit scheme is more efficient than the explicit one.

        La infancia como alegoría de la ontología literaria en Historias de la Artámila

        Gonzalo Sobejano classified the Spanish postwar novel into existential novels, social novels, and structural or experimental novels. However, as many critics point out, Ana María Matute's works do really not fit into any specific literary trend, but rather represent an independent domain in themselves. This is related to the fact that she wrote many works on the subject of ‘childhood’ in addition to the fact that she developed a very original writing style. By the way, we can think of childhood as a central element of Matute’s literature as a device that effectively reveals the nature of literature, beyond the general interpretation of describing children’s worlds as children’s literature or as a criticism of the world created by adults. She did not view childhood as a mere phase in the process of becoming an adult, as it used to be considered, but as an independent, closed and complete world in itself. We examine the meaning of the ‘forest’ and the ‘room’ as specific spaces that symbolize it, and then explore how childhood functions as a hermetic world that reveals to her the nature of a kind of literature which is radically different from the real world of grown-ups. In order to derive this aspect, we investigate the meaning of childhood as an allegory of Matute’s literary ontology, analyzing “Don Payasito”, “The King” “The Dry Branch” and “The Birds” in Tales of Artamila.

      • Heat Tolerance of the Indian Meal Moth, Plodia interpunctella

        Heat treatment has been widely used to control some stored insect pests. The Indian meal moth, Plodia interpunctella, gives massive economic loss to most stored grains. Heat tolerance of P. interpunctella was assessed in most developmental stages in this study. Heat treatment at 44oC for 1 h was lethal to P. interpunctella. Compared to other developmental stages, late larval instar larvae were more tolerant to the heat treatment. Some of the fifth instar larvae could survive under 44oC for 80 min, but completely died at exposure to 45oC for 80 min. However, the survival rates of the larvae significantly increased by pre-exposure to sublethal temperature at 37oC. The rapid induction of heat tolerance was accompanied with increases in gene expressions of two heat shock proteins, Hsp70 and Hsp90, but not in that of Hsp25. Interestingly, hemolymph trehalose levels also increased from 39.2 mM to 51.3 mM by pre-exposure to 37oC for 30 min. These results suggest that P. interpunctella induces a rapid heat tolerance by up-regulation of heat shock protein levels and hemolymph trehalose levels.

        Value of the New 5-Tiered Prostate Cancer Grade Group System on Predicting Oncological Outcomes for Radical Prostatectomy Population in Korea

        Purpose: We evaluated the prognostic value of the 5-tiered grade group in Korean patients who underwent radical prostatectomy. Materials and Methods: Between 1996 and 2016, a number of 2,883 consecutive patients who underwent radical prostatectomy were included for the analysis. The impacts of biopsy and pathologic grade group on predicting biochemical recurrence (BCR) were assessed using multivariate analysis. Median follow-up duration was 49.0 months. Results: Mean age was 66.5 years and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) was 11.8 ng/mL. Prostate cancer was locally advanced on magnetic resonance imaging in 13.4%. Biopsy grade group was as follows: 1 (46.8%), 2(19.8%), 3 (14.2%), 4 (14.1%), and 5 (5.1%). Pathology stage was ≤T2 in 63.6%, T3a in 26.0%, and T3b/T4 in 10.4% patients. Pathologic grade was as follows: 1 (31.3%), 2 (37.9%), 3 (20.2%), 4 (4.7%), and 5 (5.1%). In multivariate analysis using biopsy-related variables, biopsy grade group (1, reference; 2, hazard ratio [HR], 1.771; p=0.001; 3, HR, 2.736; p<0.001; 4, HR, 2.966; p<0.001; 5, HR, 3.707; p<0.001) was associated with BCR-free survival, PSA level and % positive core. In multivariate analysis using pathologic outcomes, pathologic grade group(1, reference; 2, HR, 1.882; p<0.001; 3, HR, 3.352; p<0.001; 4, HR, 3.890; p<0.001; 5, HR: 3.118, p<0.001) was associated with BCR-free survival in addition to pathologic stage and positive surgical margin. Conclusions: New 5-tiered grading system could be useful for predicting oncological outcomes in Korean patients although its role for distinguishing outcomes between patients with grade groups 3.5 need to be validated before wide application of this grade system in Korea.

        정보 기술의 빠른 발전과 유비쿼터스 시대에 대응하기 위해 필요한 인프라 가운데 하나인 센서 네트워크의 가장 중요한 이슈는 제한된 에너지를 효율적으로 이용하여 전체 네트워크의 수명(Lifetime)을 늘리는 것이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 센서 노드에서 가장 많은 에너지를 소모하는 송수신에 관련된 메시지를 줄이고 센서 노드들의 에너지를 효율적으로 분산하여 전체 네트워크의 수명을 늘리는 질의 기반 에너지 인식라우팅 트리(QEART)를 제안한다. QEART는 계층적 기반의 센서 네트워크에서 클러스터 내의 효율적인 데이터 수집을 위해 경로 상의 질의를 통해 발생한 결과 데이터의 수와 잔여 에너지양의 합을 이용해 불필요한 노드간의 통신 메시지를 줄이고 노드간의 분산적인 통신 참여를 통해 균형 있는 에너지 소비를 유도함으로써 전체 네트워크의 수명이 향상됨을 보였다.
