        Equivalent static wind loads for stability design of large span roof structures

        Wind effects on roofs are usually considered by equivalent static wind loads based on the equivalence of displacement or internal force for structural design. However, for large-span spatial structures that are prone to dynamic instability under strong winds, such equivalent static wind loads may be inapplicable. The dynamic stability of spatial structures under unsteady wind forces is therefore studied in this paper. A new concept and its corresponding method for dynamic instability-aimed equivalent static wind loads are proposed for structural engineers. The method is applied in the dynamic stability design of an actual double-layer cylindrical reticulated shell under wind actions. An experimental-numerical method is adopted to study the dynamic stability of the shell and the dynamic instability originating from critical wind velocity. The dynamic instability-aimed equivalent static wind loads of the shell are obtained.

        Isolation and Identification of an Autophagy-inducing Compound from Raphani Semen

        The autophagy-lysosomal pathway is an important protein degradation system, and its dysfunction has been implicated in a number of neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease. Raphani Semen, one of the herbs of Yeoldahanso-tang (YH), has neuroprotective effects via the autophagy pathway. The activity-guided method was used to isolate and identify the components of Raphani Semen. In this experiment, the total extract of Raphani Semen was partitioned to n-butanol, methylene chloride, and water fractions. Flow cytometry data showed that only the water fraction showed autophagy-inducing activity in vitro. Compounds 1 and 2 were isolated from this water fraction by preparative HPLC separation. The structures of compounds 1 and 2 were identified as stachyose and raffinose, respectively, by the analysis of various spectral data (1H NMR, 13C NMR, and MS) and comparisons with standard stachyose and raffinose. Of these two compounds, raffinose showed autophagy-inducing activity in PC12 cells through the mTOR pathway.

        Effect of rain on flutter derivatives of bridge decks

        Flutter derivatives provide the basis of predicting the critical wind speed in flutter and buffeting analysis of long-span cable-supported bridges. Many studies have been performed on the methods and applications of identification of flutter derivatives of bridge decks under wind action. In fact, strong wind, especially typhoon, is always accompanied by heavy rain. Then, what is the effect of rain on flutter derivatives and flutter critical wind speed of bridges? Unfortunately, there have been no studies on this subject. This paper makes an initial study on this problem. Covariance-driven Stochastic Subspace Identification (SSI in short) which is capable of estimating the flutter derivatives of bridge decks from their steady random responses is presented first. An experimental set-up is specially designed and manufactured to produce the conditions of rain and wind. Wind tunnel tests of a quasi-streamlined thin plate model are conducted under conditions of only wind action and simultaneous wind-rain action, respectively. The flutter derivatives are then extracted by the SSI method, and comparisons are made between the flutter derivatives under the two different conditions. The comparison results tentatively indicate that rain has non-trivial effects on flutter derivatives, especially on and $H_2$ and $A_2$thus the flutter critical wind speeds of bridges.

        Research on the Impact of China’s OFDI on RMB Internationalization in the Context of the “One Belt One Road” Initiative

        RMB internationalization improved in 2013 with the “Belt and Road” initiative. The scheme first regionalized the RMB in Belt and Road nations, then globalized it. Chinese companies’ worldwide development and foreign direct investment have increased due to the “One Belt, One Road” policy. This paper examines how Chinese OFDI affects RMB internationalization under the “Belt and Road” program. The analysis uses ARIMA and combines theoretical and empirical methodologies. The research targets Belt and Road ASEAN nations. The empirical research found that outward foreign direct investment (OFDI) may boost RMB recognition and ASEAN-China economic and financial relations. Thus, it would promote RMB acceptance and globalization in these locations.

      • A Phase II Study on Continuous Infusional Paclitaxel and 5-Fu as First-line Chemotherapy for Patients with Advanced Esophageal Cancer

        Objective: This study was performed to evaluated the efficacy and safety of continuous infusional paclitaxel and 5-Fu as first-line chemotherapy in patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell cancer (ESCC). Methods: A total of 22 patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell cancer with no indications for surgery and radiation therapy, or recurrent patients were enrolled from October 2008 to November 2010. All were treated with PTX 20 $mg/m^2$ was administered through a 16 hours continuous intravenous infusion on days 1 to 3, 8 and 9. DDP 3.75 $mg/m^2$ was given on days 1 to 4 and 8 to 11, continuous infusional 5-FU over 24-hours on days 1 to 5 and 8 to 12 at a dose of 375 $mg/m^2$, and folacin 60 mg orally synchronized with 5-Fu. The treatment was repeated every 21 days for at least two cycles. Results: 22 cases of all enrolled patients could be evaluated for the effect of treatment: 2 cases were CR, 9 cases PR, 5 cases SD and 2 cases PD, giving an overall response rate of 68.2%(15/22). The median time to progression was 7.0 months. The adverse reactions related to chemotherapy were tolerable; the most common toxic effects were marrow depression, alopecia, and fatigue. Conclusion: Low-dose continuous infusional PTX over 16-hours and 5-fu over 24-hours is a promising regimen with good tolerability in treating patients with advanced esophageal squamous cell cancer.

        VR 환경 속에서 색온도 및 조도(照度)가 환경인지도와 길찾기에 미치는 영향

        본 연구의 목적은 가상 환경에서 조명의 색온도, 광속(lx) 조건이 인간의 길찾기 및 환경지각에 대한 주관적 판단에미치는 영향을 탐구하는 데에 있다. 또한 CG 가상현실 환경을 통해 복잡한 평면도와 지속적 공간이 있는 가상 환경에서 색온도, 광색 및 광속의 변량을 이용하여 가상 환경의 인식 및 길찾기 능력을 해결하고 향상하게 시키는 방법을 연구하였다. 다양한 광색 조건 변수의 가상현실 환경에서 실험 참가자(N=60)의 자료를 조사하고 SD의 심리적조사 방법을 사용하여 이러한 조건 아래의 차이를 평가하였다. 그 결과 고(高)색 온도 및 중(中) 색온도의 광원 환경보다 저색 온도(난색)의 흡인력과 기억 분수가 더 높다. 하지만 고색 온도(한색) 환경은 선택의 망설임을 줄이고 더나은 통과 효율을 얻을 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 연구에 따르면 고아속이 낮은 가상 환경에서 고색 온도를 사용하든 저색 온도를 사용하든 다 부정적인 효과를 낼 것이라고 한다. 따라서 저색 온도 조명 환경은 효과적인 도로찾기 표시로 사용될 수 있고, 광범위적으로 고색 온도를 사용하는 공간 조명 조건이 도로 찾기 및 통행 효율에 더도움이 되는 것으로 간주한다. 또 여성이 남성보다 고광도 수준의 가상 환경을 선호한다는 연구 결과도 나왔다. The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of color temperature and lx conditions on human pathfinding and environmental perception in virtual environment.In addition, in CG virtual reality environment, how to use color temperature, light color and light flux variables to solve and improve the cognitive and pathfinding ability of virtual environment is studied.The data of participants (N=60) in virtual reality environment with various light and color conditions were investigated, and the differences were evaluated using SD psychological survey method.The results show that low color temperature (warm color) has higher attraction and memory score than high color temperature and neutral color temperature.Furthermore, the study confirmed that the use of color temperature in a virtual environment with low-throughput light levels, regardless of color temperature, results in negative effects.Therefore, low color temperature (warm color) lighting environment can be used as an effective wayfinding landmark, but wider use of high color temperature (cold color) lighting conditions are considered to be more conducive to pathfinding and traffic efficiency.In addition, the results show that women prefer high-brightness virtual environments to men.
