      • Suitable traverse ratios for step precision winding

Milind Vasudeo Koranne,Kuldeep Mhedu 한국의류학회 2016 Fashion and Textiles Vol.3 No.1

Step precision winding produces a yarn package that is free from ribbon formation and marginal variation in coil angle. In open step precision winding, traverse ratios used during package build are such that the resultant package is open suitable for end user applications like warping and dyeing. It is always a critical task for a manufacturer of step precision yarn winding system to find values of traverse ratios which are open and definitely ribbon free without any appearance of diamonds or honeycomb. Traverse ratios used in any commercial step precision yarn winding system are not accessible to the user. The authors have carried out basic work of finding suitable open wind traverse ratios for step precision winding and have come out with a novel approach of “SAFE ZONES” for finding suitable open traverse ratios. This paper discusses this novel approach that is very useful for manufacturers of step precision winding systems.

Comparative Brain Cholinesterase-Inhibiting Activity of Glycyrrhiza glabra, Myristica fragrans, Ascorbic Acid, and Metrifonate in Mice

        Milind Parle,Dinesh Dhingra,S.K. Kulkarni 한국식품영양과학회 2006 Journal of medicinal food Vol.9 No.2

The central cholinergic pathways play a prominent role in the learning and memory processes. Acetyl-cholinesterase is an enzyme that inactivates acetylcholine. The present study was undertaken to estimate the acetyl-cholinesterase-inhibiting activity of extracts of Glycyrrhiza glabra, Myristica fragransseeds, and ascorbic acid and comparethese values with a standard acetylcholinesterase-inhibiting drug, metrifonate. Aqueous extract of G. glabra(150 mg/kg p.o.for 7 successive days), n-hexane extract of M. fragransseeds (5 mg/kg p.o. for 3 successive days), ascorbic acid (60 mg/kgi.p. for 3 successive days), and metrifonate (50 mg/kg i.p.) were administered to young male Swiss albino mice. Acetyl-cholinesterase enzyme was estimated in brains of mice. G. glabra, M. fragrans, ascorbic acid, and metrifonate significantlydecreased acetylcholinesterase activity as compared with their respective vehicle-treated control groups.

Memory-Strengthening Activity of Glycyrrhiza glabra in Exteroceptive and Interoceptive Behavioral Models

        Milind Parle,Dinesh Dhingra,S.K. Kulkarni 한국식품영양과학회 2004 Journal of medicinal food Vol.7 No.4

In the traditional system of medicine, the roots and rhizomes of Glycyrrhiza glabrahave been employed clin-ically for centuries for their anti-inflammatory, anti-ulcer, expectorant, antimicrobial, and anxiolytic activities. The presentstudy was undertaken to investigate the effects of G. glabra, popularly known as liquorice (Mulathi), on learning and mem-ory. The elevated plus-maze and passive avoidance paradigm were employed to evaluate learning and memory parameters.Three doses (75, 150, and 300 mg/kg p.o.) of aqueous extract of G. glabrawere administered for 7 successive days in sepa-rate groups of mice. The dose of 150 mg/kg of the aqueous extract of liquorice significantly improved learning and memoryof mice. Furthermore, this dose reversed the amnesia induced by diazepam (1 mg/kg i.p.), scopolamine (0.4 mg/kg i.p.), andethanol (1 g/kg i.p.). Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of liquorice may be contributing favorably to the memoryenhancement effect. Since scopolamine-induced amnesia was reversed by liquorice, it is possible that the beneficial effect onlearning and memory may be because of facilitation of cholinergic transmission in brain. However, further studies are ne-cessitated to identify the exact mechanism of action. In the present investigation, G. glabrahas shown promise as a memoryenhancer in both exteroceptive and interoceptive behavioral models of memory.

Royal Jelly Protein and Lipid Composition in Apis cerana indica F.

( Milind Manohar Shinkhede ),( Dnyaneshwar Bapuji Tembhare ) 한국잠사학회 2009 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.18 No.2

The histological and transmission electron microscopic studies revealed the synthesis activity predominantly in the hypopharyngeal glands of the nurse bees. The biochemical analysis of both, the hypopharyngeal gland extract and royal jelly elucidated unequivocally the proteins and lipids as the major constituents. Further the SDS-PAGE of hypopharyngeal gland extract showed about 17 protein bands, perhaps 14.10, 20.00, 29.00 and 43.00 kDa predominantly while that of royal jelly revealed only two protein bands of 29.00 and 43.00 kDa molecular weight suggesting them as the major royal jelly proteins (MRJP). The lipid profile of royal jelly consists of triglycerides, cholesterol, HDL, LDL and VLDL.

How Does Family Succession Impact Family Firms’ Innovation?

Juili Milind Ballal,Varadraj Bapat 아시아기술혁신학회 2019 Asian Journal of Innovation and Policy Vol.8 No.2

Family business is the oldest and the most prevalent type of entity in the world. In India, 85% of the enterprises are owned and/or managed by families, contributing to two-third of GDP. Thus the survival of family firms, which also generates 79% of private sector employment, is of paramount importance. Effective succession planning and innovation to gain competitive edge are the two key ways to ensure family firm survival. In this paper, the interplay between family succession and innovation is qualitatively studied using case study approach. Successors and Predecessors are interviewed to gain insights in the areas of succession planning and innovation. It is observed that family succession has a positive relationship with innovation, i.e. the presence of founding family members in the ownership and/or management of the enterprise has a positive influence on innovation tendency of the family firms. The findings contribute to the family business literature on succession planning and innovation, and their inter-relationship.

Variability and Teleconnections of South and East Asian Summer Monsoons in Present and Future Projections of CMIP5 Climate Models

        Bhaskar Preethi,Milind Mujumdar,Amita Prabhu,Ramesh Kripalani 한국기상학회 2017 Asia-Pacific Journal of Atmospheric Sciences Vol.53 No.2

Coupled Model Inter-comparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) model outputs of the South and East Asian summer monsoon variability and their tele-connections are investigated using historical simulations (1861-2005) and future projections under the RCP4.5 scenario (2006-2100). Detailed analyses are performed using nine models having better representation of the recent monsoon teleconnections for the interactive Asian monsoon sub-systems. However, these models underestimate rainfall mainly over South Asia and Korea-Japan sector, the regions of heavy rainfall, along with a bias in location of rainfall maxima. Indeed, the simulation biases, underestimations of monsoon variability and teleconnections suggest further improvements for better representation of Asian monsoon in the climate models. Interestingly, the performance of Australian Community Climate and Earth System Simulator version 1.0 (ACCESS1.0) in simulating the annual cycle, spatial pattern of rainfall and multi-decadal variations of summer monsoon rainfall over South and East Asia appears to more realistic. In spite of large spread among the CMIP5 models, historical simulations as well as future projections of summer monsoon rainfall indicate multidecadal variability. These rainfall variations, displaying certain epochs of more rainfall over South Asia than over East Asia and vice versa, suggest an oscillatory behaviour. Teleconnections between South and East Asian monsoon rainfall also exhibit a multi-decadal variation with alternate epochs of strengthening and weakening relationship. Furthermore, large-scale circulation features such as South Asian monsoon trough and north Pacific subtropical high depict zonal oscillatory behaviour with east-west-east shifts. Periods with eastward or westward extension of the Mascarene High, intensification and expansion of the upper tropospheric South Asian High are also projected by the CMIP5 models.
