        한국 EFL 학습자의 영어 발표에서의 담화표지 사용

        This study examines the use of discourse markers in English presentations by first-year university students in Korea. A total of forty-eight students made three-minute speeches about both education and social issues. Their speeches were analyzed regarding discourse marker types and the effects of speech topics and English proficiency. The results reveal that they rarely used discourse markers in their speeches and the frequently employed types were referential and structural markers. The education issue more familiar to them led to more use of discourse markers. In addition, the difference in English proficiency did not affect employing discourse markers. It is suggested that EFL learners’ pragmatic knowledge be improved through sufficient input and output of discours markers. (Jinju National University of Education)

        조형원리를 기반으로 한 꽃의 조형요소에 관한 연구 -꽃의 구조에 따른 조형 분류를 중심으로-

        꽃은 일상 및 예술을 비롯한 인류 문화의 모든 영역에서 미의 영감의 원천이 되어왔다. 화예디자인은 꽃과 식물의 생명력을 표현하는 조형예술 분야로 그 영역이 확장되고 있지만 객관적 미학의 대상으로 서 꽃의 심미성에 관한 탐구는 아직 미약하다. 따라서 꽃의 아름다움에 대한 체계적인 탐구는 꽃에 대 한 새로운 해석과 함께 미학의 또 다른 분야를 열어줄 것으로 기대된다. 본 연구는 꽃의 아름다움을 객관화하기 위해 정량적 방법으로 꽃의 조형요소를 체계화하는데 목적이 있다. 연구과정은 디자인에 서의 조형성 유형을 선행연구로, 식물학적 꽃부리 분류체계의 고찰을 통한 꽃의 분류체계 범위 내에서 꽃의 형상적 조형요소를 분석, 연구를 진행하였다. 그러나 식물학적 분류 체계에 따라 다소 범위의 차 이가 있는 것을 감안하여 관련 서적과 인터넷 자료를 토대로 6개의 분류 방식에서 도출된 총 114개의 꽃 가운데, 단 하나의 유형으로 분류되거나 기준이 다른 것을 제외한 103개를 분석 대상의 범위로 하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 꽃의 형태에 따른 조형적 꽃부리의 범위와 내용을 정리, 총 18개의 항목이 분류 되었으며 식물학 분류 체계에 없는 부분이 일부 추가되었다. 둘째, 꽃의 조형적 특징으로 대칭성이 두드러짐을 확인하였다. 셋째, 정면 모양에서 좌우대칭형과 함께 방사대칭형 중 오각형의 꽃이 다수 도출되었다. 넷째, 꽃의 색채에서는 명도대비가 주요한 특성으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 이를 기초로 꽃의 객 관적 분석 자료로 활용할 수 있는 꽃부리 형태와 색채 분석 모듈을 정리하였다. 본 연구는 꽃의 사례 범위가 제한적이기는 하지만 꽃의 조형적 특징을 정량적 요소로 분석함으로써 꽃의 아름다움의 객관 적 측정 가능성을 확인하였고, 연구에서 제시한 꽃부리의 조형요소 통합분석모듈은 차후 꽃의 사용목 적과 범위에 따라 꽃의 미적 요소에 대한 객관적 자료의 군집별 발췌 가능성이 예상되며, 나아가 본 연구의 결과가 꽃의 객관적 미학을 위한 후속 연구의 밑거름이 되기를 기대한다. Flowers have been a source of inspiration for beauty in all areas of human culture, including everyday life and arts. Flower Design is a field of formative arts with flowers as its medium, but regarding the subject of objective aesthetics, the research for its aesthetic beauty, are still weak. Thus, exploring the objectivity of the beauty of flowers is expected to open up an another chapter of its aesthetics with a new interpretation of flowers. This study aims to systematize the aesthetic principle of flowers in quantitative ways based on the flower’s figurative elements. The process of the research was developed with the botanical flower corolla classification system to analyze the shaping elements according to the shape of the flower, and conducted the scope of the classification of the flower accordingly. However, considering the differences in the scope of botanical classification, 103 flowers out of a total of 114 types derived from six different classifications based on related books and Internet data were included in the analysis, excluding those classified as a single type or with different criteria. First according to the results of the study, the scope and contents of the formative corolla from the shape of the flowers, were organized into 18 categories, and some of the missing parts of the botanical classification system have been added. Second, the symmetry of flowers, especially the radial symmetry with pentagonal flowers, and the lightness contrast were found to be prominent. Third, based on this, the formative corolla and color analysis module system was organized. Although the range of flower cases were limited, this study confirmed the possibility of an objective measurement for the beauty of flowers by analysing the flower’s formative characteristics as quantitative factors, and the integrated analysis module for the element forms of a corolla presented in the study is expected to be the basis for subsequent research on flower object aesthetics, depending on the purpose and field of the use of flowers in the future.

        생존과 공존, 그리고 상상으로서 고대 문화의 미적 현상에 관한 연구 - 마음의 진화적 관점에서 -

        스티븐 미슨은 인간의 여러 영역의 지능이 통합하면서 일어난 인식의 유동성으로 인류 문명의 탄생 과정을 밝히고 있다. 본 연구는 스티븐 미슨의 인식의 유동성 관점에서 인간의 보편적 심리에 의거, 고대 문화의 미적 현상을 분석하여 고도로 발달한 추상화 영역으로서의 예술이 자연사 지능, 사회적 지능, 기술지능의 결합 과정임을 밝히고자 한다. 연구의 범위로는 고대 문화 산물을 중심으로 미술적 해석의 여지가 있는 것을 대상으로 한다. 연구방법으로는 인식의 유동성 관점에서 문화 출현 범위를 범주화하고 그에 해당하는 문화 산물 사례를 선정, 추측되는 제작 의도와 예술성에 관한 일반적 인식을 알아보는 설문을 실행한다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 문화 영역에서 나타난 ‘상징’이 인식의 유동성에 의한 결과로서 은유와 유추를 사용하는 추상화 사고임을 밝혔다. 둘째, 예술성 여부의 주요 개념어로 도출된 ‘시대성’은 예술이 단순한 심미성 이상의 사회적 시대의 의식을 담아내는 문화 영역으로서, 인식의 유동성에 따라 서사적 상상의 과정을 통해 비현실적, 비실용적 문화 예술이 출현하게 되는 예술 고유의 프로세스임을 확인하였다. 셋째, 인식의 유동성에 의해 자연사 지능, 사회적 지능, 기술지능이 각각 결합하여 인류 문화의 고유 영역을 만들어낸 심리기제로서 투사, 생존, 공존, 상상임을 밝혔다. 넷째, 예술 영역의 문화 산물은 인간에게 내재된 심미성을 기반으로 기능적인 것 이상의 감성가치 및 사회적, 상징적 가치가 개입된 예술적 결과물임을 확인하였다. 차후 본 연구의 결과가 미적 보편성을 이해하는 근거 자료로서 미술에 대한 이해의 확장과 함께 예술의 지향점과 가치 재고의 부표가 되기를 기대한다. Steven Mithen reveals the process of the birth of human civilization with the idea of the cognitive fluidity that occurred with the integration of intelligence in various areas of human beings. This study analyzes the aesthetic phenomena of ancient cultures from the perspective of the cognitive fluidity of Steven Mithen, and reveals that art is a highly developed area of abstraction which is a process of union natural history intelligence, social intelligence, and technical intelligence based on human universal psychology. The scope of the study is focused on ancient cultural products, which possess artistic interpretation. The research methods are categorizing the scope of the emergence of cultures that viewed from cognitive fluidity, selecting the images that accorded to it, and surveying to explore general perceptions about the images and the artistry of ancient cultural products. As a result of this study, first, it was confirmed that the "symbol" in the cultural realm was a way of abstract thinking by using metaphors and analogies as a result formed by cognitive fluidity. Second, the term 'times' derived as the main element of artistry revealed that art has its own specific process in which unrealistic and impractical cultural emerges through the narrative imagination depending on cognitive fluidity. Third, the psychological mechanism that combines natural history intelligence, social intelligence and technological intelligence through cognitive fluidity, was shown as a creation of a unique human culture, which are projection, survival, coexistence, and imagination respectively. Fourth, based on the aesthetic inherent features in humans, cultural products in the art field were confirmed to be artistic results involving emotional and social, symbolic values that are beyond functional ones. I hope this study will be a buoy to find the direction and value in art, by expanding the interest in art as a ground for understanding aesthetic universality.

        Value of the Frontal Assessment Battery Tool for Assessing the Frontal Lobe Function in Stroke Patients

        Objective To examine the correlation between the Frontal Assessment Battery (FAB) test, which is used to assess the frontal lobe function, and anatomical lesions as well as the ability of the test to detect frontal lobe dysfunction. Methods Records of stroke patients undergoing a FAB test and Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) were retrospectively reviewed. The patients were divided into three groups according to the lesions determined by an imaging study: frontal lobe cortex lesions, frontal subcortical circuit lesions, and other lesions. The FAB scores of the three groups were compared using the Kruskal-Wallis test. The validity of the FAB test to detect frontal lobe dysfunction was assessed by a comparison with the Computerized Neuropsychological Function Test (CNT) using the Spearman correlation coefficient. The correlation coefficients between the FAB test and MMSE were analyzed further based on the MMSE cutoff score. Results Patients with frontal cortex lesions had significantly lower total and subtest scores according to the FAB test than the other patients. The FAB test correlated better with the CNT than the MMSE, particularly in the executive function and memory domains. A high MMSE score (r=0.435) indicated a lower correlation with the FAB test score than a low MMSE score (r=0.714). Conclusion The FAB test could differentiate frontal lobe lesions from others in stroke patients and showed a good correlation with the CNT. Moreover, the FAB test can be used in patients with high MMSE scores to detect frontal lobe dysfunction and determine the treatment strategies for stroke patients.

      • Antioxidant Effect of Peanut (Arachishypogaea L.) Hull Extracts in Oxidative-damaged HepG2 Cells

        This study was performed to examine the antioxidant effect of peanut (Arachishypogaea L.) hull extracts in oxidative- damaged human hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG2) cells. The cultivars used as materials were Sinpalkwang, Pungan, and K-Ol and they were pretreated under three conditions (HP, high pressure (1.2 MPa); HTPW, high temperature and pressure (121℃, 120kPa) with water; HTPA, high temperature and pressure (121℃, 120kPa) with acetic acid) prior to extraction. The HepG2 cells viabilities were over 90% at the concentration of 100 μg/ml, 50 μg/ml, 25 μg/ml, 12.5 μg/ml of each extracts. Accordingly, the intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) level of HepG2 cells on peanut hull extracts was analyzed at those non-cytotoxic concentrations to investigate the antioxidant effect. The ROS level was the lowest (81.4%) at the 100 μg/ml of no pretreated Pungan extract. The highest was 199.1% at the 12.5 μg/ml of HTPA pretreated Pungan extract. And the differences in ROS level between cultivars, pretreatments and concentrations were significant (p<0.05). These results can be used as basic data to utilize peanut byproducts.

        Survivin protects fused cancer cells from cell death

        Tetraploidy, a potential precursor of cancer-associated aneuploidy, is produced either by cell fusion or failure of cytokinesis. In this study, low p53-expressing HeLa cells were used to address the fate of cancer cells after fusion. We found that massive cell death or growth arrest occurred a few days after fusion. Interestingly, cells with larger nuclei preferentially died after fusion, suggesting that a larger deviation of DNA content is a strong inducer of apoptosis. Notably, a fraction of cells escaped cell death. Also, the stability of survivin increased, and its localization changed preferentially to the cytosol in fused cells. Knockdown of survivin decreased the survival of fused cells, more than observed in unfused cells, showing increased dependency of fused cells on survivin. Collectively, after cancer cell fusion, some fused cells avoid the apoptotic crisis partly owing to survivin, and continue to proliferate, a process that contributes to human cancer progression.         Absolute Configurations of (±)-Glabridin Enantiomers

        Concerned with ambiguous stereochemistry assignment of natural (+)-glabridin, absolute configurations of (±)-glabridin enantiomers were studied with synthetic glabridin. Synthetic glabridin enantiomers were separated by semi-preparative Sumi-chiral column chromatography, and characterized by UV-Vis and NMR spectroscopy. Three-dimensional molecular structure of glabridin was obtained as equatorial Ph-3 half chair chroman ring from semi-empirical PM3 calculation, and refined by coupling constants in 1H NMR spectrum. Finally, absolute configurations of two enantiomers were determined by circular dichroism spectroscopy based on the empirical helicity rules. Absolute configuration of natural (+)-glabridin was confirmed as (R)-glabridin, as known.
