        Effects of sperm insemination on the final meiotic maturation of mouse oocytes arrested at metaphase I after in vitro maturation

        Objective: The aims of this study were to investigate whether fertilization could induce the resumption of meiosis in mouse oocytes arrested at metaphase I (MI) after in vitro maturation (IVM), and to investigate the effect of $Ca^{2+}$ chelator treatment at the time of fertilization on the transition from MI to metaphase II (MII). Methods: MII-stage and arrested MI-stage mouse oocytes after IVM were fertilized, and then embryonic development was monitored. Blastocysts from each group were transferred into 2.5 days post-coitum pseudo-pregnant ICR mice. MI oocytes after IVM were treated with a $Ca^{2+}$ chelator to investigate the effect of $Ca^{2+}$ oscillations on their maturation. Results: As insemination time increased, the number of oocytes in the MI group that reached the MII stage also increased. The blastocyst rates and total cell numbers in the MII group were significantly higher than in the MI group. No pregnancy occurred in the MI group, but 10 pregnancies were achieved (10 of 12) in the MII group. The proportion of MI oocytes that matured to MII oocytes after fertilization was significantly higher in the non-treated group than in the $Ca^{2+}$ chelator-treated group. Conclusion: The findings that a higher proportion of MI-arrested oocytes progressed to MII after fertilization and that the MI-to-MII transition was blocked by $Ca^{2+}$ chelator treatments before fertilization indicate that the maturation of MI oocytes to MII oocytes is associated with intracellular $Ca^{2+}$ oscillations driven by fertilization.

        Mesenteric cyst is a rare intraabodominal mass which is composed of most fibrous tissue with focal lining by flattened cells, cholestrol clefts and foam cells but lack of smooth musscle components and elements of the Iymphatic system. And, this entity is frequently misdiagnosed preoperatively as a cystic Iymphangioma. Therefore, histologic and ultrastructural evidence suggest that they are pathologically distinct. It must be distinguished from other intraabdominal and retroperitoneal cyst because outcome of surgical treatment is different. We report a case of mesenteric cyst arising in mesentery of ascending colon in a 46 year old male who had developed as a presenting symptom of periumbilical pain for 2 days before admission, with review of literatures.

      • 초피 추출물의 수율 및 항균활성

        초피를 유기용매 및 초임계이산화탄소와 보조용매로서 에탄올로 추출하여 각각의 추출수율을 측정하고, 이들 추출물들의 항균활성을 검색하였다. 유기용매별로 추출하여 각각의 추출수율을 측정한 결과, 증류수인 경우 20%로서 가장 높았고, 나머지 헥산, 에테르, 에탄올인 경우 3%이하로 매우 적었다. 또한 추출 용매로 초임계이산화탄소-에탄올을 병용했을 때 초피의 추출수율과 용해도는 초임계이산화탄소만을 사용했을 때보다 1.4배 이상 높았다. 용매별 추출물들의 항균성을 검색한 결과 모든 추출물들이 B.cereus에 대해 항균성을 나타내었는데, 특히 에탄올, 에테르 추출물들의 항균성이 더 큰 것으로 나타났다. 초임계이산화탄소-에탄올 추출물은 초임계이산화탄소만을 사용한 추출물과 거의 동일한 항균성을 나타내었다. Extraction yields of Zanthoxylum piperitum by organic solvents and supercritical carbon dioxide(SC-CO₂) with and without ethanol as a cosolvent, and antimicrobial activities of the extracts against Bacillus cereus were determined. Extraction yield by distilled water was the highest, 20%, while those by ethanol, ethyl ether and hexane were less than 3%. Extraction yield by SC-CO₂ with ethanol was 1.42 times greater than that by only SC-CO₂ Ethyl ether- and ethanol-extracts had potent antimicrobial activities against B.cereus. Extraction yield by SC-CO₂ with ethanol showed almost the same degree of microbial growth inhibition as that by only SC-CO₂.

        처용무 반주음악의 특징

        In the royal court banquet of the Choso˘n dynasty (1392-1910), most court dances were accompanied by the terrace orchestra known as tu˘ngga 登歌 (wind and string orchestra) or its reduced format. This practice had been maintained until the early 20th century. In the case of Ch'o˘yongmu 處容舞 one of court dances, however, its musical accompaniment was differenciated in a very special way during the reign of King Sukchong 肅宗 (1674-1720). In this period, Ch'o˘yongmu was accompanied by winds ensemble, and this aspect could be found out at the best royal grant music (ildu˘ng saak 一等賜樂) and banquets for retired government officials called kiroyo˘n 耆老宴. Ch'o˘yongmu was performed in the outside court as well and in this case, its accompaning music was consisted of Samhyo˘n yukkak 三絃六角 like other folk dance format in the late Choso˘n dynasty. Since such accompaning music was also used for Ch'o˘yongmu in the court baquest in the late Choso˘n dynasty, therefore, there became no distinct differences for Ch'o˘yongmu accompaniments between in the court and outside. Hyangdang kyoju 鄕唐交奏 that newly appeared to accompany Ch'o˘yongmu in the reign of King Sukchong, however, became used as accompaning music for various court dances such as Mugo 舞鼓, Kwangsumu 廣袖舞, Ch'o˘msumu 尖袖舞, Hyangbal 饗? and so on during the reign of King Sunjo 純祖 (1800-1834). In the late Choso˘n dynasty, Wo˘nmugok 圓舞曲 became the main accompaning music for court dances, and Hyangdang kyoju was performed at ceremonies that were not related to court dance. Because of this, it is not correct to say that the Hyangdang kyoju in the late Choso˘n dynasty was used as the same function as it performing at present. In conclusion, the characteristic of accompaniment music for Ch'o˘yongmu was winds ensemble that was frequently used in the late Choso˘n dynasty, while wind and string ensemble was consistently used for other royal court dances during the Choso˘n dynasty.

        This study was conducted to investigate the pasting properties of waxy corn ‘Ilmichal’ during ripening with different sowing date. Starch content of Ilmichal was increased as matured (p<0.05). Analysis of pasting properties with waxy corn starch using a rapid visco analyser (RVA) showed linear changes in peak viscosity, trough viscosity, final viscosity, breakdown and consistency according to ripening. There were significantly positive correlation between starch content of Ilmichal and peak viscosity (0.39*), trough viscosity (0.58***), final viscosity (0.58***), and consistency (0.57**). Differential scanning calorimerty (DSC). The enthalpy of gelatinization was increased as ripening. But onset and peak temperature were decreased. There were significantly positive correlation between starch content of Ilmichal and onset temperature (0.44*), peak temperature (0.38*), and completion temperature (0.59***), on the other hand, crude protein content presented significantly negative correlation between completion temperature (-0.41*).

      • 캡슐소재에 따른 멸치어유의 미세캡슐화

        Microencapsulation of anchovy oil with different wall materials such as sodium alginate. chitosan and β-cyclodextrin was investigated. Microencapsulation was accomplished by ejecting an oil/water emulsion into a dispersion fluid under high pressure through an orifice. As a dispersion fluid, 0.2% calcium lactate was appropriate for sodium alginate, while 0.18 sodium hydroxide for chitosan in terms of capsule size and distribution, and emulsion stability. β -cyclodextrin formed inclusion complex with anchovy oil. The microcapsules were stored at 22 and 30℃ for 8 days, and their stability was tested. The acid value remained unchanged and the peroxide value was not detected.

        Based on the yearly research trends of edible oil and fat, a study on acidification degree and oxidation stability of an anti-oxidizer has been progressed since 1970's and a study on composition of T.G and fatty acid was prosperous in 1980's and has been progressing until 1990' s. A study on replacement for oil and fat, hardened oil, and mixed oil has been progressed actively from the beginning of 1990's, because a development of processing technology for edible oil and fat, a development of specific replacement for oil and fat, and an application of a natural anti-oxidizer became imminent. An applicable technology of the natural anti-oxidizer is imminent as the price of the natural anti-oxidizer is usually higher than that of synthetic anti-oxidizer and the natural anti-oxidizer also has lower efficiency. A study on flavor stability has progressed actively in 1990's and a study on metabolism and nutrition of fat, and production and quality of edible oil has been progressing since 1980' s steadily. According to the yearly reserch frequency of the main edible oil and fat, the research has been made in the order of frequency of soybean oil, perilla oil sesame oil, corn oil, rice bran oil and palm oil. Especially, a research on soybean reserch has been made in the order of frequency of soybean oil, perilla oil sesame oil. corn oil, rice bran oil and palm oil. Especially. a research on soybean oil has started from 1970's and a reserch on perilla oil and sesame oil has been established since 1980' s steadily. Besides, as development of replacement for edible oil became imminent, wheat germ oil, lineseed oil, camellia oil, garlic seasoning oil, and etc have been reserched and developed.
