      • Early treatment of anterior open bite

        Mhd Hassan Albogha,Ichiro Takahashi,Mhd Naser Sawan 대한치과교정학회 2015 대한치과교정학회지 Vol.45 No.1

Objective: This prospective clinical study aims to determine the differences between two treatment modalities for anterior open bite in growing patients. The treatment modalities involved the use of magnetic bite-blocks (MBBs) or rapid molar intruders (RMIs) applied with posterior bite-blocks. Methods: Fifteen consecutive patients with a mean age of 11.2 (standard deviation [SD] = 1.6) years and a mean open bite of ?3.9 mm were treated with MBBs. Another 15 consecutive patients with a mean age of 10.9 (SD = 1.8) years and a mean open bite of ?3.8 mm were treated with RMIs applied on bite-blocks. Cephalometric radiographs were obtained before (T1) and immediately after appliance removal (T2). The treatments lasted four months, during which the appliances were cemented to the teeth. The morphological changes were measured in each group and compared using logistic regression analysis. Results: The MBB group exhibited significantly greater decreases in SNA angle, ANB angle, overjet, and maxillary incisor angle (p < 0.05). The MBBs induced greater effects on the maxilla and maxillary dentition. The MBBs restrained maxillary forward growth and retracted the maxillary incisors more effectively than did the RMIs. Consequently, changes in the intermaxillary relationships and overjets were more distinct in the MBB group. Conclusions: The anteroposterior differences between the appliances suggest that MBBs should be preferred for the treatment of patients with Class II open bites and maxillary incisor protrusions.

      • Hybrid Sine-Spiral Dynamic Algorithm for Dynamic Modelling of a Flexible Manipulator

Nurul Amira Mhd Rizal,Shuhairie Mohammad,Ahmad Azwan Abd Razak,Mohd Falfazli Mat Jusof,Ahmad Nor Kasruddin Nasir,Mohd Ashraf Ahmad,Addie Irawan Hashim 제어로봇시스템학회 2019 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2019 No.10

This paper presents a newly developed algorithm formulated based on a synergy between a mathematical sine equation and a spiral equation. The sine formula is taken from Sine-Cosine Algorithm (SCA) while the spiral equation is adopted from Spiral Dynamic Algorithm (SDA). The synergy combines a deterministic approach from SDA and a random approach from SCA. In the hybrid strategy, all agents update their position either via sine based or spiral based position update equation. The proposed hybrid algorithm is tested in comparison to SDA and SCA on various benchmark functions. A convergence plot and accuracy achievement are recorded and compared. In term of a real world application, the algorithm is applied to optimize a parametric model of an end point acceleration of a flexible manipulator robot. Result of the benchmark functions test shows that the proposed algorithm significantly improves the accuracy of both SCA and SDA. Result of the modelling shows that the SCA, SDA and the proposed algorithm have successfully modelled the end point acceleration.

Siti Munirah Mhd Yusof,Kok Keong Lau,Azmi Mohd Shariff,Wee Horng Tay,Nur Farhana Ajua Mustafa,Serene Sow Mun Lock 한국공업화학회 2019 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.79 No.-

High frequency ultrasonic-assisted absorption in a batch system has shown significant enhancement forCO2 removal. Nevertheless, its performance in continuous mode has yet to be studied. A novel continuoushigh frequency ultrasonic contactor system for CO2 capture has been developed to study the effect of gasflow rate (15–25 SLPM), liquidflow rate (0.1–0.5 SLPM), pressure (10–50 bar) and voltage (0–30 V) on theabsorption performance. A validated quadratic model was developed, and the optimum condition wasidentified using central composite design coupled with response surface methodology. Based on theresults, current system demonstrated better absorption performance as compared to other contactors.

      • Health and Safety: Fatigue among Seafarers in Malaysia

        FIRDAUS NOR,SITI MARSILA MHD RUSLAN,KASYPI MOKHTAR,N.H.M. SALLEH,J. JEEVAN,A. H. NGAH,R. M. HANAFIAH 국제이네비해양경제학회 2019 International Journal of e-Navigation and Maritime Vol.12 No.1

Fatigue is not a trivial issue and needs much attention. On the other hand, fatigue among seafarers could lead to accidents at sea due to their inability and ineffectiveness in carrying out their work. Some were caused by sleepiness and lack of vigour, which, could not only affect their safety but compromising on other seafarers as well. In this study, factors that cause fatigue among seafarers were examined analytically and their quantitative priorities were determined using Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Additionally, the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) is used to identify the best alternatives in minimizing fatigue among seafarers. For this, data is collected through interview involving those working in academic and maritime industry with more than 5 years of experiences in dealing with seafarers. The AHP result shows that fitness is the main cause that could affect fatigue on seafarers’ reliability. Besides, TOPSIS result shows that a well-maintained shipboard is the best way in sustaining seafarers’ energy. In sum, fatigue among seafarers could influence on safety and may lead towards precarious health issue over a long-term.

Production of hydrogen-rich syngas and multiwalled carbon nanotubes by biogas decomposition over zirconia supported iron catalysts

Manoj Pudukudy,Zahira Yaakob,Khaleeda Mhd Syahri,Qingming Jia,Shaoyun Shan 한국공업화학회 2020 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.84 No.-

A set of Fe/ZrO2 catalysts were successfully synthesized by a facile urea-assisted solid-state combustionmethod, and their catalytic test was evaluated for the thermal decomposition of undiluted-biogas intohydrogen-rich syngas and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). The as-prepared catalysts werecharacterized by X-Ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning and Transmission electron microscopy (SEM andTEM), Nitrogen-physisorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Temperature programmedreduction analyses. The iron was found in the form of hematite and metallic-iron in the fresh andreduced catalysts respectively. A suitable metal-support interaction due to thefine surface dispersion ofiron species on ZrO2 was observed in the catalysts. The N2-physisorption analysis indicated the reducedsurface area of the catalysts after iron loading. However, it does not influence the catalytic efficiency sincethe metal amount and metal-support interaction was determined to play the main role. The Fe/ZrO2catalysts exhibited improved catalytic efficiency. With increasing the amount of iron and increasing thereaction temperature, the CH4 and CO2 conversions were increased significantly. A highest CH4 and CO2conversions of 92% and 89% respectively, with an H2/CO ratio of2.25 were obtained for the 50%Fe/ZrO2catalyst at 900 C. The enhanced catalytic performance could be attributed to thefine-surface dispersionof iron-nanocrystals on ZrO2. Moreover, the MWCNTs were characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM and Ramananalyses for their structural properties.

Simultaneous Spectrophotometric Determination of Copper, Nickel, and Zinc Using 1-(2-Thiazolylazo)-2-Naphthol in the Presence of Triton X-100 Using Chemometric Methods

        Low, Kah Hin,Zain, Sharifuddin Md.,Abas, Mhd. Radzi,Misran, Misni,Mohd, Mustafa Ali Korean Chemical Society 2009 대한화학회지 Vol.53 No.6

Multivariate models were developed for the simultaneous spectrophotometric determination of copper (II), nickel (II) and zinc (II) in water with 1-(2-thiazolylazo)-2-naphthol as chromogenic reagent in the presence of Triton X-100. To overcome the drawback of spectral interferences, principal component regression (PCR) and partial least square (PLS) multivariate calibration approaches were applied. Performances were validated with several test sets, and their results were then compared. In general, no significant difference in analytical performance between PLS and PCR models. The root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) using three components for $Cu^{2+}$, $Ni^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ were 0.018, 0.010, 0.011 ppm, respectively. Figures of merit such as sensitivity, analytical sensitivity, limit of detection (LOD) were also estimated. High reliability was achieved when the proposed procedure was applied to simultaneous determination of $Cu^{2+}$, $Ni^{2+}$ and $Zn^{2+}$ in synthetic mixture and tap water.

Organizational Justice, Job Satisfaction and Islamic Spirituality among Malaysian SME Employees

Abdul Halim Bin Abdul MANAF,Mohamed SULAIMAN,Suhaimi Mhd SARIF,Abdul Kadir OTHMAN 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.1

The role of Islamic spirituality in the relationship between organizational justice (OJ) and job satisfaction is investigated in this study (JS). The three components of OJ in this study are distributive, procedural, and interactional justice. Islamic spirituality (IS) is founded on piety values, and IS was used as a moderating factor in this study to alter the link between OJ and JS among Malaysian employees of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Four hundred sets of the questionnaire were issued using a simple random selection procedure, yielding 276 completed responses, suggesting a 69 percent response rate. Multiple Linear Regression Analysis (MLRA) was used to test the proposed relationships. The findings of the study demonstrate that the three OJ aspects have a considerable impact on employee JS, indicating the significance of these elements in ensuring that employees are satisfied with their jobs. IS, on the other hand, had no effect on the link between the OJ dimensions and JS. This research has added to the existing body of knowledge by giving further empirical evidence on the impact of OJ aspects on employee JS in SMEs, notably in Malaysia.

      • Sine based Bacterial Foraging Algorithm for a Dynamic Modelling of a Twin Rotor System

Shuhairie Mohammad,Mohd Falfazli Mat Jusof,Nurul Amira Mhd Rizal,Ahmad Azwan Abd Razak,Ahmad Nor Kasruddin Nasir,Raja Mohd Taufika Raja Ismail,Mohd Ashraf Ahmad 제어로봇시스템학회 2019 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2019 No.10

This paper introduces a sine-based position update strategy into Bacterial Foraging Algorithm (BFA). In solving many optimization problems, BFA produces an acceptable accurate solution but it presents a slow convergence speed towards the global solution. On the other hand, a sine-based position update strategy from the Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA) utilizes an elitism in its position update equation. The elitism strategy contains a promising solution that guiding search agents toward global optima with relatively a faster speed. In this proposed technique, the sine-based position update strategy is incorporated prior to the reproduction phase of the BFA. With the consideration of the advantages of the elitism, it helps the BFA to converge faster and hence acquires better accuracy of the final solution. The proposed algorithm is tested on several CEC2014 benchmark functions that have various fitness landscapes and features. For solving a real world problem, it is applied to optimize a dynamic model of a Twin Rotor System. Result of the test shows that the proposed algorithm significantly outperforms the original BFA for both convergence speed and accuracy performances. On the other hand, result of the modelling shows that the proposed algorithm acquires the dynamic model for the Twin Rotor System with a significant smaller error.

New Azafluorenone Derivative and Antibacterial Activities of Alphonsea cylindrica Barks

        Munirah Abdul Talip,Saripah Salbiah Syed Abdul Azziz,Chee Fah Wong,Khalijah Awang,Humera Naz,Yuhanis Mhd Bakri,Mohamad Syahrizal Ahmad,Marc Litaudon 한국생약학회 2017 Natural Product Sciences Vol.23 No.3

A phytochemical study of Alphonsea cylindrica King (unreported) has led to the isolation of six alkaloids. The compounds were identified as kinabaline (1; azafluorenone alkaloid), muniranine (2), O-methylmoschatoline (3; oxoaporphine alkaloid), lysicamine (4), atherospermidine (5) and N-methylouregidione (6; 4, 5-dioxoaporphine alkaloid). The structures of the isolated compounds were determined based on the spectroscopic techniques and by comparison with data reported in the literature. Alkaloid 2 was isolated as a new derivative of azafluorenone while alkaloids 1, 3 - 6 were isolated for the first time from Alphonsea species. In addition, alkaloid 3 and 4 showed inhibition zone against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus cereus in disc diffusion test. The minimum inhibition concentration (MIC) values of lysicamine (4) against S. aureus, B. cereus and P. aeruginosa were found to be smaller than O-methylmoschatoline (3). Therefore, the reported antibacterial activity showed the potential of this plant as natural antibacterial agent and supported the documented traditional use of Alphonsea sp. in the treatment of diarrhea and fever.
