        현 전세계의 전략 지정학적인 상황과 해양환경에 관한 해군의 영향이 금일 본인이 발표할 기저가 될 것이다. 외삽 요소들에 관해 밝혀진 장래의 가망이 그 미래의 함축성으로 인하여 더욱 놀랍게 나타남을 알지만 오직 구체적이고 확실한 경향만을 고려했다. 동적이며 분쟁이 잦은 이 세계에서 그리고 오직 일정했던 특성 특히 정치적이거나 전략적이거나 혹은 과학기술적 상황에 관한 특성이 변하고 있는 이 세계에서 무슨 일이 일어날 것인가를 예측하기 위하여 고정된 틀을 정해두는 것은 비현실적이고 주제 넘는 일이라고 본인은 생각한다. 소련 제국주의는 능동적으로 편입될 수 있는 새로운 영향권으로 하여금 즉각 소련의 이념을 따르도록 추구해 오고 있다. 이러한 물리적 팽창주의는 단지 이데올로기인 체 하던 초기에 세계에 대한 그들의 패권적 지배력을 신장시키기 위한 기회를 그들에게 제공해 주고 있는 것이다. 지난 수십년간 소련은 전복과 테러 행위를 포함하여 국제 정치 무대에서 직접, 간접적인 행동을 실행해 왔다.

        The nuclear fuel cycle code ANICCA: Verification and a case study for the phase out of Belgian nuclear power with minor actinide transmutation

        The Nuclear Fuel Cycle Code “ANICCA” has been developed by SCK•CEN to answer particular questions about the Belgian nuclear fleet. However, the wide range of capabilities of the code make it also useful for international or regional studies that include advanced technologies and strategies of cycle. This paper shows the main features of the code and the facilities that can be simulated. Additionally, a comparison between several codes and ANICCA has also been made to verify the performance of the code by means of a simulation proposed in the last NEA (OECD) Benchmark Study. Finally, a case study of the Belgian nuclear fuel cycle phase out has been carried out to show the possible impact of the transmutation of the minor actinides on the nuclear waste by the use of an Accelerator Driven System also known as ADS. Results show that ANICCA accomplishes its main purpose of simulating the scenarios giving similar outcomes to other codes. Regarding the case study, results show a reduction of more than 60% of minor actinides in the Belgian nuclear cycle when using an ADS, reducing significantly the radiotoxicity and decay heat of the high-level waste and facilitating its management.

        Experimental validation of the seismic analysis methodology for free-standing spent fuel racks

        Spent fuel racks are steel structures used in the storage of the spent fuel removed from the nuclear powerreactor. Rack units are submerged in the depths of the spent fuel pool to keep the fuel cool. Their freestandingdesign isolates their bases from the pool floor reducing structural stresses in case of seismicevent. However, these singular features complicate their seismic analysis which involves a transientdynamic response with geometrical nonlinearities and fluid-structure interactions. An accurate estimationof the response is essential to achieve a safe pool layout and a reliable structural design. Ananalysis methodology based on the hydrodynamic mass concept and implicit integration algorithms wasdeveloped ad-hoc, but some dispersion of results still remains. In order to validate the analysis methodology,vibration tests are carried out on a reduced scale mock-up of a 2-rack system. The two rackmockups are submerged in free-standing conditions inside a rigid pool tank loaded with fake fuel assembliesand subjected to accelerations on a unidirectional shaking table. This article compares theexperimental data with the numerical outputs of a finite element model built in ANSYS Mechanical. Thein-phase motion of both units is highlighted and the water coupling effect is detailed. Results show agood agreement validating the methodology.

        제2차세계대전이 종료되었을 때 전 유럽의 절반을 차지한 막강한 승자는 소련이었다. 미국은 핵무기의 독점주의에 의존하여 1950년대 세계지배권을 놓고 전개된 냉전을 여유있게 수행하였다. 그 당시엔 미국이 막강한 방위 및 공격무기를 보유하고 있었으며 따라서 자신의 안보는 위협받지 아니하였다. 그러한 상황에서 미국은 소련으로 하여금 그 팽창주의 목표를 추구하며, 핵무기의 개발에 박차를 가할 수 있도록 허용하였다. 이제 소련은 미국의 우위와 소련에 대한 억제능력을 무력화시켜 버렸다. 소련의 핵개발과 지속적인 성장은 미국의 핵억제력이 부과한 구속력을 종료시키면서, 처음엔 미국과 균형을 이루었고, 다음엔 미국을 압도하게 되었다. 동시에, 통치상의 이유와 지리적인 이유로 말미암아 억제력의 신속도는 소련에 유리하게 되었다. 사실 소련은 어떠한 입법기구에 의한 방해도 받음이 없이 핵무기의 사용을 결정할 수 있는 능력을 가지고 있다. 소련의 광대한 지리적 조건, 그리고 그 광대한 지역에 핵시설물들을 산개시킬 수 있는 조건은 미국의 조건보다 보부정격을 보다 용이하게 흡수할 수 있도록 해준다.

      • Integrity, Orbit Determination and Time Synchronisation Algorithms for Galileo

        Galileo is the European Global Navigation Satellite System, under civilian control, and consists on a constellation of medium Earth orbit satellites and its associated ground infrastructure. Galileo will provide to their users highly accurate global positioning services and their associated integrity information. The elements in charge of the computation of Galileo navigation and integrity information are the OSPF (Orbit Synchronization Processing Facility) and IPF (Integrity Processing Facility), within the Galileo Ground Mission Segment (GMS). Navigation algorithms play a key role in the provision of the Galileo Mission, since they are responsible for computing the essential information the users need to calculate their position: the satellite ephemeris and clock offsets. Such information is generated in the Galileo Ground Mission Segment and broadcast by the satellites within the navigation signal, together with the expected a-priori accuracy (SISA: Signal-In-Space Accuracy), which is the parameter that in fault-free conditions makes the overbounding the predicted ephemeris and clock model errors for the Worst User Location. In parallel, the integrity algorithms of the GMS are responsible of providing a real-time monitoring of the satellite status with timely alarm messages in case of failures. The accuracy of the integrity monitoring system is characterized by the SISMA (Signal In Space Monitoring Accuracy), which is also broadcast to the users through the integrity message.

        Utilization of by-products of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. as alternative sources for the extraction of high-quality pectin

        The by-products of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (HsL), obtained after soaking or decoction of the calyces ofColima and Sudan cultivars, were used for pectin extraction. After soaking, the wastes of both cultivars gave higheryields of pectin than those obtained by decoction. Thepectin of the wastes by soaking presented high methoxylgroups, galacturonic acid content, viscosity and gellingcapacity. Pectin of this treatment also exhibited bands inthe regions of 1750 cm-1 and 1630 cm-1 that representsthe C=O stretching vibrations of methyl ester and theamounts and degree of esterification of the HsL pectin. Interestingly, the pectin retained the typical red color offresh HsL calyces. The amounts of anthocyanins andascorbic acid of pectin did not show effects againstpathogenic microorganisms. Nonetheless, pectin of theSudan HsL wastes obtained by soaking, exhibited higherproperties than those of the citric pectin, thus, demonstratingits potential for industrial applications.

        The Role of Information Processing Speed in Clinical and Social Support Variables of Patients with Multiple Sclerosis

        Background and Purpose Information processing speed is one of the most impaired cognitive functions in multiple sclerosis (MS). There are two tests widely used for evaluating information processing speed: the Symbol Digit Modalities Test (SDMT) and the Paced Auditory Serial Addition Test (PASAT). To analyze the relationship between processing speed and the clinical and social support variables of patients with MS. Methods A group of 47 patients with relapsing-remitting MS was studied, 31 were women and 16, men. Age: 39.04±13.17, years of schooling: 13.00±3.87, Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS): 2.78±1.81, and disease evolution: 8.07±6.26. Instruments of measure; processing speed: SDMT, PASAT, clinical variables: EDSS, Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), Beck’s Depression Inventory II (BDI-II), and social support: Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Survey (MOS). Results Significant correlations were found between information processing speed and psychiatric, motor disability and social support variables. The SDMT correlated significantly and negatively with BDI-II, FSS, EDSS, and MOS (p<0.05), whereas the PASAT correlated negatively with FSS and positively with MOS (p<0.05). Information processing speed appeared as the performance predictor of these variables. The SDMT produced significant changes in EDSS (R2= 0.343, p=0.000); FSS (R2=0.109, p=0.031); BDI-II (R2=0.124, p=0.018), and MOS (R2=between 0.212 and 0.379, p<0.05). Conclusions Information processing speed has influence on the clinical variables and the social support of patients with MS. These aspects are important to bear in mind for therapeutic approach.

        Eugenol, citral, and hexanal, alone or in combination with heat, affect viability, biofilm formation, and swarming on Shiga-toxin-producing Escherichia coli

        Shiga-toxin-producing Escherichia coli strainsare pathogenic for humans and cause mild to severe illnesses. In this study, the antimicrobial effect of citral,eugenol, and hexanal in combination with heat shock (HS)was evaluated in terms of the growth, biofilm formation,swarming, and expression of virulence genes of STECserotypes (O157:H7, O103, O111, and O26). Eugenol wasthe most effective compound against the growth of E. colistrains (MBC = 0.58 to 0.73 mg/mL), followed by citral(MBC = 0.86 to 1.26 mg/mL) and hexanal (MBC = 2.24to 2.52 mg/mL). Biofilm formation and swarming motilityhave great variability between STEC strains. Naturalcompounds—alone or combined with HS—inhibited biofilmformation; however, swarming motility was inducedby most treatments. The expression of the studied genesduring biofilm formation and swarming under naturalantimicrobials was affected but not in a uniform pattern. These treatments could be used to control contamination ofSTEC and inhibit biofilm formation.
