        Bilateral origin of superior cerebellar arteries from the posterior cerebral arteries, and clues to its embryologic basis

        The superior cerebellar artery is the most consistent branch of the basilar artery and arises near the bifurcation of the basilar artery. A bilateral origin of the superior cerebellar arteries from the posterior cerebral arteries has been rarely reported in the literature. Reporting variations in brain vessels is important for neurosurgeons to safely and confidently treat pathologies in this region. We report on a specimen with a bilateral origin to the superior cerebellar artery from the posterior cerebral artery and discuss the embryogenesis of this rare variation.

        The occurrence of herbicide-resistant weeds has boosted interest in the use of crop allelopathy as a potential alternative to herbicides for weed control in rice (Oryza sativa). The phytotoxic compounds that are released by rice could help to enhance its competitive ability and improve weed management.This study aimed to screen rice genotypes for phytotoxic activity, quantify the amount of momilactone B in various rice tissues, and identify the potential parental lines for quantitative trait locus analysis. Therefore, a total of 41 cultivars from germplasm collections was evaluated for their effects. Significant differences were found among the rice cultivars in their ability to reduce the germination, root growth, and root dry weight accumulation ofAlisma plantago-aquatica.The leaf extract was the most inhibitory to germination. Out of the five cultivars that were tested, momilactone B was detected in four of them: Marateli, Kizilirmak, Karadeniz, and Kiziltan. Karadeniz and Kiziltan were identified as the rice cultivars with a high momilactone B content in the tissues and therefore they could be used in breeding programs to enhance the phytotoxic potential of rice.The development of a rice cultivar with proven allelopathic characteristics could provide an environmentally friendly and low-cost approach for the control of A. plantago-aquatica.

        Resistance Response of Tomato Cultivars and Rootstocks Carrying the Mi-1.2 Gene to Isolates of Meloidogyne arenaria, M. incognita, and M. javanica at Two Different Growing Periods

        The reaction of four tomato cultivars and four rootstocks, carrying the Mi-1.2 gene, to differentisolates of Meloidogyne arenaria (4 isolates), M. incognita (2 isolates), and M. javanica (2 isolates)were determined in pot experiments conducted in a non-temperature controlled greenhouse. Tomatocultivars and rootstocks were screened by PCR-based co-dominant SCAR marker Mi23 for thezygosity states of the Mi-1 locus. All resistant tomato cultivars and the rootstock ‘Comfort’ wereclassified as heterozygous resistant (Mimi), whereas the rootstocks ‘Arazi’, ‘Beaufort’, and ‘Kingkong’were homozygous resistant (MiMi) at the Mi-1 locus. The response of resistant genotypes to isolatesof Meloidogyne was assessed 8 and 16 weeks after inoculation with 3,000 nematode eggs for shortand long growing periods, respectively. Nematode reproduction on resistant cultivars was similar orhigher than on resistant rootstocks for all tested Meloidogyne isolates in the short period experiment(p ˂ 0.05), but not in the long period experiment. In both experiments, all tomato cultivars androotstocks responded as highly resistant (reproduction index ˂ 10%) to all tested Meloidogyneisolates except for M. incognita A-11. Of the resistant genotypes inoculated with M. incognitaA-11, in both experiments, the cultivars ‘Crisol’ and ‘Adamset’ were moderately resistant, whereasthe rootstocks ‘Beaufort’ and ‘Comfort’ were highly resistant. ‘Alsancak’, ‘Esin’, ‘Arazi’, and‘Kingkong’ showed reduced resistance in the long growing period and responded as moderatelyresistant to M. incognita A-11. These findings showed that the resistance response of tomatocultivars and rootstocks to Meloidogyne isolates varies depending on the isolates of Meloidogyne orthe length of the growing period.

        Bilateral elongated mandibular coronoid process in an Anatolian skull

        Elongation or hyperplasia of coronoid process of mandible is rare condition characterized by abnormal bone development which cause malocclusion and the limited mouth opening. In this study, in an Anatolian skull, a case of bilateral elongation of mandibular coronoid process was presented. Levandoski panographic analysis was performed on the panoramic radiographie to determine the hyperplasia of the coronoid process. The right condylar process was exactly hyperplastic. The measurements of Kr-Go/Cd-Go were 95.10 mm/79.03 mm on right side and 97.53 mm/87.80 mm on left side. The ratio of Kr-Go/Cd-Go on the right side was 1.20. Elongated coronoid process is one of the factors cause mandibular hypomobility, it as reported here might lead to limited mouth opening. The knowledge of this variation or abnormality can be useful for the radiologist and surgeons and prevent misdiagnosis.
