Low-Voltage Tunable Pseudo-Differential Transconductor with High Linearity
Juan Antonio Gómez,Melita Pennisi,Antonio Lopez Martin,Ramon González Carvajal,Jaime Ramírez-Angulo,Manuel Pedro Carrasco 한국전자통신연구원 2009 ETRI Journal Vol.31 No.5
A novel tunable transconductor is presented. Input transistors operate in the triode region to achieve programmable voltage-to-current conversion. These transistors are kept in the triode region by a novel negative feedback loop which features simplicity, low voltage requirements, and high output resistance. A linearity analysis is carried out which demonstrates how the proposed transconductance tuning scheme leads to high linearity in a wide transconductance range. Measurement results for a 0.5 μm CMOS implementation of the transconductor show a transconductance tuning range of more than a decade (15 μA/V to 165 μA/V) and a total harmonic distortion of -67 dB at 1 MHz for an input of 1 Vpp and a supply voltage of 1.8 V.

Traditional Medicinal System (TMS) is one of the centuries-old practices and long-serving companions to the human kind to fight against disease and to lead a healthy life. Every indigenous people have been using their unique approaches of TMS practice where among, the Chinese, Indian and African TMSs are world-wide renowned. India has a unique Indian System of Medicines (ISM) consisting of Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, Naturopathy and Homoeopathy. Siddhars are the saints as well as the eminent scholars, who have attained Ashta-mahasiddhi [Tamil: (Ashta-Eight; Mahasiddhi-Power)] or enlightment. They have postulated, practiced, immensely contributed and have established the concept of the Tamil medicinal system called Siddha System of Medicine (SSM). From ancient time, SSM has flourished and has been widely practiced in the southern part of India particularly in Tamil Nadu. The induction of the modern medicinal system has immensely influenced the existence of SSM and has made the SSM principles and practices undervalued/extinct. However, at present, still a considerable group of people are using the SSM as a basic health-care modality. In this context, the present scrutiny deals with the TMS history, its significance with a special reference to SSM history, Siddhars, the basic concept of SSM, its diagnostic procedures, materia medica and treatment. Conclusively, Siddha is one of the most ancient indigenous health practices despite its several thorny challenges and issues, which needs to be flagged effectively and to be preserved and revitalized in the international arena in the near future.

Literature on intraoperative neuro monitoring (IONM) during endocrine surgery have increased over recent years. A comprehensive understanding of the role of IONM for prevention of nerve injuries is critical to maximize safety during surgery of the anterior compartment of the neck. Neuromonitoring techniques are currently considered safe technique and technology; however, albeit sporadically, have been reported some complications and related side effects using such methods. The complications described can be related to the electrodes positioned at the larynx, at the obstruction of the endotracheal tube, the drugs used for anesthesia and the effects of electrical stimulation on nerve structures and systemic levels. This review will explore the safety issues of IONM to improve the outcomes among patients undergoing monitored thyroidectomy.
