      • Microchips and their Significance in Isolation of Circulating Tumor Cells and Monitoring of Cancers

Sahmani, Mehdi,Vatanmakanian, Mousa,Goudarzi, Mehdi,Mobarra, Naser,Azad, Mehdi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.3

In micro-fluid systems, fluids are injected into extremely narrow polymer channels in small amounts such as micro-, nano-, or pico-liter scales. These channels themselves are embedded on tiny chips. Various specialized structures in the chips including pumps, valves, and channels allow the chips to accept different types of fluids to be entered the channel and along with flowing through the channels, exert their effects in the framework of different reactions. The chips are generally crystal, silicon, or elastomer in texture. These highly organized structures are equipped with discharging channels through which products as well as wastes of the reactions are secreted out. A particular advantage regarding the use of fluids in micro-scales over macro-scales lies in the fact that these fluids are much better processed in the chips when they applied as micro-scales. When the laboratory is miniaturized as a microchip and solutions are injected on a micro-scale, this combination makes a specialized construction referred to as "lab-on-chip". Taken together, micro-fluids are among the novel technologies which further than declining the costs; enhancing the test repeatability, sensitivity, accuracy, and speed; are emerged as widespread technology in laboratory diagnosis. They can be utilized for monitoring a wide spectrum of biological disorders including different types of cancers. When these microchips are used for cancer monitoring, circulatory tumor cells play a fundamental role.

      • Incorporating a Multivariate Approach in Taekwondo Talent Identification by SAFIR Software

( Mehdi Shahbazi ),( Mehdi Naadi Ghafouri Yazdi ),( Sima Dastamooz ) 국제태권도학회 2017 International Symposium for Taekwondo Studies Vol.2017 No.-

Purpose: Talent identification is defined as predicting performance by evaluating physical, psychological, and social features as well as technical ability. What athletes need in order to progress in Taekwondo is to be able to evaluate their current situations and somehow predict how the sport will affect their lives. From this, they can improve their possibilities of success. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to determine if a multivariate approach in Taekwondo talent identification by SAFIR software can improve athletes’ lives after their competitive careers. Methods: SAFIR software is composed three parts: 1) the evaluation of health indexes, 2) sport talent identification, and 3) and the comparison of subjects with elite athletes. Results: In part one (evaluating health indexes) of this study, subject’s health situation was determined in a report that combines: height, weight, computing standard weight, height growth rate, the level of total body’s water, adult height, body type (ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph), Basal metabolic rate (BMR), waist-hip ratio (WHR), and body mass index (BMI). The target group in part two (sport talent identification) was 8-16 years old individuals. One of the most important features that this software offers is the ability to analyze athletes according sports according to their individual characteristics. In this part, anthropometrics features; physiological indexes; and motor perceptual features like personality, speed, agility, flexibility, coordination, balance, and reaction time were examined. In part three, individuals were compared to elite athletes. The data obtained during this step allows athletes to recognize the characteristics and strengths they share with elite athletes. Conclusions: SAFIR’s software allows youth athletes in physical education and sports programs to achieve their desired results. The Islamic Republic of Iran Taekwondo Federation is currently using SAFIR software in all of its talent identification programs.

The Impact of Depression, Personality, and Mental Health on Outcomes of Total Knee Arthroplasty

        Mehdi Moghtadaei,Ali Yeganeh,Nima Hosseinzadeh,Amir Khazanchin,Mehdi Moaiedfar,Atefeh Ghanbari Jolfaei,Shirin Nasiri 대한정형외과학회 2020 Clinics in Orthopedic Surgery Vol.12 No.4

Background: Precise assessment of preoperative mental health and psychological determinants may be useful in identifying patients at risk for poor postoperative outcomes of total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of psychological status and physical and mental health on the outcome of patients undergoing TKA. Methods: Fifty-two patients undergoing unilateral TKA were assessed preoperatively with Oxford Happiness Inventory, Eysenck Personality Inventory, 12-item short form health survey (SF-12), and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) for evaluating depression, personality traits, physical and mental health, and function, respectively. At 1 year after surgery, health-related quality of life (HRQL) and function were assessed using the SF-12 and KOOS. Results: HRQL and function of all personality traits increased significantly after TKA, without significant difference among them. Extroversion and neuroticism did not have significant correlation with subjective well-being, HRQL, and function before and after surgery. Subjective well-being and the baseline physical and mental health scores were correlated strongly and directly with postoperative physical component summary, mental component summary, and KOOS scores and their improvement. Among many factors that significantly affected the outcomes of TKA, the only independent predictor of physical, mental, and functional outcome was depression. Conclusions: Outcomes of surgery were not significantly different among diverse personality traits. Patients with less depressive symptoms and higher baseline mental and physical scores had significantly greater improvement in HRQL after surgery. The only independent factor affecting the physical, mental, and functional outcome was depression.

Analysis of a functionally graded nanocomposite sandwich beam considering porosity distribution on variable elastic foundation using DQM: Buckling and vibration behaviors

Mohammad Mehdi Nejadi,Mehdi Mohammadimehr 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2020 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.25 No.3

In the present study, according to the important of porosity in low specific weight in comparison of high stiffness of carbon nanotubes reinforced composite, buckling and free vibration analysis of sandwich composite beam in two configurations, of laminates using differential quadrature method (DQM) is studied. Also, the effects of porosity coefficient and three types of porosity distribution on critical buckling load and natural frequency are discussed. It is shown the buckling loads and natural frequencies of laminate 1 are significantly larger than the results of laminate 2. When configuration 2 (the core is made of FRC) and laminate 1 ([0/90/0/45/90]s) are used, the first natural frequency rises noticeably. It is also demonstrated that the influence of the core height in the case of lower carbon volume fractions is negligible. Even though, when volume fraction of fiber increases, the critical buckling load enhances smoothly. It should be noticed the amount of decline has inverse relationship with the beam aspect ratio. Investigating three porosity patterns, beam with the distribution of porosity Type 2 has the maximum critical buckling load and first natural frequency. Among three elastic foundations (constant, linear and parabolic), buckling load and natural frequency in linear variation has the least amount. For all kind of elastic foundations, when the porosity coefficient increases, critical buckling load and natural frequency decline significantly.

      • Identification of a Novel Cassette Array in Integron-bearing Helicobacter Pylori Strains Isolated from Iranian Patients

Goudarzi, Mehdi,Seyedjavadi, Sima Sadat,Fazeli, Maryam,Roshani, Maryam,Azad, Mehdi,Heidary, Mohsen,Navidinia, Masoumeh,Goudarzi, Hossein Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.7

Helicobacter pylori as the second most common cause of gastric cancer in the world infects approximately half of the developed countries population and 80% of the population living in developing countries. Integrons as genetic reservoirs play major roles in dissemination of antimicrobial resistance genes. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study to report carriage of class 1 and 2 integrons and associated gene cassettes in H. pylori isolates from Iran. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Tehran among 110 patients with H. pylori infection. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) for H. pylori strains were assessed by the micro broth dilution method. Class 1 and 2 integrons were detected using PCR. In order to determine gene cassettes, amplified fragments were subjected to DNA sequencing of both amplicon strands. The prevalence of resistance to clarithromycin, metronidazole, clarithromycin, tetracycline, amoxicillin, rifampin, and levofloxacin were 68.2% (n=75), 25.5% (n=28), 24.5% (n=27), 19.1% (n=21), 18.2% (n=20) and 16.4% (n=18), respectively. Frequency of multidrug resistance among H. pylori isolates was 12.7%. Class 2 integron was detected in 50 (45.5%) and class 1 integron in 10 (9.1%) H. pylori isolates. The most predominant gene cassette arrays in class 2 integron-bearing H. pylori were included sat-era-aadA1, dfrA1-sat2-aadA1, blaoxa2 and, aadB whereas common gene cassette arrays in class 1 integron were aadB-aadA1-cmlA6, aacA4, blaoxa2, and catB3. The high frequency of class 2 integron and multidrug resistance in the present study should be considered as a warning for clinicians that continuous surveillance is necessary to prevent the further spread of resistant isolates.

Treatment of industrial wastewater contaminated with recalcitrant metal working fluids by the photo-Fenton process as post-treatment for DAF

Mohammad Mehdi Amin,Mohammad Mehdi Golbini Mofrad,Hamidreza Pourzamani,Seyed Mohammad Sebaradar,Karim Ebrahim 한국공업화학회 2017 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.45 No.-

Post-treatment of the industrial wastewater polluted by metalworkingfluids (MWFs) was performedusing the photo-Fenton process in following of the chemical addition-dissolved airflotation (CA-DAF)unit. Prior to this study, the CA-DAF was operated as full-scale by trial and error. For the photo-Fentonprocess as a pilot-scale batch reactor, initial pH value, FeSO4, and H2O2 concentrations were considered tostudy the effect of different operating conditions on chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total petroleumhydrocarbon (TPH) removals. This hybrid approach revealed removal efficiencies of 99.85% and 98.9% forCOD and TPH in the optimized photo-Fenton process as pH 3, FeSO4: 100 mg/l, and H2O2: 17.8 g/l. The CODdegradation results for the photo-Fenton system indicated that it could be wellfit using a pseudofirstorderkinetic model. By the GC–MS analysis of DAF and applied photo-Fenton effluents, a 73% removalrate of mono(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate was detected. It is likely favorable to increase the biodegradability. The cost analysis of this process for the consumed energy (6 kWh) and chemicals (0.01818 kg FeSO4 and17.15 kg H2O2) was estimated at approximately 26 $ per 1 m3 of DAF effluent. Generally, these resultsimply that the CA-DAF unit followed by photo-Fenton is an effective and practical method for treatingMWFs wastewater.
