      • Simulative Analysis of Hybrid Dispersion Compensation Based on 16x40 Gbps DWDM System Using RZ Modulator

        In this paper 16x40 Gbps hybrid dispersion compensation schemes with RZ modulation format over SSMF link based on DWDM optical system. Power losses substitute by the EDFA and DCF. Error probability is minimizing the system and optimizing the system performance for all users and channel using in system. The average total output power of the system is -53.65 dBm and the maximum Q-factor is 5.87 and range of BER is <10-12. The simulation results show that data transmission rate successfully transmitted with low cost effective infrastructure with good system performance.

        Red cell alloimmunization in pregnancy: a study from a premier tertiary care centre of Western India

        ObjectiveThe study was conducted to determine the frequency of alloimmunization to various blood group antibodies in pregnant women, and the risk of hemolytic disease in the fetus and newborn. MethodsAll antenatal women, irrespective of the period of gestation or obstetric history, were included, whereas those taking anti-D immune-prophylaxis or with a history of blood transfusion were excluded. Antibody screening and identification were performed using a Bio-Rad ID microtyping system. ResultsOf 2,084 antenatal females, 1,765 were D?antigen positive and 319 D?antigen negative. Sixty-five (3.119%) women alloimmunized. Out of 54 (2.591%) who had sensitized to D-antigen, 11 (0.527%) also sensitized to other antibodies. These 11 alloantibodies identified included: anti-M (n=6; 9.23%), anti-C (n=1; 3.076%), anti-E (n=1; 1.538%), anti-e (n=1; 1.538%), anti-Lewis (a) (n=1; 1.538%), and unspecified antibodies (n=1; 1.538%). Multiple antibodies were seen in four patients that combined: anti-D and anti-C (n=2; 3.076%), anti-e and anti-c (n=1; 1.538%), and anti-D and anti-G (n=1; 1.538%). ConclusionThe rate of alloimmunization in D-antigen-negative women was high. Apart from this, the alloimmunization rate in women with bad obstetric history was very high, at 8.1%. In developing countries such as India, universal antenatal antibody screening, though desirable, may not be justified at present, as the cost and infrastructure required would be immense because of the lower alloimmunization rates in RhD antigen-positive women. However, it is necessary to impose properly formulated protocols to screen pregnant women with bad obstetric history.

        Modeling the Spatial Distribution of Black-Necked Cranes in Ladakh Using Maximum Entropy

        The Tibetan Plateau is home to the only alpine crane species, the black-necked crane (Grus nigricollis). Conservation efforts are severely hampered by a lack of knowledge on the spatial distribution and breeding habitats of this species. The ecological niche modeling framework used to predict the spatial distribution of this species, based on the maximum entropy and occurrence record data, allowed us to generate a species-specific spatial distribution map in Ladakh, Trans-Himalaya, India. The model was created by assimilating species occurrence data from 486 geographical sites with 24 topographic and bioclimatic variables. Fourteen variables helped forecast the distribution of black-necked cranes by 96.2%. The area under the curve score for the model training data was high (0.98), indicating the accuracy and predictive performance of the model. Of the total study area, the areas with high and moderate habitat suitability for black-necked cranes were anticipated to be 8,156 km<sup>2</sup> and 6,759 km<sup>2</sup>, respectively. The area with high habitat suitability within the protected areas was 5,335 km<sup>2</sup>. The spatial distribution predicted using our model showed that the majority of speculated conservation areas bordered the existing protected areas of the Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary. Hence, we believe, that by increasing the current study area, we can account for these gaps in conservation areas, more effectively.

        Disruption of Endocytic Pathway Regulatory Genes Activates Autophagy in C. elegans

        Autophagy and endocytic pathway are highly regulated catabolic processes. Both processes are crucial for cell growth, development, differentiation, disease and homeostasis and exhibit membrane rearrangement for their function. Autophagy and endocytic pathway represent branches of the lysosomal digestive system, autophagy being responsible for degradation of cyto-plasmic components and endocytic pathway for degradation of exogenous substances. Here we report that autophagy is activated when endocytic pathway regulatory genes such as rab-5 and rabx-5 are disrupted. Defects in the ubiquitin binding domain of RABX-5 are critical in activating autophagy. We also observed that the elevated autophagy level does not contribute to lifespan extension of rabx-5 mutant. Our results suggest that autophagy may compensate for the endocytic pathway when regulatory genes for the endocytic pathway malfunction, providing a case of complementa-tion between two functionally related cellular processes.

        Adsorption of p-Nitrophenol by Surface Modified Carbons from Aqueous Solution

        Adsorption isotherms of p-nitrophenol from its aqueous solutions on two samples of activated carbon fibres and two samples of granulated activated carbons have been determined in the concentration range 40~800 mg/L (ppm). The surface of these carbons was modified by oxidation with nitric acid and oxygen gas, and by degassing the carbon surface under vacuum at temperatures of 400℃, 650℃ and 950℃. The oxidation of carbon enhances the amount of carbon-oxygen surface groups, while degassing decreases the amount of these surface groups. The adsorption of p-nitrophenol does not depend upon the surface area alone but appears to be influenced by the presence of oxygen groups on the carbon surface. The adsorption decreases on oxidation while the degassing of the carbon surface enhances the adsorption. The decrease in adsorption depends upon the strength of the oxidative treatment being much larger in case of the oxidation with nitric acid, while the decrease in adsorption on degassing depends upon the temperature of degassing. The results show that while the presence of acidic surface groups which are evolved as CO2 on degassing suppress the adsorption of p-nitrophenol, the presence of non acidic surface groups which are evolved as CO on degassing tend to enhance the adsorption. Suitable mechanisms compatible with the results have been presented.

        In modern wireless networks, multicast is a very important technique to improve network performance, including throughput, delay, energy efficiency, loss monitoring, etc. The quality of wireless links in wireless networks is affected by many factors like collisions, fading, packet loss problem and noise. Multicast techniques and reliable multicast protocol are used to resolve these negative factors and improve throughput and reduce delay in lossy wireless networks. Point-to-multipoint data transmission over wireless IP networks occurs in multicast technology. Bandwidth of network saved and load on the network is reduced with the use of multicast technique. In this paper, the four key techniques named as LP-based opportunistic routing structure, opportunistic feeding, fast batch moving and inter-batch coding, are reviewed.

        Comparative potential of Simvastatin, Rosuvastatin and Fluvastatin against bacterial infection: an in silico and in vitro study

        In the current investigation, we have compared the potential of statin drugs (Simvastatin, Rosuvastatin and Fluvastatin) as potential anti-bacterial agent by conducting in silico, in vitro and ex vivo studies. In silico study was conducted to check the interaction of statin drugs towards various targets of bacteria. The percentage growth retardation, bacterial growth kinetics, MIC determination, post antibiotic efect and bioflm formation assay were conducted to check the anti-bacterial efect of statin drugs under in vitro conditions. Finally, MTT assay was used to check the percentage of immune cell viability after Simvastatin treatment. Docking studies have revealed good interaction of Simvastatin, Rosuvastatin and Fluvastatin towards various targets of bacterial strains as that of the internal ligand. Simvastatin has shown good antibacterial activity against S. aureus, B. pumilus, P. aeruginosa and S. enterica as compared to Rosuvastatin and Fluvastatin. In vitro results have shown concentration and time dependent inhibition of bacterial growth by Simvastatin in concentration range of 64–256 μg/ml. Finally, MTT assay have shown non-cytotoxic efect of Simvastatin against adaptive immune system. In conclusion, Simvastatin could be a potential candidate as an anti-bacterial agent against a wide range of bacterial infections. However, further studies are required to check its complete role before starting phase I clinical trial.

        Polydopamine layered poly (ether imide) ultrafiltration membranes tailored with silver nanoparticles designed for better permeability, selectivity and antifouling

        Poly (ether imide) [PEI] ultrafiltration membranes are coated by polydopamine (PD) and immobilizedwith silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to improve the permeation, contaminant separation and anti-foulingproperties. The tailored membranes displayed enhanced permeability (97.2 Lm 2 h 1), hydraulicresistance (13.8 kPa/Lm 2 h 1), average roughness (43 nm), contaminant rejection (>97%) with a higherflux recovery ratio (>95%). PEI/PD/Ag membranes showed anti-biofouling property against gramnegative and gram positive bacteria and facilitated the separation of toxic contaminants. The outstandingstability of PD coating and the presence of AgNPs offer effective and safe water separation.

        ON REGULARITY OF BLOCK TRIANGULAR FUZZY MATRICES

        Necessary and sufficient conditions are given for the regularity of block triangular fuzzy matrices. This leads to characterization of idem-potency of a class of triangular Toeplitz matrices. As an application, the existence of group inverse of a block triangular fuzzy matrix is discussed. Equivalent conditions for a regular block triangular fuzzy matrix to be expressed as a sum of regular block fuzzy matrices is derived. Further, fuzzy relational equations consistency is studied.
