Determination of the Vlasov foundation parameters - quadratic variation of elasticity modulus - using FE analysis

Mecit Celik,Mehmet H. Omurtag 국제구조공학회 2005 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.19 No.6

The objective of this research was to determine the Vlasov soil parameters for quadraticallyvarying elasticity modulus Es(z) of the compresible soil continuum and discuss the interaction affectbetween two close plates. Interaction problem carried on for uniformly distributed load carrying plates.Plate region was simulated by Kirchhof plate theory based (mixed or displacement type) 2D elementsand the foundation continuum was simulated by displacement type 2D elements. At the contact region, plate and foundation elements were geometrically coupled with each other. In this study the necessaryformulas for the Vlasov parameters were derived when Youngs modulus of the soil continuum wasvarying as a quadratic function of z-coordinate through the depth of the foundation. In the examples, firstEs(z) were compared with the previous examples in order to discuss the general behavior. As a finalexample two plates close to each other resting on elastic foundation were handled to see their interactioninfluences on the Vlasov foundation parameters. Original examples were solved using both mixed and displacement type plate elements in order to confirm the results.

Nano and microsized EuB6 via magnesiothermic reduction

Mecit Aksu 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2013 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.14 No.1

In this study, nano and micro sized EuB6 was synthesized via magnesiothermic reduction in open air. Method is optimized according to temperature and reaction time. Optimum temperature and reaction time are determined to be 600ο C and 4 hours. Products were analysed with x-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM). XRD analysis proved formation of pure EuB6 and SEM analysis were used to characterize structure and morphologies of samples. Nanosized and microsized EuB6 with heterogeneous morpholgy was observed.

Determination of the Vlasov foundation parameters -quadratic variation of elasticity modulus- using FE analysis

        Celik, Mecit,Omurtag, Mehmet H. Techno-Press 2005 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.19 No.6

The objective of this research was to determine the Vlasov soil parameters for quadratically varying elasticity modulus $E_s$(z) of the compressible soil continuum and discuss the interaction affect between two close plates. Interaction problem carried on for uniformly distributed load carrying plates. Plate region was simulated by Kirchhoff plate theory based (mixed or displacement type) 2D elements and the foundation continuum was simulated by displacement type 2D elements. At the contact region, plate and foundation elements were geometrically coupled with each other. In this study the necessary formulas for the Vlasov parameters were derived when Young's modulus of the soil continuum was varying as a quadratic function of z-coordinate through the depth of the foundation. In the examples, first the elements and the iterative FE algorithm was verified and later the results of quadratic variation of $E_s$(z) were compared with the previous examples in order to discuss the general behavior. As a final example two plates close to each other resting on elastic foundation were handled to see their interaction influences on the Vlasov foundation parameters. Original examples were solved using both mixed and displacement type plate elements in order to confirm the results.

Analysis of circular plates on two - parameter elastic foundation

        Saygun, Ahmet,Celik, Mecit Techno-Press 2003 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.15 No.2

In this study, circular plates subjected to general type of loads and supported on a two-parameter elastic foundation are analysed. The stiffness, elastic bedding and soil shear effect matrices of a fully compatible ring sector plate element, developed by Saygun (1974), are obtained numerically assuming variable thickness of the element. Ring sector soil finite element is also defined to determine the deflection of the soil surface outside the domain of the plate in order to establish the interaction between the plate and the soil. According to Vallabhan and Das (1991) the elastic bedding (C) and shear parameters ($C_T$) of the foundation are expressed depending on the elastic constants ($E_s$, $V_s$) and the thickness of compressible soil layer ($H_s$) and they are calculated with a suitable iterative procedure. Using ring sector elements presented in this paper, permits the generalization of the loading and the boundary conditions of the soil outside the plate.

Absence of a Sphenoid Wing in Neurofibromatosis Type 1 Disease: Imaging with Multidetector Computed Tomography

        Omer Onbas,Cihangir Aliagaoglu,Cagatay Calikoglu,Mecit Kantarci,Mustafa Atasoy,Fatih Alper 대한영상의학회 2006 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.7 No.1

Neurofibromatosis type 1 disease is characterized by pigmented cutaneous lesions and generalized tumors of a neural crest origin and it may affect all the systems of the human body. Sphenoid dysplasia is one of the characteristics of this syndrome and it occurs in 5-10% of the cases; further, abnormalities of the sphenoid wings are often considered pathognomonic. However, complete agenesis of a sphenoid wing is very rare. We report here on an unusual case of neurofibromatosis type 1 disease with the associated absence of a sphenoid wing that was diagnosed by using multidetector computed tomography.

Anatomy, Variants, and Pathologies of the Superior Glenohumeral Ligament: Magnetic Resonance Imaging with Three-Dimensional Volumetric Interpolated Breath-Hold Examination Sequence and Conventional Magnetic Resonance Arthrography

        Hayri Ogul,Leyla Karaca,Cahit Emre Can,Berhan Pirimoglu,Kutsi Tuncer,Murat Topal,Aylin Okur,Mecit Kantarci 대한영상의학회 2014 Korean Journal of Radiology Vol.15 No.4

The purpose of this review was to demonstrate magnetic resonance (MR) arthrography findings of anatomy, variants, and pathologic conditions of the superior glenohumeral ligament (SGHL). This review also demonstrates the applicability of a new MR arthrography sequence in the anterosuperior portion of the glenohumeral joint. The SGHL is a very important anatomical structure in the rotator interval that is responsible for stabilizing the long head of the biceps tendon. Therefore, a torn SGHL can result in pain and instability. Observation of the SGHL is difficult when using conventional MR imaging, because the ligament may be poorly visualized. Shoulder MR arthrography is the most accurately established imaging technique for identifying pathologies of the SGHL and associated structures. The use of three dimensional (3D) volumetric interpolated breath-hold examination (VIBE) sequences produces thinner image slices and enables a higher in-plane resolution than conventional MR arthrography sequences. Therefore, shoulder MR arthrography using 3D VIBE sequences may contribute to evaluating of the smaller intraarticular structures such as the SGHL.
