The aim of this study was to improve the production of an extracellular alkaline lipase from Alcaligenes sp. (ATCC 31371) by optimization of the culture medium, for economic production of biodiesel from waste vegetable oil. A number of carbon sources including different types of starch, sugar, sugar alcohol, organic acids, and surfactants were investigated. Polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitan tristearate, whose side chain is stearic acid, was the most effective carbon source for lipase production. Box-Behnken experimental design was used for three factors (soy protein, sodium nitrate, and stearic acid) and the optimal composition for maximum lipase production (1.7-fold enhancement) was established as soy protein 4.07%, sodium nitrate 0.17%, and stearic acid 0.28% at 28°C with an agitation rate of 220 rpm for 24 h. The enzyme was purified to homogeneity and the recovery of the lipase activity was 7.8% with a 30-fold purification. The estimated molecular size of the protein determined by SDS-PAGE was 33 kDa. The optimum pH and temperature of the purified lipase was 8.5 and 40°C, respectively. The purified enzyme was stable in the pH range of 6.0 and 9.5 and in the temperature range of 20 and 50°C. A total of six species in six genera of the family Histeridae is documented from the collection of Yeungnam University, Daegu, South Korea. Platysoma (Platysoma) jongwooki sp. nov. and Niposoma lewisi Marseul are described and redescribed with illustrations of the diagnostic characters, respectively. Key to Korean species of the tribe Platysomatini is provided.

A 36-year-old female with a high-grade fever and epigastric abdominal pain was prescribed antibiotics, but developed hypoxia and dyspnea. An echocardiography revealed diffuse hypokinesis and massive pericardial effusion, after which diagnostic cardiac catheterizationand an endomyocardial biopsy (EMB) were peformed to reveal fibrosis and infiltration of inflammation cells composed primarily of neutrophils. Clinical manifestation of a spiking fever, leukocytosis, elevated ferritin levels, skin rash and EMB findings led to a diagnosis of adultonsetStill’s disease (AOSD) with acute myocarditis. Pulse therapy of intravenous methylprednisolone was performed for three days, followedby a daily dose of prednisone (60 mg). After a course of steroid therapy for fever and pericardial effusion, and conducting a leftventricular ejection fraction, the patient showed improvement and was discharged asymptomatic within 32 days of admission. This studyis the first to report on a case of myocarditis in AOSD diagnosed by neutrophil infiltration in the myocardium.
Rule Induction Considering Implication Relations Between Conclusions
Masahiro Inuiguchi,Masanori Inoue,Yoshifumi Kusunoki 대한산업공학회 2011 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.10 No.1
In rough set literatures, methods for inducing minimal rules from a given decision table have been proposed. When the decision attribute is ordinal, inducing rules about upward and downward unions of decision classes is advantageous in the simplicity of obtained rules. However, because of independent applications of the rule induction method, inclusion relations among upward/downward unions in conclusion parts are not inherited to the condition parts of obtained rules. This non-inheritance may debase the quality of obtained rules. To ensure that inclusion relations among conclusions are inherited to conditions, we propose two rule induction approaches. The performances of the proposed approaches considering the inclusion relations between conclusions are examined by numerical experiments.
Mosquito and biting fly surveillance on Camp Zama Army Base, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan
Masahiro Iwakami,Will K. Reeves 한국응용곤충학회 2011 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.14 No.1
Camp Zama, Japan, and the associated military housing and depot storage areas have been occupied by the US military for over 50 years. The military base has experienced less urbanization and development during those 50 years when compared to the surrounding cities of Zama and Sagamihara. We present an annotated comparative checklist of historical records of biting flies (mosquitoes, black flies, biting midges, stable flies, and horse flies) with recent collections. Overall 24 species of biting flies have been reported from Camp Zama, with 17 of these species collected during the last 5 years. Vectors of human and veterinary pathogens were collected including Anopheles sinensis, Aedes albopictus, Culex tritaeniorhynchus, and Simulium bidentatum.

Since product design strongly depends on the experience and ability of the designers, and a long lead time is required for the product design stage, introducing a support system related to this experience and ability is an effective technique to reduce the lead time. In this paper, an information system is developed to support the development of engineering mechanisms with the evaluation of the assembly process on the basis of the abstract functions required for new products. The developed system is based on a database system involving the following data structure: (1) a hierarchical structure related to information about the product functions, (2) the relationship between the parts and engineering functions and/or mechanisms of products, and (3) the relationship between the parts and manufacturing characteristics. The system stores the relationships between the product functions, structure of parts, and assembly characteristics. This information can then be interactively retrieved using the data structure described in (1), (2), and (3). A procedure for designing new products is proposed that involves using the information about existing products. This paper presents the characteristics of the proposed procedure and the developed information system. In addition, a case study of the redesign of a simple structured robot by using the proposed procedure is discussed.
