Ishfaq, Mariam,Malik, Arif,Faiz, Mariam,Sheikh, Ishfaq Ahmad,Asif, Muhammad,Khan, Muhammad Nasrullah,Qureshi, Muhammad Saeed,Zahid, Sara,Manan, Abdul,Arooj, Mahwish,Qazi, Mahmood Husain,Chaudhary, Ade Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.9
Fms-like tyrosine kinase 3 (FLT3) performs a vital role in the pathogenesis of hematopoietic malignancies. Therefore in recent times, the focus of several studies was on use of FLT3 as a prognostic marker. The present study investigated the molecular characterization and incidence of FLT3 mutations in acute leukemia patients in Pakistan. A total of 55 patients were studied, of which 25 were suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and 30 were suffering from acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The polymerase chain reaction demonstrated FLT3/ITD mutations in 1 (4%) of 25 ALL patients, a male with the L2 subtype. In AML cases the rate was 4 (13.3%) of 30, three males and one female. The AML-M4 subtype was found in three and the AML M2 subtype in the other. In the AML cases, a statistically significant (p=0.009) relationship was found between WBC (109/L) and FLT3/ITD positivity. However, no significant relationship was found with other clinical parameters (p>0.05). In acute myeloid leukemia (AML) $FLT3/ITD^+$ mutation was more prevalent in elderly patients 31-40 age groups, 21-30 and 51-60 age groups respectively. In acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) statistically no significant relationship was found between clinical features and FLT3/ITD positivity (p>0.05). However, in acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) $FLT3/ITD^+$ mutation was more commonly found in age groups of 21-30.
Dietary intakes of adolescents from food insecure households

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: This study aimed at evaluating the dietary intakes of Korean adolescents affected by food insecurity, in comparison with those who were food secure. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The study used one day 24-hour dietary recall data from the 6th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. The study subjects consisted of 1,453 adolescents of whom 695 were middle school-aged and 758 were high school-aged. Food security status was assessed using the 18-item questionnaire. Nutrient intake was evaluated in terms of nutrient density, insufficient intake, and excessive intake for selected nutrients, in addition to meeting the appropriate range for total energy intake and energy intakes from carbohydrate, sugar, protein, fat, and saturated fatty acids. Food intake was evaluated in terms of food group servings and dietary diversity score (DDS). RESULTS: The percentages of food insecurity were 11.1% for middle school-aged adolescents and 16.8% for high school-aged adolescents. Food insecure middle school-aged adolescents had higher intake of carbohydrate (P = 0.006) but lower intake of fat (P = 0.010) and saturated fatty acids (P = 0.005) than their food secure counterparts although the intake of both groups was in the recommended ranges. Nutrient intake among high school-aged adolescents was generally similar regardless of food security status. Both food secure and insecure adolescents showed insufficient intake of vitamin A, vitamin C, and calcium, and excessive sodium intake. They additionally had low prevalence of meeting appropriate intake ranges for energy, carbohydrate, and sugar. Food intake in terms of food group servings and DDS was also similar regardless of food security status among both age groups, with low intakes of foods from fruit and dairy groups. CONCLUSIONS: Except for a few nutrients among the middle school-aged adolescents, dietary intakes among Korean adolescents did not differ by food security status in this study.
Comedia sin titulo de Garcia Lorca: ensayo dramatizado para una didactica inconclusa
( Mariam Budia ) 고려대학교 스페인·라틴아메리카연구소 2010 스페인라틴아메리카연구 Vol.3 No.-

This paper presents a fast Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) estimation for sound source localization. TDOA is the time difference between the arrival times of a signal at two sensors. We propose a partial cross correlation method to increase the speed of TDOA estimation for sound source localization. We do this by predicting which part of the cross correlation function contains the required TDOA value with the help of the signal energies, and then we compute the cross correlation function in that direction only. Experiments show approximately 50% reduction in the cross correlation computation time thereby increasing the speed of TDOA computation. This makes it very relevant for real world surveillance.

The reduction in atmospheric inputs of SO42- as a result of stricter regulations of sulfur emission and the depletion in sulfur reserves following the intensification of agricultural production has caused a serious decrease in soil S-concentration. This would markedly affect growth and quality of numerous economically important plants. Foeniculum vulgare or fennel is one of the most cultivated aromatic and medicinal plants, mostly used for their powerful therapeutic effects. Being one of the cultivated species, Foeniculum vulgare could be affected by environmental disturbances like sulfur deficiency. In this work, the poor sulfur supply had a serious impact on the therapeutic quality of fennel seed extracts. At the application of sulfur deficiency, total phenolic compounds of fennel seeds extract decreased by 30% and their total antioxidant activity decreased by 21%. Sulfur starvation also reduced the antibacterial activity of fennel seeds against Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa by increasing the MIC of seed extracts.

We present a novel process to fabricate three-dimensional (3D) metallic patterns from 3D printed polymeric structures utilizing different hygroscopic swelling behavior of two different polymeric materials. 3D patterns are printed with two different polymers as cube shape. The surface of the 3D printed polymeric structures is plated with nickel by an electroless plating method. The nickel patterns on the surface of the 3D printed cube shape structure are formed by removing sacrificial layers using the difference in the rate of hygroscopic swelling between two printing polymer materials. The hygroscopic behavior on the interfaced structure was modeled with COMSOL Multiphysics. The surface and electrical properties of the fabricated three-dimensional patterns were analyzed and characterized.
