The Study of Cyanobacterial Flora from Geothermal Springs of Bakreswar, West Bengal, India

        Manojit Debnath,Narayan Chandra Mandal,Samit Ray 한국조류학회I 2009 ALGAE Vol.24 No.4

Geothermal springs in India, formed as a result of volcanic or tectonic activities, are characterized by high temperature and relatively abundant reduced compounds. These thermal springs are inhabited by characteristic thermophilic organisms including cyanobacteria. Cyanobacteria are among the few organisms that can occupy high temperature aquatic environments including hot springs. In alkaline and neutral hot springs and streams flowing from them cyanobacteria can form thick colourful mats that exhibit banding patterns. The present investigation involves study of mat forming cyanobacterial flora from hot springs located in Bakreswar, West Bengal, India. The important species found are Synechococcus bigranulatus, S. lividus, Gloeocapsa gelatinosa, G. muralis, Phormidium laminosum, P. frigidum, Oscillatoria princes, O. fragilis, Lyngbya lutea, Pseudanabaena sp., Calothrix thermalis, and Fischerella thermalis. Their distribution pattern in relation to physico-chemical parameters of spring water has also been studied. Three cyanobacterial strains of the above mentioned list were grown in culture and their pigment content and nitrogen fixing capacity were also studied. Nitrogen fixing capacities of Calothrix thermalis, Nostoc sp. (isolated in culture) and Fischerella thermalis are 5.14, 0.29, and 2.60 n mole C2H4/μg of Chl-a/hr respectively. Carotenoid : Chlorophyll-a ratio of four mat samples collected from Kharkunda, Suryakunda, Dudhkunda and bathing pool are 2.45, 1.60, 1.48, and 1.34, respectively. Higher value of Carotenoid : Chlorophyll-a ratio coincided with higher temperature.

Elucidating strategic patterns from target customers using multi-stage RFM analysis

        Manojit Chattopadhyay,Subrata Kumar Mitra,Parikshit Charan 한국마케팅과학회 2023 마케팅과학연구 Vol.33 No.3

Predicting profitable customers is a strategic knowledge portfolio of retailer managers because some customers are better profitable than others in a business. The present work is an effort to demonstrate a better model of predicting profitable customers. We apply the k-means algorithm to identify customer patterns based on Recency, Frequency, and Monetary (RFM) attributes computed from a real-life dataset of UK-based and registered non-store online retail. Six data mining models have been applied to each identified pattern and overall data to predict whether each customer would purchase in the next six months or not. A comparative analysis of identified pattern characteristics and predictable performances and Type I and Type II errors have been performed to identify the target customer group in terms of better predictability and profitability. The identified patterns help to generate novel marketing strategies. Thus, the retailers may successfully target the most consistently profitable customer groups to apply diverse knowledge on marketing strategies for the specific pattern.

Effect of roughness on interface shear behavior of sand with steel and concrete surface

        Samanta, Manojit,Punetha, Piyush,Sharma, Mahesh Techno-Press 2018 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.14 No.4

The present study evaluates the interface shear strength between sand and different construction materials, namely steel and concrete, using direct shear test apparatus. The influence of surface roughness, mean size of sand particles, relative density of sand and size of the direct shear box on the interface shear behavior of sand with steel and concrete has been investigated. Test results show that the surface roughness of the construction materials significantly influences the interface shear strength. The peak and residual interface friction angles increase rapidly up to a particular value of surface roughness (critical surface roughness), beyond which the effect becomes negligible. At critical surface roughness, the peak and residual friction angles of the interfaces are 85-92% of the peak and residual internal friction angles of the sand. The particle size of sand (for morphologically identical sands) significantly influences the value of critical surface roughness. For the different roughness considered in the present study, both the peak and residual interaction coefficients lie in the range of 0.3-1. Moreover, the peak and residual interaction coefficients for all the interfaces considered are nearly identical, irrespective of the size of the direct shear box. The constitutive modeling of different interfaces followed the experimental investigation and it successfully predicted the pre-peak, peak and post peak interface shear response with reasonable accuracy. Moreover, the predicted stress-displacement relationship of different interfaces is in good agreement with the experimental results. The findings of the present study may also be applicable to other non-yielding interfaces having a similar range of roughness and sand properties.

Exploring the strategic role of Marketer-Generated-Content analytics towards Airbnb hosts sales optimization

        Chattopadhyay Manojit,Pal Debdatta 한국마케팅과학회 2024 마케팅과학연구 Vol.34 No.2

Although user-generated content is reported to improve Airbnb host’s sales, the impact of Marketer-Generated Content (MGC) on the minimum sales generated from the reviewers who have reviewed the MGC is yet to be explored. This study examines MGC of title descriptions analysis from the City of Los Angeles listing data to understand their importance in predicting hosts’ net sales. The analysis employs two complementary econometric approaches: parametric multiple regression and the nonparametric multivariate adaptive regression spline model across three neighbourhood groups and two price groups. The findings indicate hosts can employ MGC to optimize sales and should highlight feature words in the title that best reflect the property characteristics and appeal to a target group that may be locationspecific, price-sensitive, or both. The title should be informative and detailed within a limit of 10 words. The novelty of the work is to identify the influence of total sales for respective feature words from the title description of Airbnb property and to analyze their uses in marketing communications. The practical implications indicate that host-generated feature words are crucial in maximizing net sales for the property.

Fast photoacoustic imaging systems using pulsed laser diodes: a review

Paul Kumar Upputuri,Manojit Pramanik 대한의용생체공학회 2018 Biomedical Engineering Letters (BMEL) Vol.8 No.2

Photoacoustic imaging (PAI) is a newly emerging imaging modality for preclinical and clinical applications. The conventionalPAI systems use Q-switched Nd:YAG/OPO (Optical Parametric Oscillator) nanosecond lasers as excitationsources. Such lasers are expensive, bulky, and imaging speed is limited because of low pulse repetition rate. In recentyears, the semiconductor laser technology has advanced to generate high-repetitions rate near-infrared pulsed lasers diodes(PLDs) which are reliable, less-expensive, hand-held, and light-weight, about 200 g. In this article, we review thedevelopment and demonstration of PLD based PAI systems for preclinical and clinical applications reported in recentyears.

Influence of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genetic susceptibility towards periprosthetic osteolysis

        Supriya Jagga,SHARMA ASHISH RANJAN,Manojit Bhattacharya,Chiranjib Chakraborty,이상수 한국유전학회 2019 Genes & Genomics Vol.41 No.10

Wear debris-induced inflammatory osteolysis remains a significant limiting factor for implant replacement surgeries. Hence, a comprehensive understanding of the complex network of cellular and molecular signals leading to these inflammatory responses is required. Both macrophages and monocytes have a critical role in the instigation of the inflammatory reaction to wear debris but differ in the extent to which they induce cytokine expression in patients. Lately, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been associated with genetic susceptibility among individual patients with implant failure. Studies have shown that SNPs in key pro-inflammatory cytokines and their receptors are associated with osteolytic susceptibility. Likewise, SNPs within several genes involved in the regulation of bone turnover have also been found to be associated with wear debris induced osteolysis. It is presumed that SNP variance might play a decisive role in the activation and signaling of macrophages, osteoblasts, chondrocytes, fibroblasts and other cells involved in inflammatory bone loss. Understanding the extent to which SNPs exist among genes that are responsible for inflammatory bone loss may provide potential targets for developing future therapeutic interventions. Herein, we attempt to summarize the various susceptible genes with possible SNP variance that could contribute to the severity of periprosthetic osteolysis in patients with implants.
