A Specific Factor Model of FTAA and North Carolina Textile and Apparel Industries
Mostafa Malki,Henry Thompson,Osei-Agyeman Yeboah 한국국제경제학회 2009 International Economic Journal Vol.23 No.2
Textile and apparel industries in the US face import competition that promises to increase under the Free Trade Area of the Americas. The present paper utilizes a specific factors model of production and trade to predict the potential impact of FTAA on the textile and apparel industries in North Carolina. Income is redistributed across six labor skill groups in North Carolina, and returns to capital in textiles and apparel fall as does output. In spite of falling prices for textiles and apparels, the model predicts higher wages based on rising prices of other products.
Alabama Forest Products and the Potential Impacts of FTAA Price Changes
Mostafa Malki,Osei-Agyeman Yeboah,Henry Thompson 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 2010 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.25 No.1
The Free Trade Area of the Americas FTAA will increase import competition for some forest product industries in Alabama but create export opportunities for others. Forest products loom large in the Alabama economy, both in terms of income and pollution. The present paper gauges the potential impacts of a range of price changes for forest products in an applied specific factors model of production. Pollution adjusts with forest product outputs. The potential impacts on outputs, capital returns, and pollution are substantial. Anticipated price changes also raise the wage and lower energy demand.
Ontology-Based Framework for Semantic Text and Image Retrieval Using Chord-length Shape Feature
Zohair Malki 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.11 No.11
Despite the vast research amount on the analysis and retrieval sematic images, there are still significant challenges worthy of address. This paper proposes an ontology framework to analyze and retrieve text and image based semantic search. This framework can be described in three main processes. Firstly, the Query Engine process constructs the input image query in SPARQL language. Secondly, the process of matching module is to retrieve the most affined images based on the compliance with input query. This process extracts the shape features of image's objects via chord-length features. Furthermore, the ontology manger process inserts the new relevant object's features in ontology knowledge base. Finally, the ranking module process is to classify the images which displayed in descending ordered based on matching values. Our experiment on a trained benchmark mammals shows that the proposed framework is more vigorous and yields favorable results when applying auspicious with large number of tested images without sacrificing real-time performance.
Vitamin D and Male Erectile Function: An Updated Review
Canguven Onder,Al Malki Ahmad H. 대한남성과학회 2021 The World Journal of Men's Health Vol.39 No.1
Literature support that vitamin-D is important for different systems of the human body including, but not limited to endocrine and immune systems, vasculature and endothelial function of the body. Male erectile function depends on many factors and can be perceived as a health indicator of the body. Epidemiological data have shown that vitamin-D deficiency is also associated with erectile dysfunction. In this review, our aim is to interpret the mechanisms by which vitamin-D might regulate anatomy and physiology of penis. Evidence showed that vitamin-D is needed for an adequate erectile function. Briefly, vitamin-D is crucial for a better healthy body and sexual activity.

Different solid state fermentation (SSF) sources were tested such as cantaloupe and watermelon rinds, orange and banana peels, for the production of polygalacturonase (PG) and xylanase (Xyl) by Trichoderma harzianum and Trichoderma virens. The maximum production of both PG and Xyl were obtained by T. harzianum and T. virnes grown on cantaloupe and watermelon rinds, respectively. Time course, moisture content, temperature, pH, supplementation with carbon and nitrogen sources were optimized to achieve the maximum production of both PG and Xyl of T. harzianum and T. virens using cantaloupe and watermelon rinds, respectively. The maximum production of PG and Xyl of T. harzianum and T. virens was recorded at 4–5 days of incubation, 50–66%moisture, temperature 28–35°C and pH 6–7. The influence of supplementary carbon and nitrogen sources was studied. For T. harzianum, lactose enhanced PG activity from 87 to 120 units/g solid, where starch and maltose enhanced Xyl activity from 40 to 55–60 units/g solid for T. virnes. Among the nitrogen sources, ammonium sulphate, ammonium nitrate, yeast extract and urea increased PG activity from 90to 110–113 units/g solid for T. harzianum. Similarly, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulphate and yeast extract increased Xyl activity from 45 to 55–70 units/g solid for T. virens.

The levels of arylsulfatases A and B, $\alpha$-amylase, aspartate transcarbamylase, and $\gamma$-glutamyl transpeptidase were investigated during the infection of mice with schistosoma mansoni. This infection caused a significant (p<0.001) increase in the activity of hepatic arylsulfatase B (ASB), aspartate transcarbamylases and $\gamma$-glutamyl transpeptidase. A non-significant difference occurred for $\alpha$-amylase (p<0.3) and arylsulfatase A (p>0.5) when compared to the control. The specific activity of hepatic ASB was progressively increased with the progression of the Schistosoma-infection. Moreover, the kinetic studies of hepatic ASB in Schistosoma-infection showed that a slight decrease in the value of $K_m$ and about a 40% increase in $V_{max}$ when compared to the control. In addition, the pH optimum of hepatic ASB was altered from 6 to 7 as a result of schistosomiasis. These observations suggest that there are schistosomiasis-associated changes of the catalytic and kinetic properties of hepatic ASB.

Objectives. A persistent insufficiency of glottal closure is mostly a consequence of impaired unilateral vocal fold movement. Functional surgical treatment is required because of the consequential voice, breathing and swallowing impairments. The goal of the study was to determine the functional voice outcomes after medialization thyroplasty with using autologous septal cartilage from the nose. Methods. External vocal fold medialization using autologous nasal septal cartilage was performed on 15 patients (6 females and 9 males; age range, 30 to 57 years). Detailed functional examinations were performed for all the patients before and after the surgery and this included perceptual voice assessment, laryngostroboscopic examination and acoustic voice analysis. Results. All the patients reported improvement of voice quality post-operatively. Laryngostroboscopy revealed almost complete glottal closure after surgery in the majority of patients. Acoustic and perceptual voice assessment showed significant improvement post-operatively. Conclusion. Medialization thyroplasty using an autologous nasal septal cartilage implant offers good tissue tolerability and significant improvement of the subjective and objective functional voice outcomes.

Objective To evaluate the endometrial histopathological profile of patients undergoing curettage and the association of the histopathological profile with the pregnancy outcome during the subsequent in-vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle. Methods In this retrospective cohort study, a total of 248 women with at least one failed attempt of IVF and who underwent curettage and a subsequent IVF were included. Demographic data, endometrial histopathological records, stimulation information, and pregnancy outcomes were collected and analyzed. Results The histopathological analysis of endometrial tissues showed that 130 women (52.4%) had endometrial pathologies. Of these women, 103 (41.5%) had endometrial polyps, 22 (8.9%) had chronic endometritis, and five (2.0%) had both polyps and endometritis. No statistical difference was observed between the normal histopathology group and the abnormal histopathology group in the outcome of the subsequent IVF cycle. Subgroup analyses were performed to further characterize and compare women with normal histopathology and women with endometrial polyps (polyp subgroup) or chronic endometritis (endometritis subgroup). No statistical differences were found among the three groups in the rates of pregnancy (44.1% vs. 49.5% vs. 45.5%, P=0.72), biochemical pregnancy loss (13.5% vs. 15.7% vs. 20.0%, P=0.86), clinical pregnancy loss (25.0% vs. 31.4% vs. 30.0%, P=0.77), and live birth (27.1% vs. 26.2% vs. 22.7%, P=0.91) during the subsequent IVF cycle. Conclusion Women with previously failed IVF and abnormal endometrial histopathology treated with curettage had the same outcome in the subsequent IVF cycle as women with normal endometrial histopathology.
