        Carbon nanotubes loaded N,S-codoped TiO2: Heterojunction assembly for enhanced integrated adsorptive-photocatalytic performance

        A visible-light active N,S-codoped TiO2 incorporated with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) was synthesized by amulticomponent heterojunction scheme. The synthesized photocatalysts was examined by several analysistechniques. The conventional TiO2, N-doped TiO2, TiO2/CNT and N,S-codoped TiO2 were also synthesized,characterized, and integrated adsorptive-photocatalytic degradation rates were subsequentlycompared and assessed, for comparative purposes as reference photocatalysts. The parametric studywas also carried out to investigate the effect of various operational factors, such as solution pH, the photocatalystloading and initial concentration of dye solution, on the adsorptive-photocatalytic performance. The best activity performance was attained with the N,S-TiO2/CNTs nanocomposite due to thesynergistic effect of ternary components caused by the incorporation of dopants and CNTs in TiO2 lattice,providing a high number of adsorption sites and facilitating the effective separation of photogeneratedcharge carriers and minimal recombination rates. N,S-TiO2/CNTs exhibited around three times higherphotocatalytic performance than that of the binary composites, i.e., N-TiO2, TiO2/CNTs, N,S-TiO2, andabout four times higher than the conventional TiO2. Furthermore, the superior nanocomposites were alsoinvestigated for their recyclability for five consecutive cycles.

        Восприятие корейцев-переселенцев русскими с конца XIX века по 1910 г.

        Восприятие корейцев русскими в конце XIX – начале XX века было основано на рапортах представителей военной администрации Уссурийского края, отчетах и очерках путешественников и ученых, публикациях в газетах, рассказах очевидцев. Первые сведения о корейцах были положительными. Многие из таких заметок были основаны на очерках Н. Пржевальского. Со временем восприятие корейцев стало меняться на негативное. Нарастание негативного отношения к корейцам началось с назначения на должность военного губернатора П.Ф. Унтербергера, имевшего националистические взгляды. Такая позиция стала отражаться в публикуемой литературе и распространяться среди административных чинов и населения вплоть до 1910 года. Цель работы – рассмотреть изменение отношения к корейцам-переселенцам русских в конце XIX века и до 1910 года на Дальнем Востоке Российской Империи. В задачи настоящей работы не входит анализ представлений о корейцах-переселенцах в русском обществе того времени, поскольку исследования ограничены объемом данной статьи. The perception of the Koreans by Russians in the late XIX – early XX century was based on reports of representatives of the military administration of the Ussuriisk region, reports and essays of travelers and scholars, articles in newspapers, eyewitness accounts. The first information about the Koreans was loyalty. N. Przhevalsky based many of such notes on essays. Over time, the understanding of the Koreans began to change to a negative side. The growing hostility towards Koreans began with the appointment of the military governor P.F. Unterberger, who had nationalist views. This attitude was reflected in public literature and was disseminated among administrative staffs and common people until 1910. The purpose of the work is to consider the changing attitude of Russians to Koreans-migrants in the late XIX century and until 1910 in the Far East of the Russian Empire. The tasks of this paper do not include an analysis of the perceptions about Koreans-migrants in the Russian society of that time, so the research is limited by the scope of this article.

        A review on recent advances in the treatment of dye-polluted wastewater

        The textile effluent has an unfavorable effect on the waterbodies as well as on the human health due tothe poor penetration of light by increased turbidity and higher oxygen demands. Therefore, the treatmentof dye-polluted wastewater is gaining an urgent attention. This review emphasizes on the sate-of-the-arttechnologies that have been developed for treating dye-polluted wastewater, including chemical, physical,and biological techniques alongside their benefits, challenges, and upcoming prospects. The studyconcludes that the single process alone may not be appropriate for the treatment of a range of dyepollutedwastewaters and approaching the quality demands as these technologies requires more timeand are complex. Literature exhibiting a range of approaches for treating large volumes of effluents withoutproducing secondary pollutants are reviewed. Moreover, the ecological impact was among the mainconcern due to the loss of catalysts and the production of waste sludge. On the other hand, reusability andregeneration are the integrated strategies to deal with such limitations. This review also provides adetailed environmental and techno-economic analysis, life cycle assessment, and practical implications. Moreover, the key bottlenecks requiring a major consideration concerning the universal appreciation ofhybrid frameworks are emphasized.

        Can CSR Alone Sufficiently Alleviate Investment Inefficiency? An Evidence from China, Korea and Japan

        This study investigates whether corporate social responsibility (CSR) alone sufficiently alleviates the problem of inefficient investment or not? This study considers firms registered on the Shanghai Exchange (China), Korean Exchange (South Korea)and Tokyo Exchange (Japan) for the period 2012 to 2016. Key findings are as follows. First, higher levels of CSR engagement have a positive role in alleviating investment inefficiency. Second, national culture plays a moderating role in the relationship between CSR and investment inefficiency for the entire sample. However, for China, national culture did not play any moderating role (weak culture). Korean national culture displays a partially moderating role (partially strong culture). Japan emerged as the strongest national culture because of the strong moderating role of its national culture. Third, information asymmetry has a mediating role between CSR and inefficient investment by solving the problem of underinvestment. Fourth, agency cost plays a mediating role between CSR engagement and inefficient investment by overcoming the problem of overinvestment. It concludes that CSR engagement alone is not sufficient for alleviating inefficient investment. However, the relationship between CSR and inefficient investment is explained more effectively, through the moderating effect of national culture and the mediating effect of information asymmetry and agency cost.

The moderation effect of national culture and the mediation effect of information asymmetry and agency cost are analyzed. This study considered firms registered on the Shanghai Exchange (China), Korean Exchange (South Korea), and Tokyo Exchange (Japan) for the period 2012 to 2016. The findings of the study are as follows. First, higher levels of CSR engagement have a positive role in alleviating investment inefficiency. Second, national culture plays a moderating and influencing role in the relationship between CSR and investment inefficiency for the entire sample. However, in the context of China, national culture did not play any role in moderating the relationship between CSR and investment inefficiency (weak culture). Korean national culture displays a partially moderating role, in removing inefficient investment through CSR (partially strong culture). Japan emerged as having the strongest national culture because of the strong moderating role its national culture plays in the relationship between CSR and investment inefficiency. Third, information asymmetry has a mediating role between CSR and inefficient investment in terms of solving the problem of underinvestment for the entire sample as well as the samples for each country. Fourth, agency cost plays a mediating role between CSR engagement and inefficient investment by overcoming the problem of overinvestment for the entire sample as well as the samples for each country. It is concluded that CSR engagement alone is not sufficient for alleviating inefficient investment. However, the relationship between CSR and inefficient investment can be explained through the moderating effect of national culture and the mediating effect of information asymmetry and agency cost.

        The effects of non-thermal plasma and conventional treatments on the bond strength of fiber posts to resin cement

        Objectives: This study compared the effect of hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO) and ammonia ($NH_3$) plasmas on the bond strength of resin cement to fiber posts with conventional treatments. Materials and Methods: Sixty-five fiber posts were divided into 5 groups: Control (no surface treatment); $H_2O_2$ (24% hydrogen peroxide for 1 min); Blasting (blasting with aluminum oxide for 30 sec); $NH_3$ ($NH_3$ plasma treatment for 3 min); HMDSO (HMDSO plasma treatment for 15 min). After the treatments, the Ambar adhesive (FGM Dental Products) was applied to the post surface (n = 10). The fiber post was inserted into a silicon matrix that was filled with the conventional resin cement Allcem Core (FGM). Afterwards, the post/cement specimens were cut into discs and subjected to a push-out bond strength (POBS) test. Additionally, 3 posts in each group were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy. The POBS data were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and the Tukey's honest significant difference post hoc test (${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: The Blasting and $NH_3$ groups showed the highest POBS values. The HMDSO group showed intermediate POBS values, whereas the Control and $H_2O_2$ groups showed the lowest POBS values. Conclusion: Blasting and $NH_3$ plasma treatments were associated with stronger bonding of the conventional resin cement Allcem to fiber posts, in a procedure in which the Ambar adhesive was used.

        Foods from Mayan Communities of Yucatán as Nutritional Alternative for Diabetes Prevention

        The increase in the prevalence of diabetes has become a severe problem around the world; mainly affecting indigenous communities as the Mayan of Yucatán in Mexico. Because of the high rates of poverty and insufficient health services in this ethnic group, inexpensive and accessible treatments are necessary. Some plant foods grown in traditional Mayan agricultural systems have antidiabetic potential. Our objective was to present a review of plant foods with nutritional alternatives for diabetes prevention from traditional agricultural systems in Mayan communities of Yucatán. This review reports the hypoglycemic, antihyperglycemic, and antidiabetic activities of leaves, fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes, and tubercles grown in milpas and home gardens of Mayan communities. Some plant foods have antidiabetic effect in vitro, in vivo, and in clinical studies. Some plant foods grown in traditional Mayan agricultural systems have antidiabetic potential. The inclusion of these plant foods in the diet can serve in the treatment of diabetes.
