Personality traits and life experiences influencing highly creative people: Six life stories
Paola Lizcano Madariaga,Pedro Sá,nchez Escobedo 순천향대학교 특수아동교육연구소 2016 특수·영재교육저널 Vol.3 No.1
Throughout qualitative methods this work examines life stories of six highly creative men (puppeteer, social scientist, painter and electrical engineering) and women (dancer & biologist) from both scientific and artistic fields. Salient life events and their own accounts of external and internal influences that they considered crucial in developing their high creative potential were analyzed in order to discern the degree in which experiences, education, personality and genetics combined to explain their highly creative performances. Differences between artistic and scientific creativity were found. Artistic creativity onsets earlier in life in a rather spontaneous fashion, whereas scientific creativity emerges later in life, and it is related to educational experiences. Likewise, scientific personality tended to be more stable over time whereas artistic creative productivity is episodic and rather inspirational. Familiar influences over their actual professional life were explained better by contextual rather than genetic influences, since none of their parents had the same profession. Activities in the family fostered the like and orientation for their work. Challenges and limitations in studying creative personalities are discussed in light of the procedures and results. It is argued that by studying life stories of highly creative people, may yield relevant information on how to foster creativity and understand highly creative individuals.
Increased Expression of P2RY2, CD248 and EphB1 in Gastric Cancers from Chilean Patients
Aquea, Gisela,Bresky, Gustavo,Lancellotti, Domingo,Madariaga, Juan Andres,Zaffiri, Vittorio,Urzua, Ulises,Haberle, Sergio,Bernal, Giuliano Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.5
Background: Gastric cancer (GC) ranks as one of the major causes of mortality due to cancer worldwide. In Chile, it is currently the leading cause of cancer death. Identification of novel molecular markers that may help to improve disease diagnosis at early stages is imperative. Materials and Methods: Using whole-genome DNA microarrays we determined differential mRNA levels in fresh human GC samples compared to adjacent healthy mucosa from the same patients. Genes significantly overexpressed in GC were validated by RT-PCR in a group of 14 GC cases. Results: The genes CD248, NSD1, RAB17, ABCG8, Ephb1 and P2RY2 were detected as the top overexpressed in GC biopsies. P2RY2, Ephb1 and CD248 showed the best sensitivity for GC detection with values of 92.9%, 85.7% and 64.3% (p<0.05), respectively. Specificity was 85.7%, 71.4% and 71.4% (p<0.05), for each respectively.
A Girl with 15q Overgrowth Syndrome and dup(15)(q24q26.3) that Included Telomeric Sequences
María de los Ángeles Gutiérrez-Franco,María de la Luz Madariaga-Campos,Ana I. Vásquez-Velásquez,Esmeralda Matute,Roberto Guevara-Yáñez,Horacio Rivera 대한진단검사의학회 2010 Annals of Laboratory Medicine Vol.30 No.3
Distal 15q trisomy or tetrasomy is associated with a characteristic phenotype that includes mild to moderate intellectual disability, abnormal behavior, speech impairment, overgrowth, hyperlaxity, long face, prominent nose, puffy cheeks, pointed chin, small ears, and hand anomalies (mainly arachno- and camptodactyly). We present the case of a 13-yr-old girl with the main clinical features of 15q overgrowth syndrome and a 46,XX,dup(15)(q24q26.3)[117]/46,XX[3].ish dup(15)(q24q26.3) (SNPRN+,PML+,subtel++,tel++) de novo karyotype. The findings in this case are consistent with those in the previous distal 15q trisomy cases that presented with overgrowth and mental retardation. Further, the rearranged chromosome had a double set of directly oriented telomeric and subtelomeric sequences. (Korean J Lab Med 2010;30:318-24)
