Postoperative survival According to the Glasgow Prognostic Score in Patients with Resected Lung Adenocarcinoma

Background: The Glasgow Prognostic Score (GPS) is calculated from measured CRP and albumin levels. We here evaluated the significance of the GPS in patients with resected pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Materials and Methods: The present study included 156 patients with lung adenocarcinoma who underwent lobectomy at Kanazawa Medical University between 2002 and 2012. Classification was into three groups: those with normal albumin (>=3.5 g/dl) and C-reactive protein (CRP) (<=1.0 mg/dl) levels were classified as GPS 0 (n =136), those with low albumin (<3.5 g/dl) or elevated CRP (>1.0 mg/dl) levels as GPS 1 (n = 16), and those with low albumin (<3.5 g/dl) and elevated CRP (>1.0 mg/dl) levels as GPS 2 (n = 4). We retrospectively investigated relationships between the patient characteristics including the GPS, and disease-free survival and cancer-specific survival. Results: The pathological stages of the patients were as follows: IA (n=78, 50%), IB (n=31, 19.9%), IIA (n=20.0, 12.8%), IIB (n=9.0, 5.7%), and IIIA (n=18.0, 11.5%). Lobectomy was performed in all cases. The average GPS was 0.15 (0-2) and showed significant relationships with stage and tumor size. The 2-year survival rates in patients with GPS0, 1 and 2 were 81.4%, 38.4%, and 25.0%, respectively. Clear correlations were noted with both cancer-specific survival and disease-free survival. Furthermore, multivariate analysis revealed that GPS was a significant prognostic factor. Conclusions: The GPS could be a prognostic factor for patients with resected pulmonary adenocarcinoma.

Studying Career Advancement of Women Coaches

The representation of women coaches in athletics is still limited. Taking psychosocial perspectives, many researchers have studied “why” women are not gaining access to the higher coaching positions in athletics and have explored “how” to improve women’s status in coaching careers. Informed by social-cognitive theory, research literature, and leadership models, we present a model of women’s career advancement in coaching, which proposes leader self-efficacy as a focal career facilitating factor. We reviewed research on the effects of gender discrimination, extensive domestic responsibility, resiliency, and developmental experiences on women’s leader self-efficacy and career advancement. Methodological considerations for future research on this topic are also discussed.

A PWM Motor Speed Control System based on the Dual-Loop PLL

PLL motor speed control systems can completely reject speed error and steady-state phase error for constantspeed input signals. However, it is not usually applied to systems with inputs including acceleration, because they have poor tracking speed and strange pull-in behavior. In the field of radio communication, “dual-loop PLL” is very effective for such signals. It can not only enable high-speed tracking, but also cancel phase error. This article shows that the principle can be applied, with some devices, to motor speed control, and a prototype implementation using PWM is described. Two supplemental techniques, called “active feedforward” and “active limiter”, are also incorporated, to achieve faster tracking and speed limitation. The scheme was implemented by programming an FPGA, and satisfiable results were obtained.

Crystal structure of deuterated dimethylammonium dihydrogen phosphate (CH3)2ND2D2PO4 was determined in the ferroelectric phase at 298 K by neutron diffraction. Deuteration ratio is estimated to be 0.913. Lengths of hydrogen bonds forming chains of phosphate anions are 2.50 and 2.59 A.

Preparation of BaTiO₃ Thin Films using Pulsed KrF Laser Deposition and in situ Laser Annealing

Barium titanate (BaTiO³) thin films have been fabricated on MgO substrate using a hybrid process of pulsed KrF laser deposition (PLD) and in situ laser annealing. By utilizing in situ excimer laser annealing, epitaxial films of 1 ㎛ thickness were successfully fabricated and its refractive index was close to that of the bulk crystal. Substrate temperature to fabricate epitaxial films was relatively low at 650℃, and smooth surface films were achieved with this method.

Blood flow velocity in the anterior humeral circumflex artery and tear size can predict synovitis severity in patients with rotator cuff tears

Background: Rotator cuff tears are often associated with synovitis, but the ability of noninvasive ultrasonography to predict the severity of synovitis remains unclear. We investigated whether ultrasound parameters, namely peak systolic velocity in the anterior humeral circumflex artery and Doppler activity in the glenohumeral joint and subacromial space, reflect synovitis severity. Methods: A total of 54 patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were selected. Doppler ultrasound was used to measure peak systolic velocity in the anterior humeral circumflex artery and Doppler activity in the glenohumeral joint and subacromial space, and these values were compared with the intraoperative synovitis score in univariate and multivariate analyses. Results: Univariate analyses revealed that tear size, peak systolic velocity in the anterior humeral circumflex artery, and Doppler activity in the glenohumeral joint were associated with synovitis in the glenohumeral joint (P=0.02, P<0.001, P=0.02, respectively). In the subacromial space, tear size, peak systolic velocity in the anterior humeral circumflex artery, and Doppler activity in the subacromial space were associated with synovitis severity (P=0.02, P<0.001, P=0.02, respectively). Multivariate analyses indicated that tear size and peak systolic velocity in the anterior humeral circumflex artery were independently associated with synovitis scores in both the glenohumeral joint and the subacromial space (all P<0.05). Conclusions: These findings demonstrate that tear size and peak systolic velocity in the anterior humeral circumflex artery, which can both be measured noninvasively, are useful indicators of synovitis severity. 海洋都市下関と朝鮮半島-朝鮮通信使を中心として-

下関は日本の本州の最西端に位置する海陸交通の要衝で、日本国内はもとより、朝鮮半島(韓半島)や中国とも有史以来、密接なつながりを持ち、海洋都市として発展した。特に朝鮮半島とは一衣帯水の地であり、人、モノ、情報が海の道を介して活発に行き交って、前近代では朝鮮半島の文化を強く受容し、近代以降は日本の朝鮮半島侵略の拠点となった。 本稿は、海洋都市下関と朝鮮半島の関係について時代別に概観するとともに、当地における朝鮮通信使御馳走および朝鮮漂流民送還の様相について紹介するものである。 朝鮮通信使にとって下関は、使行の安全を確保する重要な地であった。そのため、対馬易地聘礼となった1811年を除く全ての朝鮮通信使が目的地への往復の途次に必ず寄港している。この地での朝鮮通信使御馳走は長州藩毛利氏の役割であり、毛利氏は各使行とも懇切丁寧に応接し、1711年の使行では｢長門下之関御馳走一番｣と評価された。また、下関の客館であった阿弥陀寺において、長州藩の学者は通信使と積極的に学術交流を行って、藩内の学問興隆に貢献した。朝鮮通信使も下関の地理的･軍事的拠点性に着目しており、詳細な観察を行って使行録に記録している。 朝鮮通信使の往来によりもたらされた両国の平和的な外交関係は、朝鮮漂流民の救助と送還体制を確固たるものとした。近世下関には44回376人の朝鮮人が漂着しているが、全ての漂流民がこの地の人々に救助･保護されて、無事朝鮮国に送還されている。 Shimonoseki is placed in the westernmost of Japan Honshu, and it is the stronghold place of the amphibious trade. Therefore Shimonoseki is the representative marine city which has been interchanged many regions with inside and outside of Japan, such as Korea and China since the dawn of history. Especially Shimonoseki is separated from Korean peninsula by a narrow strip of water, the people and things and information of two regions exchanged frequently by the sea route. Shimonoseki accepted the culture of the Korean peninsula strongly, but it was changed to the base of invasion by Japan from modern-age. Here, I would give a conspectus of the relations of between marine city Shimonoseki and the Korean peninsula in order of the times, besides introduce about the Chosen Chusinsi receptions and the deportations of Korean drifters in Shimonoseki. Shimonoseki was the very important place for security of the Chosen Chusinsi mission. Therefore all Chosen Chusinsi mission expect 1811 year was visited at Shimonoseki by all means. The receptions of Shimonoseki was taken charged by Moori Lord of Chou Shu feud, Moori Lord went to meet Chosen Chusinsi mission on arrival with all his heart every times. Especially the Chosen Chusinsi mission of Shimonoseki in 1711 year was estimated as the best reception such as Nagato Shimonoseki Gochisou Ichiban. Besides many scholars of Chou Shu interchanged academic exchange with the Chosen Chusinsi mission actively in Amita Temple, and it made a great contributions to cultural development of Chou Shu region. The Chosen Chusinsi mission were concerned about of the geographical and militarily important position, watched and wrote in detail in their journals. The exchange of Chosen Chusinsi made the peaceful diplomatic relations between Japan and Korea, and the rescue and the deportations of Korean drifters from Japan to Korea were settled in pre-modern ages. 376 Korean persons were drifted to Shimonoseki ashore by 44 times in pre-modern ages. All drifting Korean persons were rescued and protected by the people of Shimonoseki, and they were sented to Korea safely.

世界の國語敎育の現狀 硏究發表資料

A teacher make her students read aloud a portion of a text allocated to them. Then, the teacher also read aloud the rest of the text for herself. While reading the text aloud, the teacher explains the meaning by sentence. The teacher writes important points related to the text on the blackboard as she explains the text. The students take notes of them carefully. The classroom is silent and every student seems to be actively engaged in their learning. However, the students listen to their teacher`s explanation, take notes, and memorize what they jot down since it is going to be on their exam. They learn what they take notes by rote not because they are interested in the lesson, but because they have a practical purpose to go to prestigious schools. These four steps - reading aloud, explanation, understanding, and memorization - seem to take strong root in Japanese literacy class. Can the students perform authentic and meaningful learning in the class? Does the teacher realize the potential results of their instructional method? I suggest that we Japanese educators stop stuffing their students` heads with traditional culture and knowledge based on a fixed standard. Instead, we should make our students realize the pleasure of reading and writing based on their personalities and interests. It is our task to move from teacher-centered literacy instruction to student-centered literacy instruction based on authentic texts and meaningful activities. Sato Manabu described the current situation of Japanese literacy education by using metaphoric expression that Japanese students are escaping from reading and writing. Classroom should be a place where students transact their different reading styles and processes together and share different meanings they constructed. If there are 40 students in a classroom, it means that there are 40 different reading practices. If the students are empowered and motivated to learn, they negotiate the different reading styles and processes together to create a classroom culture where all of them can participate actively. Media literacy based on technology can foster these shift from the cramming instruction to meaningful and authentic instruction. It connects our students "sub-cultures" from out-of-school literacy with a "main culture" of school literacy in productive ways. Educators might create digital reading materials based on students` sub-cultures to motive their reading and writing.
