Intensity and temperature dependence of photocurrent of a-Si:H Schottky diodes

Mehmet ?ahin,Ruhi Kaplan 한국물리학회 2006 Current Applied Physics Vol.6 No.1

The photocurrent of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) Schottky diode has been studied as a function of light intensityfrom a HeNe laser, applied electric bias, and temperature, by using a constant photocurrent method. TheIVcharacteristics andthus ll factor (FF) values were also obtained over the temperature range 173297 K. The FF increases very little as the temperatureis decreased. The exponentc in the power relationshipIph . Gc between photocurrent and light intensity was found to be temper-ature and electric eld dependent, and peaked around 260 K measured. The activation energy obtained from thermally activatedphotocurrent was also found to be electric eld dependent. These experimental results are discussed by means of the inuence ofthe trapping of charge carriers on the electric eld prole.

AN IDENTITY BETWEEN THE m-SPOTTY ROSENBLOOM-TSFASMAN WEIGHT ENUMERATORS OVER FINITE COMMUTATIVE FROBENIUS RINGS

        Mehmet ¨ Ozen,Minjia Shi,Vedat S¸iap 대한수학회 2015 대한수학회보 Vol.52 No.3

This paper is devoted to presenting a MacWilliams type identity for m-spotty RT weight enumerators of byte error control codes over finite commutative Frobenius rings, which can be used to determine the error-detecting and error-correcting capabilities of a code. This provides the relation between the m-spotty RT weight enumerator of the code and that of the dual code. We conclude the paper by giving three illustrations of the results.

Preoperative and Postoperative Factors Affecting Functional Success in Anatomically Successful Retinal Detachment Surgery

Mehmet Eren Guner(Mehmet Eren Guner ),Melis Kabaalioglu Guner(Melis Kabaalioglu Guner ),Zafer Cebeci3,Nur Kır(Zafer Cebeci3,Nur Kır ) 대한안과학회 2022 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.36 No.6

Purpose: To investigate preoperative and postoperative factors affecting functional success in anatomically successful retinal detachment surgery. Methods: Seventy-five eyes of 75 patients with rhegmatogenous retinal detachment who underwent anatomically successful surgery from 2014 to 2019 with more than 1 year follow-up were included in the study. Demographic characteristics, ocular examination findings, preoperative and postoperative spectral domain optic coherence tomography images were retrospectively evaluated. Results: The mean age was 53.9 ± 17 years (range, 11–85 years). The mean follow-up period was 36.7 ± 16 months (range, 14–72 months). The mean best-corrected visual acuity of the patients before surgery was 1.35 ± 1.24 and at postoperative 12 months was 0.66 ± 0.5 logarithm of the minimum angle of resolution. Patients who were operated in 7 days of visual symptoms onset were found to have better visual acuity at the first and subsequent postoperative exams. Preoperative proliferative vitreoretinopathy, vitreous hemorrhage, and extent of retinal detachment were found to have a negative effect on functional success at 12 months. Regeneration of the outer retinal layers had a positive effect on visual acuity at 12 months but did not significantly increase visual acuity after 12 months. Multivariate analysis showed that preoperative external limiting membrane integrity was significantly associated with better functional outcomes. Conclusions: Early intervention, presence of preoperative external limiting membrane integrity, and restoration of postoperative outer retinal layers positively affected functional success. The presence of preoperative vitreous hemorrhage, preoperative proliferative vitreoretinopathy, and the extent of retinal detachment had a negative effect on prognosis at 12 months.

Costs Stemming from Tax Systems: Tax Compliance Costs

Mehmet NAR(Mehmet NAR ) 한국유통과학회 2023 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.10 No.2

The relationship between the state and taxation starts from the establishment of the state. The most important element is the concept of “tax compliance”. Tax compliance can be considered as the harmony of state-society relations. However, the concept of tax non-compliance occurs when taxpayers do not fulfill their tax-related tasks as required. Tax noncompliance is just one of the costs that occur in tax systems, and is named “tax compliance cost” in the literature. This study focuses on tax compliance costs because tax compliance costs are the ones taxpayers are personally obliged to deal with. For this purpose, the study investigates costs accruing from tax systems, including efficiency, planning, application, and compliance costs. According to the analysis results, it was concluded that the main reason for fraud in the tax systems is high compliance costs and that tax compliance directly impacts social wealth. Besides, the existence of conditions conducive to tax evasion and tax avoidance in a country, short-term tax policies, belief in the unfairness and inequality of tax systems, inadequacy of audits conducted by tax authorities, insufficiency of pressure and deterrence mechanisms, constantly changing legislation, and the attitudes and perceptions regarding the illegitimacy of the government determine tax compliance.

Comparison of Pain between First and Second Operated Eyelids after Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty

Mehmet Icoz(Mehmet Icoz ),Bilge Tarım(Bilge Tarım ),Sule Gokcek Gurturk Icoz(Sule Gokcek Gurturk Icoz ),Emine Kalkan Akcay(Emine Kalkan Akcay ) 대한안과학회 2023 Korean Journal of Ophthalmology Vol.37 No.3

Purpose: To evaluate and compare intraoperative pain during upper eyelid blepharoplasty (UEB) between on first and second operated eyelids. Methods: In this cross-sectional observational study, the patients were divided into two groups, with group 1 representing 40 patients whose surgery was first started on the right and group 2 representing the other 40 patients who started surgery on the left first. UEB was performed to all patients by the same surgeon under the same and equal amount of local anesthesia. Degree of pain felt during surgery on first and second operated eyelid was evaluated with the visual analoge scale (VAS) and Wong-Baker Facial Pain Expression Scale (WBFPES) of all patients immediately after surgery and was compared using paired t-test. Results: There were 20 female and 20 male patients in both groups. In group 1, the VAS value was 2.8 ± 1.5 and WBFPES value was 2.7 ± 1.6 UEB in the first operated eyelid; the VAS value was 4.1 ± 1.8 and WBFPES value was 3.9 ± 1.8 UEB in the second operated eyelid. A significant difference was found between pains felt during first and second operated eyelid UEB regarding VAS and WBFPES values in group 1 (p = 0.003 and p = 0.002, respectively). In group 2, the VAS value was 1.9 ± 1.0 and WBFPES value was 2.0 ± 1.0 UEB in the first operated eyelid; the VAS value was 3.0 ± 1.5 and WBFPES value was 2.8 ± 1.6 UEB in the second operated eyelid. A significant difference was found between pains felt during first operated and second operated eyelid UEB regarding VAS and WBFPES values in group 2 (p = 0.009 and p = 0.005, respectively). Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to evaluate which eyelid is more painful during surgery in UEB. Patients tend to feel more pain during surgery on the second operated eyelid. Therefore, surgeons should consider using local anesthetics with more volume or longer duration in the second operating eyelid in light of this information and patients should be given detailed information about pain.

Evaluation of Paraoxonase, Arylesterase and Malondialdehyde Levels in Schizophrenia Patients Taking Typical, Atypical and Combined Antipsychotic Treatment

        Mehmet Güneş,Mehmet Akif Camkurt,Mahmut Bulut,Süleyman Demir,Aslıhan Okan İbiloğlu,Mehmet Cemal Kaya,Abdullah Atlı,İbrahim Kaplan,Aytekin Sir 대한정신약물학회 2016 CLINICAL PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY AND NEUROSCIENCE Vol.14 No.4

Objective: Human serum paraoxonase (PON1) prevents lipids from peroxidation and functions as an antioxidant mechanism. Malonyldialdehyde (MDA) is the final product of lipid peroxidation and can be used as an indicator of oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to investigate PON1, MDA, and arylesterase (ARY) levels in schizophrenic patients who are taking typical, atypical, or combined (typical and atypical) antipsychotic drug treatment, with respect to those of healthy controls. Methods: We evaluated 41 patients (11 taking typical antipsychotics, 19 taking atypical antipsychotics, 11 taking combined antipsychotics) and 43 healthy controls. Results: MDA levels were higher in schizophrenic patients taking typical antipsychotics compared with healthy controls (p=0.001). ARY levels were higher in patients taking atypical antipsychotics compared with healthy controls (p=0.005). PON1 activity was similar in all groups. Conclusion: Our results indicate that treatment with typical antipsychotic drugs could be related to increased MDA levels; and antipsychotic medication may increase PON1 levels in schizophrenic patients.

      • Efficacy and Tolerability of Weekly Docetaxel, Cisplatin, and 5-Fluorouracil for Locally Advanced or Metastatic Gastric Cancer Patients with ECOG Performance Scores of 1 and 2

        Turkeli, Mehmet,Aldemir, Mehmet Naci,Cayir, Kerim,Simsek, Melih,Bilici, Mehmet,Tekin, Salim Basol,Yildirim, Nilgun,Bilen, Nurhan,Makas, Ibrahim Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.3

Background: Docetaxel, cisplatin, 5-fluorouracil (DCF) given every three weeks is an effective, but palliative regimen and significantly toxic especially in patients who have a low performance score. Here, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of a weekly formulation of DCF in locally advanced and metastatic gastric cancer patients. Materials and Methods: 64 gastric cancer patients (13 locally advanced and 51 metastatic) whose ECOG (Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group) performance status (PS) was 1-2 and who were treated with at least two cycles of weekly DCF protocol as first-line treatment were included retrospectively. The weekly DCF protocol included $25mg/m^2$ docetaxel, $25mg/m^2$ cisplatin, and 24 hours infusion of $750mg/m^2$ 5-fluorouracil, repeated every week. Disease and patient characteristics, prognostic factors, treatment response, grade 3-4 toxicity related to treatment, progression free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) were evaluated. Results: Of the patients, 41 were male and 23 were female; the median age was 63 (29-82) years. Forty-one patients were ECOG-1 and 23 were ECOG-2. Of the total, 81.2% received at least three cycles of chemotherapy. Partial response was observed in 28.1% and stabilization in 29.7%. Overall, the disease was controlled in 57.8% whereas progression was noted in 42.2%. The median time to progression was 4 months (95%CI, 2.8-5.2 months) and median overall survival was 12 months (95%CI, 9.2-14.8 months). The evaluation of patients for grade 3-4 toxicity revealed that 10.9% had anemia, 7.8% had thrombocytopenia and 10.9% had neutropenia. Non-hematologic toxicity included renal toxicity (7.8%) and thrombosis (1.6%). Conclusions: In patients with locally advanced or metastatic gastric cancer who were not candidates for DCF administered every-3-weeks, a weekly formulation of DCF demonstrated modest activity with minimal hematologic toxicity, suggesting that weekly DCF is a reasonable treatment option for such patients.

      • Prognostic Value of Baseline Neutrophil-Lymphocyte and Platelet-Lymphocyte Ratios in Local and Advanced Gastric Cancer Patients

Aldemir, Mehmet Naci,Turkeli, Mehmet,Simsek, Melih,Yildirim, Nilgun,Bilen, Yusuf,Yetimoglu, Harun,Bilici, Mehmet,Tekin, Salim Basol Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.14

Background: We aimed to investigate the prognostic value of baseline neutrophil, lymphocyte, and platelet counts along with the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in local and advanced gastric cancer patients. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, a total of 103 patients with gastric cancer were included. For all, patient characteristics and overall survival (OS) times were evaluated. Data from a complete blood count test including neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte, white blood cell (WBC) and platelet (Plt) count, hemoglobin level (Hb) were recorded, and the NLR and PLR were obtained for every patient prior to pathological diagnosis before any treatment was applied. Results: Of the patients, 53 had local disease, underwent surgery and were administered adjuvant chemoradiotherapy where indicated. The remaining 50 had advanced disease and only received chemotherapy. OS time was $71.6{\pm}6$ months in local gastric cancer patients group and $15{\pm}2$ months in the advanced gastric cancer group. Univariate analysis demonstrated that only high platelet count (p=0.013) was associated with better OS in the local gastric cancer patients. In contrast, both low NLR (p=0.029) and low PLR (p=0.012) were associated with better OS in advanced gastric cancer patients. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that NLR and PLR had no effect on prognosis in patients with local gastric cancer who underwent surgery and received adjuvant chemoradiotherapy. In advanced gastric cancer patients, both NLR and PLR had significant effects on prognosis, so they may find application as easily measured prognostic factors for such patients.

Periprostetic Joint Infection Caused by Salmonella: Case Reports of Two Azathioprine and Prednisolone Induced-immunocompromised Patients

( Mehmet Ekinci ),( Serkan Bayram ),( Turgut Akgul ),( Mehmet Ersin ),( Onder Yazicioglu ) 대한고관절학회 2017 Hip and Pelvis Vol.29 No.2

Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) due to Salmonella is rare. It frequently occurs patients receiving immunosuppressive medicine. We describe two periprosthetic Salmonella infection of two immunocompromised patients. Both of patients were receiving azathioprine and prednisolone therapy. First patient presented six years after total hip arthroplasty with a huge abscess on her right thigh that was reached to femoral component through the lytic area of lateral femur. Second patient presented with drainage from his hip and he had undergone two-step revision surgery for PJI 3 months ago. There is no consensus in the treatment of periprosthetic salmonella infections. We prefer two-step revision surgery for these infections as previously described in the literature.
