This study evaluates the efficacy of a class robust control scheme namely active force control in performing a joint based trajectory tracking of an upper limb exoskeleton in rehabilitating the elbow joint. The plant of the exoskeleton system is obtained via system identification method whilst the PD gains were tuned heuristically. The estimated inertial parameter that enables the AFC disturbance rejection effect is attained by means of a non-nature based metaheuristic optimisation technique known as simulated Kalman filter (SKF). It was demonstrated from the present investigation that the proposed PDAFC scheme outperformed the classical PD algorithm in tracking the prescribed trajectory both in the presence and without the presence of disturbance attributed by the mannequin limb weights (1 kg and 1.5 kg) that mimics the weight of actual human limb weight. Therefore, it is apparent from the results obtained from the present study that the proposed control scheme, i.e., PDAFC is suitable for the application of exoskeleton for stroke rehabilitation.

Modeling the failure process of products, optimizing engineering decisions, i.e. upgrade and preventive maintenance, as well as marketing decisions such as price have been the major concerns of extended warranty (EW) providers. In this paper, for a product sold with two-dimensional warranty, like automobiles, we mathematically model and analyze the effects of reliability improvement programs, including an upgrade action and a preventive maintenance (PM), on the failure process of the product during the EW period. Besides, considering the demand for EW contract, we determine the optimal upgrade improvement level, the number of preventive maintenance during the EW period, and price of EW contract to maximize the profit of service providers. The failure history of a commercial vehicle, adopted from the literature, is also used to illustrate the proposed model. Through this numerical example and assuming four different servicing scenarios, we study the effect of upgrade and preventive maintenance actions as well as the price of EW contract on the profit of EW providers. The provided results reveal that considering both upgrade and preventive maintenance actions during the EW contract is the most profitable servicing scenario.

Abstract
Nitrogen doping is an effective way to tailor the properties of the shaped carbon materials, including the nanotubes, nanocups, nanofibers, as well as the nanorods, and render their potential use for various applications. The common bonding configurations obtained on the N insertion is the pyridinic N and pyrrolic N, which impart the characteristic properties to these carbon materials. This review will focus on the nitrogen-doped carbon materials, the doping effect on the electrochemistry of the doped nanomaterials, and the various synthetic methods to introduce N into the carbon network. The potential applications of the N-doped materials are also reviewed on the basis of the experimental and theoretical studies in electrochemistry.

Abstract

Conventional unsupervised learning algorithms require knowledge of the desired number of clusters beforehand. Even if such knowledge is not required in advance, empirical selection of the parameter values may limit the adaptive capability of the algorithm, thereby restricting the clustering performance. An inherent uncertainty in the number and size of clusters requires integration of fuzzy sets into a clustering algorithm. In this paper, we propose a type-1 (T1) fuzzy ART method that adaptively selects the vigilance parameter value, which is critical in determining the network dynamics. This results in improved clustering performance due to the added flexibility in dynamic selection of the number of clusters with the use of fuzzy sets. To further manage the uncertainty associated with memberships, we extend the proposed T1 fuzzy ART with adaptive vigilance to an interval type-2 (IT2) fuzzy ART method. Type reduction and defuzzification are then performed using the KM algorithm to obtain a defuzzified vigilance parameter value. We evaluate our proposed methods on several data sets to validate their effectiveness.

The main objective of this research is to investigate the impact of board size and board composition on financial performance of banks. The sample of this study consists on two countries listed bank sector Pakistan and China. The annul data is used from 2009-2018 to find the objective of this study. The Panel regression model is used to check the relationship between dependent and independent variables. Return on Asset and Return on Equity is used as performance checker dependent variables. The results of this study confirm board size coefficient value positive for ROA and negative for ROE but shows insignificant behavior for Pakistani banking sector while in Chinese banking sector the coefficient value of board size positively for ROA and ROE at 10% level. The board composition coefficient shows the negatively significant with ROA but insignificantly related to ROE for Pakistani banking sector. However, in Chinese banking sector the coefficient value of board composition is insignificant for both ROA and ROE. This study is helpful for banks, management of banks, policy makers, researcher as well as Government.
Subchronic and Reproductive/Developmental Toxicity Studies of Tetrahydrocurcumin in Rats
Majeed, Muhammed,Natarajan, Sankaran,Pandey, Anjali,Bani, Sarang,Mundkur, Lakshmi Korean Society of ToxicologyKorea Environmental Mu 2019 Toxicological Research Vol.35 No.1
Tetrahydrocurcumin (THC) is a major metabolite of curcumin, which is obtained from Curcuma longa. THC has various benefits and overcomes the bioavailability issue of curcumin. To establish it as a pharmacologically active molecule, its safety profile has to be determined. Thus, the present study aimed to determine the preclinical safety profile of THC in a 90-day subchronic and reproductive/developmental toxicity study in Wistar rats. THC at oral doses of 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg was administered daily for 90 days. Rats in the recovery group were kept for 14 days after treatment termination. The animals were observed for treatment-related morbidity, mortality, and changes in clinical signs, clinical pathology, and histopathology. In the reproductive/developmental toxicity study, THC at 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg was administered orally to rats and the reproductive/developmental parameters in adult male and female rats and pups were observed. THC at up to 400 mg/kg/day of did not have any significant effect on all parameters in male and female rats in both toxicity studies. Thus, 400 mg/kg/day can be considered as the no-observed-adverse-effect-level of THC in rats.
