Structural damping for soil-structure interaction studies

A soil-structure interaction formulation is used here which is based on consideration of the dynamics of the structure with a free, rather than a fixed, base. This approach is shown to give a quite simple procedure for coupling the dynamic characteristics of the structure to those of the foundation and soil in order to obtain a matrix formulation for the complete system. In fixed-base studies it is common to presume that each natural mode of the structure has a given fraction of critical damping, and since the interaction formulation uses a free-base model, it seems natural for this situation to assign the equal modal damping values to free-base modes. It is shown, though, that this gives a structural model which is significantly different than the one having equal modal damping in the fixed-base modes. In particular, it is found that the damping matrix resulting in equal modal damping values for free-based modes will give a very significantly smaller damping value for the fundamental distortional mode of the fixed-base structure. Ignoring this fact could lead one to attribute dynamic effects to interaction which are actually due to the choice of damping.

Stochastic analysis of seismic structural response with soil-structure interaction

The most important features of linear soil-foundation-structure interaction are reviewed, using stochastic modeling and considering kinematic interaction, inertial interaction, and structural distortion as three separate stages of the dynamic response to the free-field motion. The way in which each of the three dynamic stages modifies the spectral density of the motion is studied, with the emphasis being on interpretation of these results, rather than on the development of new analysis techniques. Structural distortion and inertial interaction analysis are shown to be precisely modeled as linear filtering operations. Kinematic interaction, though, is more complicated, even though it has a filter-like effect on the frequency content of the motion.

퍼스 기호학 유형분류를 기반으로 한 공익포스터 디자인 사례 분석 -아동폭력 주제의 공익포스터를 중심으로-

최근 수십 년 동안 아동의 권리에 대한 사회적 인식과 관심이 높아졌지만, 폭력을 당하는 아동의 수는 해마다 증가하고 있다. 본 연구는 이론적 고찰을 통해 도상 기호, 지표 기호 및 상징 기호를 포함된 해석체 매트릭스를 도출하고 2022년 제3회 볼루 국제 포스터 공모전 수상작 중 아동 폭력을 주제로 한 포스터의 시각 정보, 동작 정보 및 상징 정보를 분석해 결과를 정리했다. 본 연구의 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 아동 폭력을 주제로 한 공익 포스터는 일반적으로 아동의 이미지와 아동과 관련된 물품을 통해 도상 기호를 표현하며, 이는 간결하고 명확한 텍스트 설명과 결합하여 포스터의 주제를 수요자에게 직관적으로 전달한다. 둘째, 포스터는 몸짓과 표정 등의 동작 기호를 활용하여 피해자와 가해자의 정서적 상태를 표현한다. 셋째, 포스터는 시각 정보(도상 기호)와 동작 정보(지표 기호)를 통해 공익 포스터의 목적과 의미를 전달한다. 또한, 기호의 다양한 의미와 해석, 그리고 디자이너의 선택과 표현은 공익 포스터의 전달 효과에 큰 영향을 미친다. 따라서 향후 공익 포스터의 디자인과 해석에 있어 디자이너는 수용자의 배경과 문화적 차이를 고려하여 기호의 효과적인 전달과 이해가 뒷받침되어야 할 것이다. 이상 결과를 토대로 본 연구가 향후 공익 포스터 연구에 시사점을 제공할 수 있기를 기대한다. In recent decades, social awareness of and interest in children's rights has increased but the number of children subjected to violence has increased year by year. Through theoretical thinking, this study deduces the icons, indexes and symbols of the winners of the Third Bolu International Poster Design Competition in 2022, which take children's violence as the theme. And an interpretation matrix of visual information, motion information and symbol information. The conclusion of this study is as follows: Firstly, public posters on the topic of child violence generally express icon symbols through images of children and objects related to children. This effectively conveys the theme of the poster to the audience in a straightforward and clear manner, especially when combined with concise and explicit textual explanations. Secondly, the posters utilize motion information such as gestures and facial expressions to depict the emotional states of both victims and perpetrators. Thirdly, the posters effectively convey the purpose and meaning of public posters through visual information (Icon symbol) and motion information (Index symbol). Furthermore, the diverse meanings and interpretations of symbols and the designer's choices and expressions significantly influence the effectiveness of public poster communication. Therefore, in future designs and interpretations of public posters, designers should ensure effective transmission and understanding of symbols by considering the recipients' backgrounds and cultural differences. The conclusions are hoped to provide some assistance and implications for future research on public posters.

아시안게임 엠블럼의 민족문화상징에 관한 연구 -퍼스의 기호학을 중심으로-

아시안게임은 아시아 최대의 종합 스포츠 대회로서 각국의 스포츠 선수들에게 경기 기회를 제공함과 동시에, 아시아 내에서의 경제력과 전통문화를 선보이는 플랫폼으로 작용하고 있다. 아시안게임의 엠블럼은 대회의 상징이자 해당 대회를 개최하는 국가의 상징적 이미지를 구축하고 그 이미지를 활용한 국가 홍보에 중요한 역할을 한다. 본 연구는 1978년부터 2022년까지의 12개 아시안게임 엠블럼을 선정하여 디자인적 의미와 상징적 의미를 기호학적 관점에서 분석했다. 이를 위해 '한국의 민족문화상징' 목록을 기반으로 분류체계를 정하여, 그래픽, 색채, 문자, 조판, 상징과 같은 시각화된 요소를 분석하여 정리하였다. 아시안게임 엠블럼의 그래픽 요소는 주로 개최국 또는 개최 도시의 특성과 아시안게임의 스포츠 경기와 관련된 요소를 디자인 영감으로 정교하게 결합하여 개최지의 독특한 개성을 보여주고, 아시아 지역의 단합과 아시안게임의 핵심 이념을 부각해 준다. 아시안게임 엠블럼의 색채 요소는 일반적으로 개최국 또는 개최 도시의 독특한 역사적 · 문화적 · 지리적 특성을 반영하며, 동일 색채에서도 그 상징성을 판단할 때 국가와 민족의 문화적 맥락을 기초로 해야 한다. 종합하면, 아시안게임 엠블럼 디자인은 다양한 그래픽, 색채 및 상징성을 통해 개최지의 독특한 매력과 문화적 배경을 성공적으로 전달하기 위한 것이다. 이는 단순한 시각 기호가 아니라 국제 스포츠 무대에서 아시아 지역의 문화적 다양성과 단결 정신을 보여주는 표현이다. The Asian Games are Asia's largest multi-sport competition, providing athletes with opportunities to play, and acting as a platform to showcase economic power and traditional culture in Asia. The emblem of the Asian Games is a symbol of the competition and plays an important role in building a symbolic image of the country hosting the competition and promoting the country using that image. This study selected twelve Asian Games emblems from 1978 to 2022 and analyzed design and symbolic meanings from a semiotic perspective. To this end, a classification system was determined based on the list of “Korean national cultural symbols”, and visualized elements such as graphics, colors, letters, typography, and symbols were analyzed and organized. The graphic elements of the Asian Games emblem primarily draw inspiration from the host nation or city's features and the sports-related aspects of the competition to showcase the venue's distinct character, the unification of the Asian region, and the fundamental principles of the Asian Games. The color elements of the Asian Games emblem generally reflect the unique historical, cultural, and geographical characteristics of the host country or host city and should be based on the cultural context of the country and the nation when judging its symbolism in the same color. Taken together, the Asian Games emblem design is intended to successfully convey the unique charm and cultural background of the venue through various graphics, colors, and symbolism. This is an expression of the cultural diversity and unification of the Asian region on the international sports scene, not merely a visual sign.

Protective effects of peanut skin extract on high-fat and high-fructose diet-induced kidney injury in rats

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is becoming a major public health problem worldwide. This study aimed to explore whether peanut skin extract (PSE) has protective effects against high-fat and high-fructose (HF) diet-induced kidney injury. Rats were fed HF diet in the whole experiment, while rats in PSE-treated groups were supplemented with PSE. Finally, PSE reduced kidney tissue weight, perinephric fat weight, and levels of serum ammonia, creatinine, and urea nitrogen, along with decreases of renal IL-1β and TNF-α level. Histological examination indicated that PSE alleviated renal tubular dilatation, and degeneration and partial exfoliation of renal tubular epithelial cells. In addition, PSE decreased serum and urinary uric acid level, together with reductions of XOD production and XOD activity both in serum and liver, and down-regulated expressions of renal NLRP3 and ERS proteins. Thus, PSE may be a potential functional food for protecting against renal injury in high energy intake.
