The aim of this study was to present a method for endodontic management of a maxillary first molar with unusual C-shaped morphology of the buccal root verified by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. This rare anatomical variation was confirmed using CBCT, and nonsurgical endodontic treatment was performed by meticulous evaluation of the pulpal floor. Posttreatment image revealed 3 independent canals in the buccal root obturated efficiently to the accepted lengths in all 3 canals. Our study describes a unique C-shaped variation of the root canal system in a maxillary first molar, involving the 3 buccal canals. In addition, our study highlights the usefulness of CBCT imaging for accurate diagnosis and management of this unusual canal morphology. (Restor Dent Endod 2012;37(3):175-179)

Research on neo-nomadism has focused mainly on privileged forms of lifestyle migration, portraying these practices as individual choices but paying little attention to their embeddedness in constraining socioeconomic structures. Yet, neo-nomadic practices are increasingly involving lower- to middle-class people. They may experience a sense of freedom and subjective upward social mobility; however, their lives are also marked by precarious conditions. We investigate this tension through ethnographic research and interviews with digital nomads in coworking spaces in Barcelona and street vendors in São Paulo. We analyse the links between selfemployment and neo-nomadism in their trajectories by drawing on literature on subjective social mobility. We find that emic definitions of “moving up” among our research participants involve three existential dimensions: (1) the quest for freedom, or the subjective sense of social mobility associated with mastering one’s time and choices; (2) the valuation of flexibility, or positive imaginaries of (transnational) spatial mobility and its advantages; and (3) the desire for personal growth, connected with discourses of self-improvement, self-reliance, and individualisation. We argue that entrepreneurship can be analysed as a frame for developing self-reliance and self-improvement in neoliberal contexts where individuals face increasing levels of uncertainty and precarisation.

Background: Bicruciate-stabilized (BCS) total knee arthroplasty (TKA) aims to restore normal kinematics by replicating the function of both cruciate ligaments. Conventional cruciate-retaining (CR) design in TKA has shown previous clinical success with lower complication rates. This study compared the patient-reported outcomes between the BCS and CR TKA designs. Methods: This retrospective study examined patients who underwent primary TKA using a CR or a BCS implant. Patient demographics, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score for Joint Replacement (KOOS, JR), and Forgotten Joint Score (FJS) were compared between two cohorts. Patient-reported outcome measures were analyzed using independent samples t -tests. Results: There were no significant preoperative demographic differences between groups. The CR cohort (n = 756) had significantly higher average KOOS, JR Scores compared to the BCS cohort (n = 652) at 3 months (59.7 ± 3.8 vs. 53.0 ± 3.9, p < 0.001) and 2 years (62.6 ± 8.0 vs. 53.8 ± 6.7, p = 0.001) after TKA. Within the cohort, KOOS, JR delta differences were not significant for CR when comparing patient scores 3 months to 1 year after surgery. Meanwhile, the BCS patients did show significant delta improvement (4.1 ± 1.9, p = 0.030) when compared 3 months to 1 year after surgery. One year postoperatively, the BCS cohort (n = 134) showed a significantly higher average FJS score (49.5 ± 31.4, vs. 36.8 ± 28.5, p = 0.028) than the CR cohort (n = 203). Both cohorts displayed a significant difference in delta improvements within their respective cohort when measuring FJS from 3 months to 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years after surgery. Conclusions: The CR cohort performed better on average, compared to the BCS cohort in measures of KOOS, JR scores at the 2-year follow-up. The BCS cohort performed marginally better regarding FJS only at 1-year follow-up.
Rewriting of Poetry: A Case Study of the Translation of Yideum Kim’s Hysteria
Lorena Badioiu,이지민 한국동서비교문학학회 2022 동서 비교문학저널 Vol.- No.60
Translation of contemporary Korean poetry, especially by female poets, has not yet been widely studied. This paper seeks to analyze how feminist poetry by a Korean female poet is translated or rewritten by a Western translator from the perspectives of structural style and tenor, including mood and appraisal. The text is the award-winning book, 『히스테리아』 by Yideum Kim and its English translation Hysteria, which was translated by a group of translators including Jake Levine. This study compares the ST and the TT to identify differences between them, and conducts an interview with Levine to explore the reasons behind these differences. In terms of style, the translators recreate the structure of the original by dividing stanzas, splitting lines, adding punctuation, and applying capitalization and italicization. With regard to tenor, the translators manipulate the relationship between speakers, increase the intensity and certainty of expressions, and often use terms indicating negative attitudes toward women, including derogatory expletives. They also delete feminine characteristics from the poems on many occasions. The interview with translator Levine reveals that, firstly, such strategies are based on their own creative choices, and linguistic transfer is not their priority; secondly, that they actively engage in rewriting out of respect for the author the desire to create poetry which is as good in English as it is in Korean; and thirdly, that there was a specific request from this particular book’s editors to make the poetry very strong and masculine. This study is especially meaningful because it identifies reasons underlying specific translation strategies directly from one of the translators.

Turmeric extracts (TEs) have been shown to be suitable as a pain treatment for human joint arthritis. In a pilot, randomized clinical trial, 68 individuals with mild/moderate knee joint pain (KJP) consumed a new formulation of water-soluble TEs and insoluble curcuminoids (B-Turmactive®) or brewer's yeast as a placebo for 1 week. Our hypothesis was that B-Turmactive would have a short-term analgesic effect on KJP measured by the self-reported Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). After 3 days and 1 week, both treatments reduced pain when walking on a flat surface (P < .01), going up or down stairs (P < .001), and sitting or lying (P < .05), but only B-Turmactive reduced pain at night while in bed and in an upright standing position (P < .01). Concerning global KJP, it was reduced by both treatments after 3 days and 1 week of the intervention (P < .001), being less with B-Turmactive after 1 week (P = .012 vs. 3 weeks). Although no intertreatment differences were observed, only B-Turmactive decreased high-sensitivity C-reactive protein levels (P = .045) at 1 week, which indicates a prompt analgesic effect mediated by a decrease in inflammatory status.

The toxic solvent dimethylformamide has been replaced by the greener dimethylsulfoxide in the castingand activation processes for the preparation of thinfilm composite (TFC) membranes. This methodologyhas been validated with the use of MOFs ZIF-8, ZIF-93 and UiO-66 asfillers for thin-film nanocomposite(TFN) membranes. These membranes were successfully applied in the organic solvent nanofiltration ofsunset yellow (SY) in methanol obtaining the highest permeance when UiO-66 and ZIF-93 were usedwith a value of 11 L m 2 h-1 bar-1. The permeance improvements are related to the MOF porosity,polyamide-MOF layer thickness and the hydrophilic/hydrophobic character of the membrane.
Screening of Yeasts Isolated from Brazilian Environments for the 2-Phenylethanol (2-PE) Production
Lorena Azevedo de Lima,Raphael Hermano Santos Diniz,Marisa Vieira de Queiroz,Luciano Gomes Fietto,Wendel Batista da Silveira 한국생물공학회 2018 Biotechnology and Bioprocess Engineering Vol.23 No.3
Phenylethanol alcohol, or 2-phenylethanol (2-PE) production by yeasts has been considered a promising alternative to its chemical synthesis. In order to evaluate the potential of yeast strains isolated from different Brazilian environments, we evaluated the 2-PE production of 267 strains. Among them, the Kluyveromyces marxianus CCT 7735 yeast stood out as being the best 2-PE producer. The K. marxianus CCT 7735 growth was impaired by 2-PE; nevertheless, this effect is less pronounced than the inhibition reported for certain Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains. The maximum 2-PE titer obtained under optimized conditions was 3.44 g/L, 28% higher than the titer achieved under unoptimized conditions. The optimized conditions were: 30ºC, and glucose and L-phe concentrations of 3.0 and 4.0 g/L, respectively. Moreover, the specific production rate of 2-PE increased twofold compared to the unoptimized conditions.
