The Effect of Different Inflows on the Unsteady Hydrodynamic Characteristics of a Mixed Flow Pump

        Long Yun,Wang Dezhong,Yin Junlian,Cai Youlin,Feng Chao 한국유체기계학회 2017 International journal of fluid machinery and syste Vol.10 No.2

The problem of non-uniform inflow exists in many practical engineering applications, such as the elbow suction pipe of waterjet pump and, the channel head of steam generator which is directly connect with reactor coolant pump. Generally, pumps are identical designs and are selected based on performance under uniform inflow with the straight pipe, but actually non-uniform suction flow is induced by upstream equipment. In this paper, CFD approach was employed to analyze unsteady hydrodynamic characteristics of reactor coolant pumps with different inflows. The Reynolds-averaged Naiver-Stokes equations with the k-ε turbulence model were solved by the computational fluid dynamics software CFX to conduct the steady and unsteady numerical simulation. The numerical results of the straight pipe and channel head were validated with experimental data for the heads at different flow coefficients. In the nominal flow rate, the head of the pump with the channel head decreases by 1.19% when compared to the straight pipe. The complicated structure of channel head induces the inlet flow non-uniform. The non-uniformity of the inflow induces the difference of vorticity distribution at the outlet of the pump. The variation law of blade to blade velocity at different flow rate and the difference of blade to blade velocity with different inflow are researched. The effects of non-uniform inflow on radial forces are absolutely different from the uniform inflow. For the radial forces at the frequency fR, the corresponding amplitude of channel head are higher than the straight pipe at 1.0Фd and 1.2Фd flow rates, and the corresponding amplitude of channel head are lower than the straight pipe at 0.8Фd flow rates.

A cavitation performance prediction method for pumps: Part2-sensitivity and accuracy

        Long, Yun,Zhang, Yan,Chen, Jianping,Zhu, Rongsheng,Wang, Dezhong Korean Nuclear Society 2021 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.53 No.11

At present, in the case of pump fast optimization, there is a problem of rapid, accurate and effective prediction of cavitation performance. In "A Cavitation Performance Prediction Method for Pumps PART1-Proposal and Feasibility" [1], a new cavitation performance prediction method is proposed, and the feasibility of this method is demonstrated in combination with experiments of a mixed flow pump. However, whether this method is applicable to vane pumps with different specific speeds and whether the prediction results of this method are accurate is still worthy of further study. Combined with the experimental results, the research evaluates the sensitivity and accuracy at different flow rates. For a certain operating condition, the method has better sensitivity to different flow rates. This is suitable for multi-parameter multi-objective optimization of pump impeller. For the test mixed flow pump, the method is more accurate when the area ratios are 13.718% and 13.826%. The cavitation vortex flow is obtained through high-speed camera, and the correlation between cavitation flow structure and cavitation performance is established to provide more scientific support for cavitation performance prediction. The method is not only suitable for cavitation performance prediction of the mixed flow pump, but also can be expanded to cavitation performance prediction of blade type hydraulic machinery, which will solve the problem of rapid prediction of hydraulic machinery cavitation performance.

Numerical and experimental investigation on the diffuser optimization of a reactor coolant pump with orthogonal test approach

        Long Yun,Zhu Rongsheng,Wang Dezhong,Yin Junlian,Li Tianbin 대한기계학회 2016 JOURNAL OF MECHANICAL SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY Vol.30 No.11

The diffuser of a reactor coolant pump was optimized using an orthogonal approach with numerical simulation to improve the pump hydraulic performance. Steady simulation was conducted by solving Reynolds-averaged Naiver-Stokes equations with the SST k-ω turbulence model using CFX code. The influence of the diffuser geometric parameters, namely, S, φ, α 4 , b 4 , δ 2 , R t and R 4 , on the pump performance were determined. L 18 (3 7 ) orthogonal table was chosen for the optimization process. Best indicators were determined, and range analysis of energy losses, head, and efficiency at the rated condition was performed. Optimal parameters of the diffuser were S = 490 mm, φ = 36°, α 4 = 30°, b 4 = 200 mm, δ 2 = 20 mm, R t = 5 mm and R 4 = 565 mm. The final design was experimentally tested. Simulation results showed more remarkable performance than the experimental result. However, the numerical predictions and experimental results were consistent, validating the design procedure. Loading of the impeller and diffuser blades was analyzed to investigate the direct impact on the hydrodynamic flow field. The head was 14.74 m, efficiency was 79.6 %, and efficiency of the prototype pump was 83.3 % when the model pump functioned at the rated conditions. Optimization results showed that efficiency and head were improved at the design condition.

Numerical investigation on seismic performance of reinforced rib-double steel plate concrete combination shear wall

        Zhou Longyun,Li Xiaohu,Li Xiaojun 한국원자력학회 2024 Nuclear Engineering and Technology Vol.56 No.1

Double steel plate concrete composite shear wall (SCSW) has been widely utilized in nuclear power plants and high-rise structures, and its shear connectors have a substantial impact on the seismic performance of SCSW. Therefore, in this study, the mechanical properties of SCSW with angle stiffening ribs as shear connections were parametrically examined for the reactor containment structure of nuclear power plants. The axial compression ratio of the SCSW, the spacing of the angle stiffening rib arrangement and the thickness of the angle stiffening rib steel plate were selected as the study parameters. Four finite element models were constructed by using the finite element program named ABAQUS to verify the experimental results of our team, and 13 finite element models were established to investigate the selected three parameters. Thus, the shear capacity, deformation capacity, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of SCSW were determined. The research results show that: compared with studs, using stiffened ribs as shear connectors can significantly enhance the mechanical properties of SCSW; When the axial compression ratio is 0.3–0.4, the seismic performance of SCSW can be maximized; with the lowering of stiffener gap, the shear bearing capacity is greatly enhanced, and when the gap is lowered to a specific distance, the shear bearing capacity has no major affect; in addition, increasing the thickness of stiffeners can significantly increase the shear capacity, ductility and energy dissipation capacity of SCSW. With the rise in the thickness of angle stiffening ribs, the improvement rate of each mechanical property index slows down. Finally, the shear bearing capacity calculation formula of SCSW with angle stiffening ribs as shear connectors is derived. The average error between the theoretical calculation formula and the finite element calculation results is 8% demonstrating that the theoretical formula is reliable. This study can provide reference for the design of SCSW.

Dual-model Predictive Direct Power Control for Grid-connected Three-level Converter Systems

        Bihua Hu,Longyun Kang,Teng Feng,Shubiao Wang,Jiancai Cheng,Zhi Zhang 전력전자학회 2018 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.18 No.5

Many researchers devote themselves to develop model-predictive direct power control (MPDPC) so as to accelerate the response speed of the grid-connected systems, but they are troubled its large computing amount. On the basis of MPDPC, dual MPDPC (DMPDPC) is presented in this paper. The proposed algorithm divides the conventional MPDPC into two steps. In the first step, the optimal sector is obtained, which contains the optimal switching state in three-level converters. In the second step, the optimal switching state in the selected sector is searched to trace reference active and reactive power and balance neutral point voltage. Simulation and experiment results show that the proposed algorithm not only decreases the computational amount remarkably but also improves the steady-state performance. The dynamic response of the DMPDPC is as fast as that of the MPDPC.

A Magnetic Energy Recovery Switch Based Terminal Voltage Regulator for the Three-Phase Self-Excited Induction Generators in Renewable Energy Systems

        Yewen Wei,Longyun Kang,Zhizhen Huang,Zhen Li,Miao miao Cheng 전력전자학회 2015 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.15 No.5

Distributed generation systems (DGSs) have been getting more and more attention in terms of renewable energy use and new generation technologies in the past decades. The self-excited induction generator (SEIG) occupies an important role in the area of energy conversion due to its low cost, robustness and simple control. Unlike synchronous generators, the SEIG has to absorb capacitive reactive power from the outer device aiming to stabilize the terminal voltage at load changes. This paper presents a novel static VAR compensator (SVC) called a magnetic energy recovery switch (MERS) to serve as a voltage controller in SEIG powered DGSs. In addition, many small scale SEIGs, instead of a single large one, are applied and devoted to promote the generation efficiency. To begin with, an expandable mathematic model based on a d-q equivalent circuit is created for parallel SEIGs. The control method of the MERS is further improved with the objective of broadening its operating range and restraining current harmonics by parameter optimization. A hybrid control strategy is developed by taking both of the stand-alone and grid-connected modes into consideration. Then simulation and experiments are carried out in the case of single and double SEIG(s) generation. Finally, the measurement results verify that the proposed DGS with SVC-MERS achieves a better stability and higher feasibility. The major advantages of the mentioned variable reactive power supplier, when compared to the STATCOM, include the adoption of a small DC capacitor, line frequency switching, simple control and less loss.

A Novel Maximum Power Point Tracking Algorithms for Stand-alone Photovoltaic System

        Shiqiong Zhou,Longyun Kang,Jing Sun,Guifang Guo,Bo Cheng,Binggang Cao,Yiping Tang 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2010 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.8 No.6

A novel control algorithm, namely subsection adaptive hill climbing method (SSAHC), for seeking the maximum power point (MPP) of a photovoltaic (PV) panel for any temperature and solar radiation level is proposed. The algorithm is thus a combination of the subsection and adaptive hill climbing me-thods. In this algorithm, the characteristic curve of power-voltage of PV panel was divided into three subsections, namely large step approximation section, adaptive hill climbing section and maximum power section. Using this method, the MPP tracker (MPPT) can tune adaptively the step to track the MPP of PV system. The main advantage of the MPPT controlled by this new algorithm, when is compared with others, is that it can draw more power at a certain weather condition , especially, in case solar radiation changes rapidly at higher radiation.

A Novel Modulation Method for Three-Level Inverter Neutral Point Potential Oscillation Elimination

        Yuan Yao,Longyun Kang,Zhi Zhang 전력전자학회 2018 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.18 No.2

A novel algorithm is proposed to regulate the neutral point potential in neutral point clamped three-level inverters. Oscillations of the neutral point potential and an unbalanced dc-link voltage cause distortions of the output voltage. Large capacitors, which make the application costly and bulky, are needed to eliminate oscillations. Thus, the algorithm proposed in this paper utilizes the finite-control-set model predictive control and the multistage medium vector to solve these issues. The proposed strategy consists of a two-step prediction and a cost function to evaluate the selected multistage medium vector. Unlike the virtual vector method, the multistage medium vector is a mixture of the virtual vector and the original vector. In addition, its amplitude is variable. The neutral point current generated by it can be used to adjust the neutral point potential. When compared with the virtual vector method, the multistage medium vector contributes to decreasing the regulation time when the modulation index is high. The vectors are rearranged to cope with the variable switching frequency of the model predictive control. Simulation and experimental results verify the validity of the proposed strategy.
