Bang, Ho-Ju,Kim, Hak-Yong,Jin, Fan-Long,Woo, Je-Wan,Park, Soo-Jin Korean Chemical Society 2011 Bulletin of the Korean Chemical Society Vol.32 No.2
In this study, conjugate fibers were prepared from 1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol-modified polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin using side by side conjugate spinning, sea-island type conjugate spinning, and split type conjugate spinning methods, and the properties of the conjugate fibers were investigated via several techniques. When viscosity increased, the tenacity of side by side conjugate fibers was increased, whereas elongation decreased. The sea-island conjugate fibers showed lower weight loss and surface color difference (K/S) values relative to that of regular PET fibers at the same conditions. The SEM results indicate that orange type spilt readily produced at a temperature range of 120 - 140$^{\circ}C$.

Enhancement of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory functions is thought to be effective strategies for disease prevention. This study aimed to investigate antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of extracts from roots, stems, and leaves of Polyscias fruticosa. Results showed that P. fruticosa root, stem and leaf extracts and their fractions exhibited strong antioxidant activities, as evident from DPPH, ABTS+, NO radical scavenging activities. In addition, antioxidant activity was highly correlated with total phenolic, flavonoid, and saponin contents. Moreover, these extracts and their fractions significantly inhibited NO production and the expression of iNOS, COX-2, IL-1β in LPS-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells; among them, hexane fraction exhibited stronger antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects than other fractions. P. fruticosa root, stem, and leaf extracts and their fractions also simultaneously suppressed the ROS formation and enhanced the expression of antioxidant enzyme HO-1 in LPS-stimulated macrophages. These results suggest that P. fruticosa could be a source of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents for prevention and/or treatment of pathological conditions.

Cu-based sulfides have recently emerged as promising thermoelectric (TE) materials due to their low cost, non-toxicity, and abundance. In this research, point defect structure of Cu2-xZnSnS4 (x=0.1, 0.2, 0.3) samples were synthesized by the mechanical alloying method. Mixed powders of Cu, Zn, Sn and S were milled using high energy ball milling at a rotation speed of 300 rpm in Ar atmosphere. The milled Cu2-xZnSnS4 powders were heat-treated at 723 K for 24 h, and subsequently consolidated using spark plasma sintering (SPS) under an applied pressure of 60 MPa for 15 min. The thermal conductivity of the sintered Cu2-xZnSnS4 samples was evaluated. A well-defined Cu2-xZnSnS4 powders were successfully formed after milling for 16 h, with the particle sizes mostly distributed in the range of 60-100 nm. The lattice constants of aand cdecreased with increasing composition value x. The thermal conductivity of sintered x=0.1 sample exhibited the lowest value and attained 0.93 W/m K at 673 K.

<P>This paper presents the first comprehensive survey of 19 novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs) in soil samples collected among five Asian countries. High variability in concentrations of all NBFRs was found in soils with the geometric mean (GM) values ranging from 0.50 ng/g dry weight (dw) in Vietnam to 540 ng/g dw in the vicinity of a BFR manufacturer in China. In urban, rural, and background locations, the GM concentrations of Sigma(19)NBFRs decreased in the order of Japan > South Korea > China > India > Vietnam. Correlations among different NBFR compounds were positive and statistically significant (p < 0.05), suggesting that they originate from similar sources. Evidence for simultaneous application between polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and NBFRs were also noted. Principal component analysis of NBFR concentrations revealed specific pollution sources for different NBFRs coming from urban, BFR-related industrial, and e-waste sites. For the first time, this study demonstrates a 'point source fractionation effect' for NBFRs and PBDEs. The concentrations of all NBFRs and PBDEs were negatively and significantly correlated with the distance from BFR-related industrial and e-waste regions. Positive and significant correlation between population density and NBFR concentrations in soils was identified. Our study revealed that the primary sources effects were stronger than the secondary sources effects in controlling the levels and distribution of NBFRs and PBDEs in soils in these five Asian countries.</P>
Ultrasonic Vibration Assisted Cutting of Nomex Honeycomb Core Materials
Dao‑Hui Xiang,Bang‑Fu Wu,Yun‑Long Yao,Bo Zhao,Jin‑Yuan Tang 한국정밀공학회 2019 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.20 No.1
Nomex honeycomb core materials have been widely used in the aviation industry due to their special structure and performance. Conventional high-speed machining have resulted in the poor machinability of the honeycomb core so that the ultrasonic machining technology was applied. The kinematic characteristics in the ultrasonic vibration assisted cutting process were analyzed according to the movement of the sharp tool. Based on slide effect, a cutting force model was proposed to study the relationship between cutting parameters and cutting force. Ultrasonic vibration assisted cutting and ordinary cutting tests of Nomex honeycomb core material were conducted by considering feed rate, the inclined angle and the deflected angle. Besides, the effects of cutting parameters on machined surface quality of honeycomb core wall were studied. The test results show that slide effect caused by ultrasonic vibrations can reduce cutting resistance compared with ordinary cutting. The developed cutting force model can be applied to evaluated the cutting force in the ultrasonic vibration assisted cutting of Nomex honeycomb core material. The inclined angle has a great influence on the cutting force during ultrasonic vibration assisted cutting. High-speed reciprocating sliding action can effectively cut aramid fibers so that burrs and tearing defects of the incision have been greatly improved under condition of ultrasonic vibration assisted cutting.
Update of Research on Drug Resistance in Small Cell Lung Cancer Chemotherapy
Chen, Yi-Tian,Feng, Bing,Chen, Long-Bang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.8
Small cell lung cancer (SCLC) is characterized by a short cell doubling time, rapid progression and early occurrence of blood-borne and lymph metastasis. The malignancy is the highest of all lung cancer types. Although SCLC has a relatively good initial response to chemotherapy as well as radiotherapy, relapse or disease progression may occur quickly after the initial treatment. Drug resistance, especially multi-drug resistance, is the most important cause of failure of SCLC chemotherapy. This article provides a brief update of research on mechanisms of drug resistance in SCLC and reversal strategies.

( Su Hyun Cho ),( Do Young Kim ),( Min Ju Choi ),( Zhen Long Zheng ),( Hoon Park ),( Dong Sik Bang ) 대한피부과학회 2013 대한피부과학회 학술발표대회집 Vol.65 No.2
Background: Behcet`s disease (BD) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by orogenital ulcers, skin and ocular lesions, in addition to articular, vascular, and neurologic symptoms. Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), a peripheral neuropathy caused by compression of the median nerve, can also occur in BD patients secondary to inflammation in the connective tissues, vessels, and tendons, as well as nerve involvement in BD itself. However, reports of patients who have CTS in BD are rare. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical characteristics of CTS in BD patients. Methods: Retrospective analysis of the medical records of 14 BD patients who were diagnosed with CTS was performed at the BD Specialty Clinic of Severance Hospital. Patient demographics, disease activity/severity for both diseases, and the clinical characteristics of CTS in BD were recorded and analyzed. Results: All 14 BD patients with CTS were women. Twelve patients (85.7%) were diagnosed with active BD. The CTS was mild in 8 patients (57.2%), moderate in 3 patients (21.4%), and severe in 3 patients (21.4%). Ten patients (71.4%) had BD prior to the diagnosis of CTS, and these 10 patients all had active BD. Conclusion: CTS can occur as a result of the inflammation associated with BD and can also be the presenting symptom of nerve involvement in BD. Therefore, a higher degree of suspicion should be maintained for CTS in patients with BD and vice versa; however, the exact relationship is uncertain.
