PSEUDO-PARALLEL REAL HYPERSURFACES IN COMPLEX SPACE FORMS

Lobos, Guillermo A.,Ortega, Miguel Korean Mathematical Society 2004 대한수학회보 Vol.41 No.4

Pseudo-parallel real hypersurfaces in complex space forms can be defined as an extrinsic analogues of pseudo-symmetric real hypersurfaces, that generalize the notion of semi-symmetric real hypersurface. In this paper a classification of the pseudo-parallel real hypersurfaces in a non-flat complex space forms is obtained.

The effectiveness of geosynthetic reinforcement, tamping, and stoneblowing of railtrack ballast beds under dynamic loading: DEM analysis

        Lobo-Guerrero, Sebastian,Vallejo, Luis E. Techno-Press 2010 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.2 No.3

Discrete Element Method (DEM) simulations were developed to investigate the effectiveness of geosynthetic reinforcement and the effectiveness of maintenance techniques performed on a simulated ballast bed subjected to dynamic loading. The results from four samples subjected each one to a total of 425 load cycles are presented: one unreinforced and unmaintained sample, one unmaintained but reinforced sample, one unreinforced sample subjected to maintenance in the form of stoneblowing after 200 load cycles, and one unreinforced sample subjected to maintenance in the form of tamping after 200 load cycles. The obtained values of permanent deformation as a function of the applied number of load cycles for the four cases are presented together allowing a comparison of the effectiveness of each technique. Moreover, snapshots of the simulated track sections are presented at different moments of the simulations. The simulations indicated that the geosynthetic reinforcement may not be beneficial for the analyzed case while stoneblowing was the most effective maintenance technique.

The Stressed Gut: Region-specific Immune and Neuroplasticity Changes in Response to Chronic Psychosocial Stress

        Beatriz Lobo,Mónica Tramullas,Beate-C Finger,Kevin W Lomasney,Caroll Beltran,Gerard Clarke,Javier Santos,Niall P Hyland,Timothy G Dinan,John F Cryan 대한소화기 기능성질환∙운동학회 2023 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.29 No.1

Background/AimsChronic psychological stress affects gastrointestinal physiology which may underpin alterations in the immune response and epithelial transport, both functions are partly regulated by enteric nervous system. However, its effects on enteric neuroplasticity are still unclear. This study aims to investigate the effects of chronic unpredictable psychological stress on intestinal motility and prominent markers of enteric function. MethodsAdult male C57BL/6J mice were exposed to 19 day of unpredictable stress protocol schedule of social defeat and overcrowding. We investigated the effects on plasma corticosterone, food intake, and body weight. In vivo gastrointestinal motility was assessed by fecal pellet output and by whole-gastrointestinal transit (using the carmine red method). Tissue monoamine level, neural and glial markers, neurotrophic factors, monoamine signaling, and Toll-like receptor expression in the proximal and distal colon, and terminal ileum were also assessed. ResultsFollowing chronic unpredictable psychological stress, stressed mice showed increased food intake and body weight gain (P < 0.001), and reduced corticosterone levels (P < 0.05) compared to control mice. Stressed mice had reduced stool output without differences in water content, and showed a delayed gastrointestinal transit compared to control mice (P < 0.05). Stressed mice exhibited decreased mRNA expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (Th), brain-derived neurotrophic factor (Bdnf) and glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (Gdnf), as well as Toll-like receptor 2 (Tlr2) compared to control (P < 0.05), only proximal colon. These molecular changes in proximal colon were associated with higher levels of monoamines in tissue. ConclusionUnpredictable psychological chronic stress induces region-specific impairment in monoamine levels and neuroplasticity markers that may relate to delayed intestinal transit.

      • Poster Session : PS 0012 ; Immunology : Retroperitoneal Fibrosis Related to Periaortitis - When to Think of It?

( Helena Lobo Martns ),( Nadejda Potlog ),( Antonio Marinho ),( Isabel Almeida ),( Carlos Vasconcelos ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Retroperitoneal fi brosis (RF) is a rare condition characterized by the presence of infl ammatory and fi brous retroperitoneal tissue that may be idiopathic or secondary to other causes. Idiopathic RF is part of the spectrum of chronic periaortitis, a condition characterized by infl ammation and fi brosis surrounding the aorta and iliac arteries. The pathogenesis of idiopathic retroperitoneal fi brosis is unclear. The authors report the case of a 66 year-old woman with RF diagnosis related to infrarenal infl ammatory aortitis in 2009, following the study of a hypochromic microcytic anemia and increased infl ammatory parameters, confi rmed by imaging. She has a history of stenosing ileal Crohn`s disease, underwent surgery in 2006, with recurrence of ileal disease two years ago, treated and currently stable. As other relevant pathological antecedents, she contacted patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. She starting anti-tuberculosis therapeutic in September 2009 for nine months, because she has positive Mantoux test. The patient began high-dose corticosteroids with clinical benefi t, however with reduction in dose to about 20mg/day clinical worsening was observed with marked increase in infl ammatory parameters. Azathioprine was added during a short period due to myelosuppression. Subsequently started methotrexate with good response at an early stage but with need to change to cyclosporine due to worsening of infl ammatory parameters. Although there was an initial response to this drug, a sustained analytical and clinical response could only be achieved through the introduction of anti-TNF-alpha (Infl iximab). It was systematically excluded neoplastic, infectious, autoimmune and other infl ammatory diseases. The authors argue the importance of knowing and diagnosing rare diseases such as retroperitoneal fi brosis. It presents insidiously, often making the diagnosis diffi cult, thus you need to think about these diseases for successful diagnose. We point out the importance of knowing the biological drugs as potential therapeutic weapons in these cases.

        Richard Lobo,C. Dinesh Kumar,I. S. R. Punitha,K. Rajendran,Arun Shirwaikar,Annie Shirwaikar 한국생약학회 2006 Natural Product Sciences Vol.12 No.2

study presents a detailed pharmacognostical study of the root and leaf of the crude drugClerodendrum viscosum Vent. (Verbenaceae), an important plant in the Indian system of medicine. The root andleaf samples were studied using light and confocal microscopy, WHO recommended-physicochemicaldeterminations, and authentic phytochemical procedures. The physicochemical, morphological, and histologicalparameters presented in this paper may be proposed as parameters to establish the authenticity of C. viscosum rootand leaf, and may possibly help to diferentiate the drug from its other species.KeywordsClerodendrum viscosum, Verbenaceae, pharmacognosy, root and leaf

      • Poster Session : PS 0703 ; Rheumatology ; Remission of Sweet Syndrome Secondary to Rheumatoid Arthritis Treated with Etanercept

( Helena Lobo Martins ),( Tomas Abrantes Da Fonseca ),( Teresa Sequeira ),( Isabel Almeida ),( Antonio Marinho ),( Carlos Vasconcelos ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술대회 Vol.2014 No.1

Sweet`s syndrome (SS) is the most common acute neutrophilic dermatosis (ND), often idiopathic although it is associated with a wide range of diseases, especially neoplastic, infi ammatory and infectious. We report the case of SS occurring on a 43-year-old woman with a known seronegative rheumatoid arthritis (RA) since 20 year-old. After diagnosis, was treated by NSAIDs, methotrexate (MTX) and gold salts with complete remission. Medication was suspended. In 2002, develops disabling symmetric polyarthritis, unresponsive to corticosteroids, NSAIDs and sulfasalazine. MTX was avoided due to chronic cholestasis (autoantibodies to primary biliary cirrhosis were negative, IRM excluded primary sclerosing cholangitis and liver biopsy without cirrhosis or interface hepatitis). Initiated Anti-TNF alpha monotherapy (Adalimumab) in 2004 with complete remission. Suspended due to pregnancy in 2007 and stayed in remission without drugs until 2014. In 2012, she presented widespread painful mucocutaneous lesions involving the neck, trunk and upper limbs, with fever, arthralgia and deterioration of general condition, compatible with SS. Biopsy confi rmed diagnosis. Systematically excluded tuberculosis, lympho/myeloproliferative and other autoimmune diseases. Executed corticotherapy unsuccessfully, having developed iatrogenic diabetes. Improvement of lesions with dapsone, maintaining tolerable oral lesions. In 2014, worsening cutaneous lesions and initiates cyclosporine without any benefit. Under cyclosporine, progression to disabling oral lesions, and severe polyarthritis with DAS 28 5. 02 (high activity disease). The authors assumed SS secondary to RA and started anti-TNF alpha etanercept. Skin lesions improved within few days, with complete regression of all clinical and laboratory abnormalities. The authors argue the importance to consider SS in differential diagnosis of new mucocutaneus lesions in patients with known autoimmune diseases, including RA. The diagnosis should be based on clinical, laboratory and histological fi ndings of an acute febril neutrophilic dermatosis without vasculitis. In these cases, the treatment with anti-TNF alpha is an option.

Preliminary Study on the Antisnake Venom Activity of Alcoholic Root Extract ofClerodendrum viscosum (Vent.) in Naja naja Venom

        Richard Lobo,I.S.R. Punitha,K. Rajendran,Arun Shirwaikar,Annie Shirwaikar 한국생약학회 2006 Natural Product Sciences Vol.12 No.3

antisnake venom activity of Clerodendrum viscosum Vent. (Fam. Verbenaceae), a plant traditionallyused in India for the treatment of snake bite was evaluated by in vitro and in vivo methods. While in vitro studieswere performed using human blood, in vivo studies were carried out using mice administered three different i.pdoses of the extract, 5 min before the administration of Naja naja snake venom. The results of the in vitro studiesin vivo studies, theextract showed significant antisnake venom activity, which may be attributed to its possible interference with theacetylcholine receptor sites. Hence the present investigation justifies the traditional use of Clerodendrum viscosum(C. viscosum) as antisnake venom. • The effect of analyst forecasts during earnings announcements on investor responses to reported earnings

        Gerald J. Lobo,Minsup Song,Mary Stanford 한국경영학회 2015 한국경영학회 통합학술발표논문집 Vol.2015 No.08

Despite the increased frequency of analyst and management forecasts during earnings announcements, empirical evidence of their effects on investor responses to the earnings announcements is limited. We examine the implications of reinforcing and contradicting analyst forecasts issued during earnings announcements (days 0 and +1) on the market response to unexpected earnings. We classify forecasts as reinforcing when unexpected earnings are positive (negative) and concurrent analyst forecasts are higher (lower) than current year earnings, and as contradicting when unexpected earnings are positive (negative) and concurrent analyst forecasts are lower (higher) than current year earnings. We document greater earnings response coefficients for announcements accompanied by reinforcing analyst forecasts. Similarly, we find greater market responses to earnings announcements when management forecasts are reinforcing. These findings suggest that analyst forecasts at the time of earnings announcement provide incremental information regarding future earnings and that analyst and management forecasts convey complementary information about earnings announcements.

      • An Analysis of Factors that Affect Out of School Junior High Aged Children Using Logistic Regression Method

        Robertus Guntur,Maria, Lobo APEC국제교육협력원 2015 Asia-Pacific Cybereducation Journal Vol.11 No.2

East Nusa Tenggara (ENT) is one of seven provinces in the eastern region of Indonesia that contribute to the large number of out of school children (OOSC). A research study has been carried out to investigate the characteristics of OOSC and to determine the statistical model explaining factors that influence the OOSC occurrence in the age group 13 – 15 years in ENT. Data of OOSC were obtained from the Education Department and Regional Planning Board in 6 selected districts in ENT that were produced from the community based education information system (CBEIS) survey in coordination with UNICEF Kupang in 2013. The districts were Sikka, Timor Tengah Selatan (TTS), West Sumba, East Sumba, Central Sumba and the City of Kupang. A response variable of the study was the state of the children’s education with the category ‘yes’ for school and ‘no’ for out of school. Data was then analysed using descriptive analysis and multiple logistic regression method. The analysis shows that there were 795 OOSC in 10350 children in the junior high school age group. The majority of them are males, living in the country side, have farmer parents, are from families with wealth quintile on the bottom class and have mothers with no education. Logistic analysis on the best model shows that literacy, working status, disability, occupation of household heads, wealth quintile, possession of birth certificate, living status are the factors that significantly affect the number of OOSC in the 13-15 age group. Odds ratio values of the first three factors are 26.5; 12.8 and 7.5 respectively.
