        <P>Small peptides carrying laterally-grafted azobenzene units self-assemble into photo-responsive hydrogels which are applied as a smart matrix for controlling the dye molecules release.       • Combined Effects Methylation of FHIT, RASSF1A and RARβ Genes on Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in the Chinese Population

        Epigenetic modifications of tumour suppressor genes are involved in all kinds of human cancer. Aberrant promoter methylation is also considered to play an essential role in development of lung cancer, but the pathogenesis remains unclear.We collected the data of 112 subjects, including 56 diagnosed patients with lung cancer and 56 controls without cancer. Methylation of the FHIT, RASSF1A and RAR-${\beta}$ genes in DNA from all samples and the corresponding gene methylation status were assessed using the methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR, MSP). The results showed that the total frequency of separate gene methylation was significantly higher in lung cancer compared with controls (33.9-85.7 vs 0 %) (p<0.01).Similar outcomes were obtained from the aberrant methylation of combinations of any two or three genes (p<0.01). There was a tendency that the frequency of combinations of any two or three genes was higher in stage I+II than that in stage III+IV with lung cancer. However, no significant difference was found across various clinical stages and clinic pathological gradings of lung cancer (p>0.05).These observations suggest that there is a significant association of promoter methylation of individual genes with lung cancer risk, and that aberrant methylation of combination of any two or three genes may be associated with clinical stage in lung cancer patients and involved in the initiation of lung cancer tumorigenesis. Methylation of FHIT, RASSF1A and $RAR{\beta}$ genes may be related to progression of lung oncogenesis.

        Risk Factors for the Rupture of Bifurcation Intracranial Aneurysms Using CT Angiography

        Purpose: To investigate the clinical and morphological characteristics in relation to risk of bifurcation intracranial aneurysm rupture. Materials and Methods: Data from 202 consecutive patients with 219 bifurcation aneurysms (129 ruptured and 90 unruptured) managed at the authors’ facility between August 2011 and July 2014 were retrospectively reviewed. Based on their clinical records and CT angiographic findings, the ability of risk factors to predict aneurysm rupture was assessed using statistical methods. Results: Age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and cerebral atherosclerosis were negatively correlated with aneurysm rupture. Aneurysms located in the middle cerebral artery, daughter artery ratio, lateral angle ratio (LA ratio), and neck width were negativelycorrelated with rupture. Aneurysms located in the anterior communicating artery, irregularity, with daughter sac, depth, width, maximum size, aspect ratio (AR), depth-to-width ratio, and bottleneck factor were significantly and positively correlated with rupture. Binary logistic regression model revealed that irregular shape [odds ratio (OR) 6.598] and AR (OR 3.507) strongly increasedthe risk of bifurcation aneurysm rupture, while age (OR 0.434), cerebral atherosclerosis (OR 0.125), neck width (OR 0.771), and LA ratio (OR 0.267) were negatively correlated with rupture (p<0.05). Receiver operating characteristic analysis revealedthe threshold values of AR and LA ratio to be 1.18 and 1.50, respectively. Conclusion: Age (≥60 yr), cerebral atherosclerosis, and aneurysms with a larger neck width and larger LA ratio are protective factorsagainst bifurcation aneurysm rupture. An aneurysm with an irregular shape and an increased AR reflect the greater likelihoodof a rupture.

        A Study on the Relationship between Board Structure and Financial Risk in Chinese Manufacturing Companies

        재무위험의 존재가 기업의 생명을 위협하기 때문에 재무위험에 대한 연구는 재무회계분야에서 중요한 문제이다. 기업의 부적절한 재무위험 관리는 경영을 위기에 처하게 한다. 기업의 재무위험은 내부 또는 외부에 여러 가지 요인에 의해 발생시키며 하나의 예로, 불합리한 기업의 지배구조이다. 기업의 지배구조의 핵심으로서 이사회는 투자자를 대표하여 기업의 임원을 감독하므로 기업은 재무위험에 대하여 필연적인 책임을 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 이사회 구조와 재무위험에 관한 관계를 연구하였다. 즉, 이사회 규모, 직위 설정, 회의 빈도 및 지분율의 4가지 이사회 구조와 기업 재무위험 관계를 이론 및 실증적으로 분석하였다. 본 연구는 2011-2018년 동안 중국 상하이 및 선전 주식 시장에서 A주 제조 기업을 대상으로 이사회 구조가 기업의 재무위험 수준에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 이를 위해 기술적 통계와 상관관계 및 선형회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 이사회 구조는 재무위험에 많은 영향을 미친다는 것을 확인했다. 이사회 규모, 회의 빈도는 기업의 재무위험과 유의한 양(+)의 관계가 있는 것으로 나타난 반면, 지분율은 재무위험에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다. 직위 설정과 재무위험 사이에는 부(-)의 값이 나타났으나 통계적으로는 유의하지 않았다. 본 연구는 이사회의 규모, 직위 설정, 회의 빈도 및 지분율에 대한 본 연구의 결과를 토대로 기업의 이사회 구조 개선과 재무위험을 줄이는 방법을 설명하고 재무위험을 줄이기 위한 제안과 앞으로의 연구방향을 제시하였다. The study of financial risk is a critical issue in financial accounting because the existence of financial risk threatens the life of the enterprise. Improper handling of financial risks by companies puts business at risk. A company"s financial risk is caused by several internal or external factors such as unreasonable corporate governance structure. As the core of corporate governance, the board of directors supervises the executives of the company on behalf of the investor. So, the company is inevitably responsible for financial risk. Therefore, this study studied the relationship between board structure and financial risk. This study theoretically and empirically analyzes the relationship between board structure and corporate financial risk using four aspects which are board size, board position setting, board meeting frequency, and board share ratio. This study selected A-share manufacturing companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen stock markets in China during 2011-2018. In addition, descriptive statistics, correlation coefficient analysis, and linear regression analysis were used to study the impact of the board structure on corporate financial risks. This study found that the board structure of manufacturing companies had a greater impact on financial risk than other factors. board size and the frequency of board meetings also showed a significant correlation with the company"s financial risk. Shareholding ratio of board of directors was not significant for financial risk. There was an inverse correlation between board position setting and financial risk, but it was not statistically significant. Based on the results of this study, this study explains how to improve the company"s board structure and reduce financial risks and suggests proposals to reduce financial risks and further research direction.

        Wideband Differentially Fed Circularly Polarized Slotted Patch Antenna with a Large Beamwidth

        A wideband differentially fed circularly polarized (CP) antenna featuring a slotted patch design with a large beamwidth is presented. The final design of the differentially fed CP antenna, aimed at achieving high gain and a wide axial ratio (AR) bandwidth, involves coupling a differential bending dipole antenna to the slotted patch in the same plane. The presented differentially fed CP antenna demonstrates characteristics of a large AR beamwidth, as verified by simulation and experiment. The measured AR beamwidths of 132.3° in the xoz plane (phi = 0°) and 116.2° in the yoz plane (phi = 90°) are realized at 5.5 GHz. The measured result exhibits broadband performance with a -10-dB impedance bandwidth of 78.8% (3.81–8.76 GHz), a 3-dB AR bandwidth of 36.7% (4.78–6.93 GHz), and a maximum gain of 10.2 dBic.

        Microfluidic fabrication of microparticles for biomedical applications

        <P>Droplet microfluidics offers exquisite control over the flows of multiple fluids in microscale, enabling fabrication of advanced microparticles with precisely tunable structures and compositions in a high throughput manner. The combination of these remarkable features with proper materials and fabrication methods has enabled high efficiency, direct encapsulation of actives in microparticles whose features and functionalities can be well controlled. These microparticles have great potential in a wide range of bio-related applications including drug delivery, cell-laden matrices, biosensors and even as artificial cells. In this review, we briefly summarize the materials, fabrication methods, and microparticle structures produced with droplet microfluidics. We also provide a comprehensive overview of their recent uses in biomedical applications. Finally, we discuss the existing challenges and perspectives to promote the future development of these engineered microparticles.</P>

      • Association of Methylation of the RAR-β Gene with Cigarette Smoking in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer with Southern-central Chinese Population

        Pathogenesis of lung cancer is a complicated biological process including multiple genetic and epigenetic changes. Since cigarette smoking is confirmed as the most main risk factor of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), the aim of this study was to determine whether tobacco exposure plays a role in gene methylation. Methylation of the RAR-${\beta}$ gene were detected using methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction in DNA from 167 newly diagnosed cases with NSCLC and corresponding 105 controls. A significant statistical association was found in the detection rate of the promoter methylation of RAR-${\beta}$ gene between NSCLC and controls ($x^2$=166.01; p<0.01), and hypermethylation of the RAR-${\beta}$ gene was significantly associated with smoking status (p=0.038, p<0.05). No relationship was found between RAR-${\beta}$ gene methylation and pathologic staging including clinical stage, cell type, gender and drinking (p>0.05), and the methylation of RAR-${\beta}$ gene rate of NSCLC was slightly higher in stages III+IV (80.0%) than in I+II (70.8%). Similar results were obtained for methylation of the RAR-${\beta}$ gene between squamous cell carcinoma (77.9%) and other cell type lung cancer (73.9%). These results showed that the frequency of methylation increased gradually with the development of clinical stage in smoking-associated lung cancer patients, and tobacco smoke may be play a potential role in RAR-${\beta}$ gene methylation in the early pathogenesis and process in lung cancer, particularly squamous cell carcinoma. Aberrant promoter methylation is considered to be a promising marker of previous carcinogen exposure and cancer risk.

        The Effect of Postural Correction and Visual Feedback on Muscle Activity and Head Position Change During Overhead Arm Lift Test in Subjects with Forward Head Posture

        Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the immediate effects of posture correction and real-time visual feedback using a video display on muscle activity and change of head position during overhead arm lift test in individuals with forward head posture. Methods: Fifteen subjects with forward head posture and fifteen normal subjects who volunteered were included in this study. During both groups performed the overhead arm lift test, the muscle activity of the upper trapezius, serratus anterior, sternocleidomastoid, and lower trapezius muscle were measured using electromyography, and head position change was measured using photographs. Then, forward head posture group was asked to perform overhead arm lift test again after posture correction and real-time visual feedback using a video display respectively. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze four conditions: pre-test, posture correction, real-time visual feedback, and the control group. Results: The upper trapezius and lower trapezius muscle activity significantly decreased posture correction, real-time visual feedback, and control group than pre-test of forward head posture group (p<0.05). The sternocleidomastoid muscle significantly decreased realtime visual feedback and control group than pre-test of forward head posture group. Head position change significantly decreased three conditions than pre-test of forward head posture group and real-time visual feedback and control group significantly decreased than posture correction. Conclusion: This study recommend for maintaining cervical stability during the overhead arm lift test, postural control using real-time visual feedback is more effective in subjects with forward head posture
