        First-principles calculations of the effect of Ge content on the electronic, mechanical and acoustic properties of Li17Si4-xGex

        The electronic, mechanical and acoustic properties of Li17Si4-xGex (x=0, 2.3, 3.08, 3.53, and 4) have been investigated by using first-principles calculations based on the density functional theory (DFT). The research shows that the bulk modulus B, Young's modulus E, shear modulus G, and hardness Hv gradually decrease with the increasing Ge content. Li17Si4-xGex have the brittle nature from the analysis of B/G ratio and Cauchy pressure. The maximum Young's moduli are all along [1 1 0] plane, and the sequence of degree of anisotropic property is Li17Ge4 > Li17Si0.48Ge3.52 > Li17Si0.92Ge3.08 > Li17Si1.7Ge2.3 > Li17Si4. The analysis of acoustic velocity shows that all the sound velocities decrease with the increasing Ge content for Li17Si4-xGex (x=0, 2.3, 3.08, 3.53, and 4), and the longitudinal wave along [111] direction is fastest for the studied compounds. Debye temperature ΘD, vt and vl decrease with the increasing Ge content. The minimum thermal conductivity decreases with the increasing Ge content, and Li17Si4-xGex have low thermal conductivities and are not potential thermal conductors. The analysis of electronic properties indicates that Li17Si4-xGex have the metal nature and anisotropic electrical conductivity. The electric conduction is improved with the increasing Ge content.

        Structure and Performances of xLiFePO4/C·(1 − x)Li3V2(PO4)3/C Cathode for Lithium-Ion Batteries by Using Poly(vinyl alcohol) as Carbon Source

        Poly(vinyl alcohol), whose pyrolysis carbon possesses high conductivity of 8.88 × 10−1 S/cm, was used to synthesize xLiFePO4/C·(1 − x)Li3V2(PO4)3/C cathode. It was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, conductivity, cyclic voltammetry, and galvanostatic charge and discharge experiments. Results show that LiFePO4/C and Li3V2(PO4)3/C coexists in the cathode. The particles sizes of 0.75LiFePO4/C·0.25Li3V2(PO4)3/C (x = 0.75) are much smaller than 100 nm due to the role of poly(vinyl alcohol). Its conductivity is 8.79 × 10−2 S/cm. The oxidative and reductive peaks in cyclic voltammetry are sharp and symmetrical. Their low potential gaps indicate that the extractions and insertions of lithium ion possess excellent reversibility. Its discharge capacities at 1 and 5 C are 141.1 and 100.1 mAh/g. The more Li3V2(PO4)3/C in cathode results in the deterioration of electrochemical performances due to its low theoretical capacity. It is concluded that poly(vinyl alcohol) is an effective carbon source in the preparation of xLiFePO4/C·(1 − x)Li3V2(PO4)3/C composite cathode with excellent performances.

      • A Novel Molecular Grading Model: Combination of Ki67 and VEGF in Predicting Tumor Recurrence and Progression in Non-invasive Urothelial Bladder Cancer

        Purpose: To assess efficacy of Ki67 combined with VEGF as a molecular grading model to predict outcomes with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). Materials: 72 NMIBC patients who underwent transurethral resection (TUR) followed by routine intravesical instillations were retrospectively analyzed in this study. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to confirm the prognostic values of the Ki67 labeling index (LI) and VEGF scoring for tumor recurrence and progression. Results: The novel molecular grading model for NMIBC contained three molecular grades including mG1 (Ki67 $LI{\leq}25%$, VEGF $scoring{\leq}8$), mG2 (Ki67 LI>25%, VEGF $scoring{\leq}8$; or Ki67 $LI{\leq}25%$, VEGF scoring > 8), and mG3 (Ki67 LI > 25%, VEGF scoring > 8), which can indicate favorable, intermediate and poor prognosis, respectively. Conclusions: The described novel molecular grading model utilizing Ki67 LI and VEGF scoring is helpful to effectively and accurately predict outcomes and optimize personal therapy.

        Improved lithium storage performance of CeO2-decorated SrLi2Ti6O14 material as an anode for Li-ion battery

        In this work, the CeO2-decorated SrLi2Ti6O14 anode was successfully prepared through a solid-state process. The space-charge effect induced by the internal adsorption of ions on the CeO2 surface can easilyresult in a formation of an excellent conductive interfacial layer between CeO2 and SrLi2Ti6O14. The goodelectrical contact between CeO2 and SrLi2Ti6O14 offers more active sites for the electrolyte storage andredox reaction, and promotes the intercalation/deintercalation of lithium ions, and thus improves therate performance and cycle stability. Due to its unique structure and composition, the CeO2-decoratedSrLi2Ti6O14 composites exhibit high reversible capacities, good cycle performance and outstanding rateperformance. Especially, the CeO2 (5 wt%)-decorated SrLi2Ti6O14 anode shows the most excellent electrochemicalperformance, which delivers a large charge capacity of 121.3 mAh g 1 and a capacity retentionof 94.48% after 100 cycles at 0.5 A g 1. However, the corresponding charge capacity and capacity retentionof pristine SrLi2Ti6O14 are 100.5 mAh g 1 and 86.77%, respectively. The CeO2(5 wt%)-decoratedSrLi2Ti6O14 with enhanced rate capacity, cycle stability and structural stability is a potential electrodematerial candidate for Li-ion battery.

        Feminism in Mrs. Dalloway and the Enlightenment

        버지니아 울프의 ‘델레웨이 부인’은 작가의 이야기 전달 방식인 의식의 흐름 기법으로 쓰여진 전형적인 소설임과 동시에 여성에 관한 울프의 시각을 반영하는 페미니즘 소설이다. 울프는 이 작품 에서 당시 영국 지배계층의 우둔함을 묘사함으로써 그들의 생활 모습을 생생하게 드러내고 있다. 그리고 그 지배계층 속에는 남성에 대한 극단적인 모습이 그려지는데 즉,그 어느 것 보다도 우선시 되는 왕권에 대한 맹목적인 찬양과 충성심으로 대변되는 남성에 대한 극단적인 모습으로 가득 채워져 있다. 그러한 당시 사회 분위기는 다른 사람의 삶을 방관한 체 편안한 삶을 쫓아 살다 결국,삶을 포기하는 사람들을 만들어 내는가 하면 반면에 자살까지 감행할 정도로 우울증에 시달리는 일종의 희생자라고 할 수 있는 사람들을 양산하게 되었다. 울프는 이러한 문제를 알고 있었지만 여성에 대한 적절한 해결책을 찾을 수는 없었다. 1세기 후,전 세계적으로 페미니즘에 대한 의식이 발전되어 왔지만,울프가 제기 한 100년 전의 문제점에 대한 적절한 해결책이 마련되었는가? 이 논문에서는 위에 언급한 이러한 문제들에 대해 논의하고자 한다. Feminism, a very simple word, but has profound meanings and when you go into depth of it, you will sense a complex and mixture feeling of it. Everyone seems has his or her own opinion and view on it. As the society is coming forward, the feminism is developing too. The publishing of Sexual Politics written by Kate Millet is generally thought to be the symbol of Feminism Literary Theory. But, actually, in 1929, Virginia Woolf's a room of one's own has already brought forward many serious problems about women and literary through its exaggerating and irony style and since the feminism literary theory took shape.(1) Now, we can find so many branches about feminism, not only in the field of literary, including Cultural Feminism, Erotic Feminism, Eco-Feminism, Individualist, or Libertarian Feminism, Liberal Feminism, and so on. Here, this article just will explain the view on feminism through Mrs. Dalloway. First this article is to introduce Virginia Woolf and her background of writing Mrs. Dalloway.

      • Photoluminescence of rare earth ions coactivated Ca<sub>9</sub>Y(VO<sub>4</sub>)<sub>7</sub> with cold, natural and warm white emission

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>It has been still a challenge to obtain a new single-component white-light phosphor with the vanadates as host lattices and with two types of ions as activators. A systematic Ln<SUB>1</SUB> <SUP>3+</SUP>/Ln<SUB>2</SUB> <SUP>3+</SUP> (Ln<SUB>1</SUB> <SUP>3+</SUP>/Ln<SUB>2</SUB> <SUP>3+</SUP> = Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>/Tm<SUP>3+</SUP> or Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>/Sm<SUP>3+</SUP> or Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>/Eu<SUP>3+</SUP> or Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>/Eu<SUP>3+</SUP> or Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>/Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>) coactivated Ca<SUB>9</SUB>Y(VO<SUB>4</SUB>)<SUB>7</SUB> (CYV)samples as well as their singly doped CYV phosphors have been synthesized by the traditional solid state reaction and their photoluminescence properties have been investigated. The photoluminescence properties as a function of the concentration of rare earth ions have been discussed and the tunable luminescent color was found. The warm (CYV: 1%Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>, 1%Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>), natural (CYV: 7% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>,0.5% Eu<SUP>3+</SUP>; CYV: 1.0% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>, 0.5% Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>), and cold (CYV: 3% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>,0.5% Eu<SUP>3+</SUP>; CYV: 0.5% Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>,0.5% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>; CYV: 0.5% Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>,0.7% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>; CYV: 0.3%Dy<SUP>3+</SUP>, 0.5% Tm<SUP>3+</SUP>) white lights can be obtained.         Cell surface vimentin-targeted monoclonal antibody 86C increases sensitivity to temozolomide in glioma stem cells

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most prevalent and aggressive brain tumor. The current standard therapy, which includes radiation and chemotherapy, is frequently ineffective partially because of drug resistance and poor penetration of the blood-brain barrier. Reducing resistance and increasing sensitivity to chemotherapy may improve outcomes. Glioma stem cells (GSCs) are a source of relapse and chemoresistance in GBM; sensitization of GSCs to temozoliomide (TMZ), the primary chemotherapeutic agent used to treat GBM, is therefore integral for therapeutic efficacy. We previously discovered a unique tumor-specific target, cell surface vimentin (CSV), on patient-derived GSCs. In this study, we found that the anti-CSV monoclonal antibody 86C efficiently increased GSC sensitivity to TMZ. The combination TMZ+86C induced significantly greater antitumor effects than TMZ alone in eight of 12 GSC lines. TMZ+86C–sensitive GSCs had higher CSV expression overall and faster CSV resurfacing among CSV<SUP>−</SUP> GSCs compared with TMZ+86C–resistant GSCs. Finally, TMZ+86C increased apoptosis of tumor cells and prolonged survival compared with either drug alone in GBM mouse models.         Spontaneous Sm<sup>3+</sup>→Sm<sup>2+</sup> reduction ability of MAl<sub>2</sub>Si<sub>2</sub>O<sub>8</sub> (M = Sr, Ba): Sm

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In air atmosphere, the spontaneous reduction abilities of Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>→Sm<SUP>2+</SUP> in Sm ions doped monoclinic SrAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (SASO) and BaAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (M-BASO) as well as hexagonal BaAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (H-BASO) are investigated. Sm ions doped MAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (M = Sr, Ba) samples were synthesized using Pechini-type sol-gel technology and sintered in air atmosphere and reducing condition, respectively. By comparing the photoluminescence properties of Sm doped MAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (M = Sr, Ba) calcined in air with that in reducing condition, the spontaneous reduction of Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>→Sm<SUP>2+</SUP> can be detected only in the host lattice H-BASO. The essential that makes the reduction of Sm<SUP>3+</SUP> to Sm<SUP>2+</SUP> was investigated by calculating their chemical bonds parameter quantitatively. The important key environmental factor of Ba<SUP>2+</SUP> in H-BASO is the largest among the three samples MAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB>. It indicates that the hexagonal H-BASO sample is the easiest one to realize the spontaneous reduction of Sm<SUP>3+</SUP>→Sm<SUP>2+</SUP> among Sm doped MAl<SUB>2</SUB>Si<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>8</SUB> (M = Sr, Ba) samples. The needed energy transferring one electron of the ligand to the central ions Sm<SUP>3+</SUP> in H-BASO:Sm is the lowest. The theoretical analysis agrees well with the experimental result.       • Expression of Endogenous Hypoxia Markers in Vulvar Squamous Cell Carcinoma

        Objective: To investigate the expression of endogenous hypoxia-related markers identified as being involved in vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC). Methods: We performed immunohistochemical staining of hypoxia-inducible factor-$1{\alpha}$ (HIF-$1{\alpha}$), glucose transporter-1 (GLUT-1), carbonic anhydrase 9 (CA-9) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), on tissue sections of 25 VSCC patients, 10 vulvar intraepithelial neoplasia (VIN) patients and 12 healthy controls. Results: HIF-$1{\alpha}$ expression was found in all sections, with no significant difference between controls, VIN and VSCC sections (all P<0.05). Glut-1 expression was found in 25% of control, 90% of VIN and 100% of VSCC sections. A significant difference between control and VIN or VSCC was observed (all P<0.05), while no difference was found between VIN and VSCC sections (P>0.05). CA-9 expression was negative in control sections, but it was found in 30% of VIN sections and 52% of VSCC sections with strong staining. Similarly, CA-9 expression also showed obvious differences between controls and VIN or VSCC sections (all P<0.05). However, there was no significant difference between VIN and VSCC (P>0.05). There were only 25% of control sections with weak VEGF expression, while strong staining was found in about 60% of VIN sections and 25% of VSCC sections (all P<0.05). In addition, a difference was also found between VIN and VSCC sections (P<0.05). Conclusion: Expression of endogenous hypoxia markers (HIF-$1{\alpha}$, GLUT-1, CA-9 and VEGF) might be involved in the malignant progression of VSCC.
