Oxide dispersion strengthened tungsten heavy alloys have been used in a wide variety of industrial and military applications due to their high density, strength and stiffness. These alloys have been produced by mechanical alloying, which can provide uniform distribution of nano-oxide particles and an extremely fine grain structure, resulting in the reduction of the sintering temperature. However, the high-energy ball-milling process could introduce iron contamination from the vial and milling media during the procedure. In this study, the W-Ni-Y2O3 alloy was investigated as a function of milling time. The results show that the increase of the Fe/Ni ratio has a significant influence on the microstructural development and material properties. The XRD data reveal considerable solid solubility extension in these powders. The tungsten carbide and iron rich intermetallic compounds were formed after long milling times, which can change the relative density and hardness of the alloy. It is essential that we understand the role of intermetallic phases in the ODS tungsten heavy alloy which determine the material properties and the control of microstructural development.

In continuation of our research to find biological components from Panax stipuleanatus, four oleanane-type triterpenes (12 to 15) were isolated successively. Fifteen oleanane-type saponins (1 to 15) were evaluated for nuclear factor (NF)-κB activity using a luciferase reporter gene assay in HepG2 cells. Compounds 6 to 11 inhibited NF-κB, with IC50 values between 3.1 to 18.9 μM. The effects on inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase-2 by compounds 8, 10, and 11 were also examined using reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Three compounds (8, 10, and 11) inhibited NF-κB activity by reducing the concentration of inflammatory factors in HepG2 cells.

Guibi-tang is a traditional medicine used for the treatment of colds. We investigated the levels of several compounds in Guibi-tang before and after fermentation with Lactobacillus and tested their ability to inhibit angiotensin-converting enzyme. Six known compounds (decursin, decursinol angelate, nodakenin, liquiritin, formononetin, and 6-gingerol) and 2 unidentified compounds were detected in Guibi-tang (GB) and fermented Guibi-tang (FGB) by an established HPLC-DAD method. The levels of the 6 known compounds were decreased after fermentation. FGB showed more potent inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme activity than GB. In conclusion, fermentation with Lactobacillus affects the content of several compounds in GB and improves its angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitory activity.

In continuation of our research to find biological components from Panax stipuleanatus, four oleanane-type triterpenes (12 to 15) were isolated successively. Fifteen oleanane-type saponins (1 to 15) were evaluated for nuclear factor (NF)-${\kappa}B$ activity using a luciferase reporter gene assay in HepG2 cells. Compounds 6 to 11 inhibited NF-${\kappa}B$, with $IC_{50}$ values between 3.1 to 18.9 ${\mu}M$. Purpose The paper tested the – relationship between the stock markets of the Middle East and the USA with the oil price and US dollar index as threshold variables. Research design, data, and methodology – The stock price indices of the USA, the Middle East (Abu Dhabi, Jordan), WTI spot crude oil price, and US dollar index were daily returns in the research period from May 21, 2001 to August 9, 2012. Following Hansen (1999), the panel threshold regression model was used. Results – With the US dollar index as the threshold variable, a negative relationship existed between the stock price indices of Jordan and the USA but no significant result was found between the stock price indices of Abu Dhabi and the USA. Conclusions – The USA is an economic power today:even if it has a closer relationship with the US stock market, the dynamic US economy can learn about subsequent developments and plan in advance. Conversely, if it has an estranged relationship with the US stock market, thinking in a different direction and different investment strategies will achieve good results

Tungsten-based alloys doped with the 10 wt% FeCoNiCu medium entropy alloy (MEA) binder were fabricated by mechanicalalloying. The role of the Cu-containing MEA binder and sintering temperatures (1250–1450℃) on the synthesis, sinteringbehavior, and mechanical properties of the model tungsten alloys were investigated. The results demonstrate that thesolid-to-liquid phase transition during sintering was strongly influenced by the presence of Cu in the binder and sinteringtemperatures. A good combination of high compressive strength (2080 MPa), failure strain (42%), and hardness (419 HV)was achieved at the low sintering temperature (1250 ℃), which promoted a fined grain structure with semisolid state sintering. However, Fe-rich oxide layers were formed along the grain boundaries at the high sintering temperature (1450 ℃)and caused a poor bonding strength between the binder phase and W matrix, thereby resulting in significant degradation ofmechanical properties.

Purpose - The oil price affects company value, which is the present value of the expected cash flow, by affecting the discount rate and cash flow. This study examines the nonlinear relationships between oil price and stock price using the AlphaShares Chinese Volatility Index as the threshold. Research design, data, and methodology – Data comprise daily closing values of the Shanghai Stock Exchange Composite Index, Shenzhen Stock Exchange Composite Index, and Hang Seng Index of ChinaWest Texas Intermediate crude oil spot price and AlphaShares Chinese Volatility Index from May 25, 2007 to May 24, 2012. The Threshold Error Correction Model is used. Results - The results demonstrate different relationships between the stock price index and oil price under different investor sentiments; however, the stock price index and oil price could adjust to a long-term equilibrium the long-term causality tests between them were all significant. Conclusions - The relationship between the WTI and HANG SENG Index is more significant than the Shanghai Composites Index and Shenzhen Composite Index, when using the AlphaShares Chinese Volatility Index (ASC-VIX) as the investor sentiment variable and threshold.
