Dichlorodiphenoxytrichloroethane (DDT), a persistent organic pollutant and hepatotoxicant, is used to control the malaria. However, scarce information exists on relevant effective inhibitors of DDT’ toxicity. The aim of this study was to investigate protective effects of natural antioxidants vitamin C (VC) or/and vitamin E (VE) on p,pʹ-DDT-induced genotoxicity and hepatotoxicity in human liver cells. p,pʹ-DDT exposure increased levels of chromatin condensation, comet parameter, micronucleus induction and DPC coefficient of HL-7702 cells in a dose-dependent manner. Also, an increase in mRNA levels of CYP1A1 as well as CYP3A4, and a decrease in UGT along with GST were observed. Interestingly, supplementation with VC or/and VE prevented p,pʹ-DDT-caused alterations in DNA damage and phase metabolism gene expressions, and the combination of VC and VE had a more protective effect than VC or VE alone. These findings illustrated that VC or/and VE could be beneficial for the alleviation of p,pʹ-DDT-incurred toxicity in human liver cells.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Background</B></P> <P>To determine the predictive value of preoperative lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR) for pathological and survival outcomes in upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) after radical nephroureterectomy (RNU).</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>This retrospective study included 704 UTUC patients between 2008 and 2017. We used a cutoff LMR of 3.6 to evaluate its relationship with oncological outcomes after RNU, using the Kaplan–Meier method and logistic regression models.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>During median follow-up of 39 months, decreased preoperative LMR was an independent predictor of poor pathological outcomes. Kaplan–Meier analysis revealed that patients with low LMR (<3.6) had poor cancer-specific survival (CSS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and overall survival (OS); this prognostic value was ascertained for patients with high pathological grade and more advanced stage UTUC, but not for patients with low pathological features. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards model revealed that low LMR was an independent predictor of poor CSS, RFS and OS [hazard ratio (HR) = 1.42, <I>P</I> = 0.02; HR = 1.39, <I>P</I> = 0.008; HR = 1.38, <I>P</I> = 0.017, respectively].</P> <P><B>Conclusion</B></P> <P>Preoperative low LMR was an independent predictor of poor pathological and oncological outcomes of UTUC after RNU. Dietary exposure and human risk assessment of phthalate esters based on total diet study in Cambodia

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Phthalate esters are used in a wide variety of consumer products, and human exposure to this class of compounds is widespread. Nevertheless, studies on dietary exposure of human to phthalates are limited. In this study, to assess the daily intakes of phthalate esters and the possible adverse health impacts, different food samples were collected from three areas of Cambodia, one of the poorest countries in the world. The ∑phthalate ester concentrations in Kampong Cham, Kratie and Kandal provinces ranged from 0.05 to 2.34 (median 0.88) μgg<SUP>−1</SUP>, 0.19–1.65 (median 0.86) μgg<SUP>−1</SUP> and 0.24–3.05 (median 0.59) μgg<SUP>−1</SUP> wet weight (ww), respectively. Di-2-Ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) and diisobutyl phthalate (DiBP) were the predominant compounds among all foodstuffs. The estimated daily intake (EDI) of phthalate esters for the general population in Kampong Cham, Kratie and Kandal was 34.3, 35.6 and 35.8μgkg<SUP>−1</SUP> bw d<SUP>−1</SUP>, respectively. The dietary daily intake of DEHP, benzylbutyl phthalate (BBP) and di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) in Kampong Cham, Kratie and Kandal were below the tolerable daily intakes (TDI) imposed by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and reference doses (RfD) imposed by The United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). Rice contributed the greatest quantity of DEHP to the daily intake in Cambodia so may deserve further exploration. To our knowledge, this is the first study to investigate the occurrence and the daily intakes of phthalate esters in Cambodia.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Phthalate esters concentration in daily foodstuffs collected from Cambodia. </LI> <LI> Investigate the bioaccessbility of phthalate esters via the foodstuffs consumption. </LI> <LI> Health risk evaluation of dietary exposure to phthalate esters. </LI> </UL> </P>
Toll-like Receptor3-mediated Induction of Chemokines in Salivary Epithelial Cells

Toll-like receptors (TLRs) functionally expressed in salivary epithelial cells, but their roles remain elusive. Among TLRs family, TLR3 is activated by dsRNA, a byproduct of viral infection. The aim of this study was to investigate the role of TLR3 in the inflammatory immune responses using HSG cells. Reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), real-time PCR and ELISA were performed to identify expression of TLRs and TLR3-mediated chemokine inductions. The chemotaxis assay of activated T lymphocytes was also performed. Treatment of HSG cells with polyinosinic: polycytidylic acid (poly(I:C)) significantly increased interferon-$\gamma$-inducible protein 10 (IP-10), interferoninducible T-cell $\alpha$ chemoattractant (I-TAC), and regulated on activation, normal T-cells expressed and secreted (RANTES) gene expressions in a concentration-dependent manner. Anti-TLR3 antibody blocked the increases of IP-10 and I-TAC genes. Poly(I:C)-induced increases of IP-10 and I-TAC were also confirmed at protein levels from cell lysates, but their release into extracellular medium was detected only in IP-10. We found that the culture media from HSG cells stimulated with poly(I:C) significantly increases T lymphocyte migration. Our results suggest that TLR3 plays an important role in chemokine induction, particularly IP-10, in salivary epithelial cells.

It is known that there are no real hypersurfaces with parallel Ricci tensor in a nonflat complex space form ([6], [9]). In this paper we investigate real hypersurfaces in a complex projective space P_(n)C using some conditions of the Ricci tensor S which are weaker than ▽S = 0. We characterize Hopf hypersurfaces of P_(n)C.
Processing of high conductive Bi2O3/8YSZ composites as SOFC electrolyte

Dual-phasic composites consisted of continuous Bi2O3 matrix and 8 mol% yttria stabilized zirconia particulates were prepared by solid-state-sintering or liquid-phase-sintering, and investigated over the temperature range between 250-650 oC to reveal good electrical conductivity and matched thermal expansion to the components used for intermediate-temperature solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC). Interface reactions occurred during sintering either at 750 oC or 900 oC could enhance the diffusion of Zr, Y and Bi ions, to form effective diffusion zone for stabilizing δ-Bi2O3 matrix. The results showed a dual-structure of 66 mol% 8YSZ-34 m% Bi2O3 with up to 76% δ-phase content was stabilized by solid-state sintering, surpassing a bulk conductivity of 10−2 Scm−1 at 500 oC. The coefficient of thermal expansion value exhibited by the composite between 25 oC and 650 oC was found to be 10-12.2 ppm*K−1, which was in good agreement with that of CeO2-based electrolyte. Thus, it was confirmed that the addition of ZrO2 could stabilize the Bi2O3, by improving its capability as a solid electrolyte for intermediate temperature SOFC

This paper proposes an adaptive fuzzy neural network backstepping control scheme for bilateral teleoperation systems with asymmetric time delays induced by the communication links and various uncertainties. Specifically, the control scheme adopts a kind of asymmetric structure to design respectively the fuzzy-neuralnetwork adaptive controllers of the master and slave sides. For reducing the convergence time of trajectory error, instead of conventional tracking error signals, the velocity-based parameters is applied in the master side. And the backstepping controller in the slave side effectively avoids the acquisition of acceleration signal for engineering application. Meanwhile, the joint frictions of manipulators and the additive uncertainties of environmental parameters are substituted by the non-power approximate signals of the fuzzy logic algorithms, which copes with the passivity problem of the time-delayed channel. Under ignoring the upper bound information of the external disturbances, the asymptotically stability and trajectory tracking performance of the closed-loop system is analysed by the Lyapunov function. Finally, the experimental tests demonstrate that the closed-loop teleoperation system is stable under asymmetric time delays and possess a better joint position tracking performance than other neural network control schemes.
