        Preparation of lithium-doped NaV6O15 thin film cathodes with high cycling performance in SIBs

        Lithium ions-doped NaV6O15 thin films have been prepared using a simple low temperature liquid phase deposition method and subsequent annealing process. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), scanning elec- tron microscopy (SEM), and photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) have been used to study the structural and physicochemical characteristics of the NaV6O15 film. The films were grown on the FTO conductive glass and used directly as an electrode of sodium ion batteries. The prepared lithium ions-doped NaV6O15 thin film electrodes showed an excellent cycling stability and discharge capacity, which may be attributed to the stability of the Li+ embedded into the gap between the V–O layers to maintain the structure and its stable β-phase structure transformed after the first cycle. The cycling stability greatly improved with increasing annealing temperature, while the discharge capacity decreased. The capacities of the film electrodes annealed at 400 °C and 450 °C maintained above 97% after 100 cycles. The lithium-doped NaV6O15 underwent a phase transition dur- ing the first charge/discharge cycle. The new transformed phase has perfect crystal structure stability undergoing insertion and deinsertion of Na+. Therefore, the lithium-doped NaV6O15 thin film possesses good cycling stability and is expected to be a promising thin film cathode for sodium-ion batteries.

        Development of a New Direct Marketing Channel in the Chinese Rural Market: The Case of Hongfu Fertilizer Company

        Distribution channel decisions involve long-term commitments with other firms that are very difficult to change or replace. In particular, marketing channel decisions in emerging markets are much more complicated due to unfamiliar conditions and problems such as lack of market data and distribution systems. Therefore, when a company considers changing or introducing a marketing channel in an area, it is much more difficult to judge its effectiveness in an emerging market than in a developed market. In this study, we investigate the development process of a new direct marketing channel of Hongfu Fertilizer Company (hereafter Hongfu), a medium-sized Chinese fertilizer manufacturer, and propose an approach to test the feasibility of this new marketing channel in the Chinese rural market. We measure the effectiveness of Hongfu’s new marketing channel from two perspectives: i) from customers’ perspective through direct responses of farmers, which showed that a new channel can increase the convenience and lower the purchasing costs for the farmers, and ii) from the company’s perspective, by calculating the incremental profit of the company using the expansion factor (T/Q) method, which suggested that the execution of Hongfu’s strategy to expand a new marketing channel will result in an increase in profits. The results of this study contribute to the development of a methodology to test the feasibility of a new direct marketing channel in the emerging markets such as the Chinese rural market. Traditional and indirect distribution channels in emerging markets are generally not very efficient and difficult to change. Especially, in emerging markets, like the Chinese rural market, the methods of testing channel feasibility must be different from that of developed markets. Considering market situations, market experiments can be more effective then systematic market surveys in testing channel feasibility in emerging markets. This study implies that managers must learn to cope with a transition from the traditional marketing channels in emerging markets. With the development in farmers’ understanding of marketing concept, the transition from traditional marketing channel is unavoidable for all firms. Farmers in China are generally very conservative, however, their buying behaviors are changing. Therefore, fertilizer companies should try to adjust in accordance with farmers’ demand characteristics that the efforts to meet the economic needs of farmers with new marketing channels as well as trust building are critical in the near future.

        Impact of Pursuing Goals on Customer Channel Preference: Mediating Effects of Product Utility and Process Utility

        This paper explores the influence of pursuing goals on customer channel preference in Chinese rural market. With the rapid change in distribution channels and increase in multi-channels, it is necessary to understand the preference for channel choice as well as product choice. This study empirically validated the conceptual framework of the relationship between the pursuing goals and customer channel choice proposed by Balasubramanian, Raghunathan, and Mahajan (2005). Based on the survey data of 232 fertilizer customers in Chinese rural market, this study explores how economic, social, and psychological pursuing goals can impact customer channel preference by mediating variables of product utility and process utility. The results indicate that pursuing goals positively related with product utility and process utility, and product / process utility can mediate the relationship between pursuing goals and customer channel preference positively. Consequently, we can conclude that customers' economic-social-psychological pursuing goals can directly influence customer channel preference via their purchase process utility and product utility. This result also implies that product utility is effective on process utility during consumer's buying decision making, and process utility and product utility are not mutually independent. Therefore, purchase process utility is a "latent driving force" on customer's channel choice decision.

      • Association Between the GSTP1 Codon 105 Polymorphism and Gastric Cancer Risk: an Updated Meta-analysis

        Objective: The current meta-analysis was performed to address a more accurate estimation of the association between glutathione S-transferase P1 (GSTP1) codon 105 polymorphism and risk of gastric cancer (GC), which has been widely reported with conflicting results. Methods: A comprehensive literature search was conducted to identify all the relevant studies. Fixed or random effect models were selected based on the heterogeneity test. Publication bias was estimated using Begg's funnel plots and Egger's regression test. Results: A total of 20 studies containing 2,821 GC cases and 6,240 controls were finally included in the analyses. Overall, no significant association between GSTP1 polymorphism and GC risk was observed in worldwide populations. However, subgroup analysis stratified by ethnicity showed that GSTP1 polymorphism was significantly associated with increased risk of GC in Asians (G vs. A, OR = 1.273, 95%CI=1.011-1.605; GG vs. AA, OR=2.103, 95%CI=1.197-3.387; GG vs. AA+AG, OR =2.103, 95%CI=1.186-3.414). In contrast, no significant association was found in Caucasians in any genetic models, except for with AG vs. AA (OR=0.791, 95%CI=0.669-0.936). Furthermore, the GSTP1 polymorphism was found to be significantly associated with GC in patients with H. pylori infection and in those with a cardiac GC. Subgroup analysis stratified by Lauren's classification and smoking status showed no significant association with any genetic model. No studies were found to significantly influence the pooled effects in each genetic mode, and no potential publication bias was detected. Conclusion: This meta-analysis suggested that the GSTP1 polymorphism might be associated with increased risk of GC in Asians, while GSTP1 heterozygote genotype seemed to be associated with reduced risk of GC. Since potential confounders could not be ruled out completely, further studies are needed to confirm these results.

      • Multivariate Analysis of Molecular Indicators for Postoperative Liver Metastasis in Colorectal Cancer Cases

        Aims: To explore the relationship between various molecular makers and liver metastasis of colorectal cancer (CRC). Method: Using immunohistochemistry, protein expression of CEA, nm23, c-met, MMP2, COX-2, VEGF, EGFR, and CD44 was assessed in 80 CRC cases. The Chi-square test and logistic regression were performed to analyze the relationship between these indicators and CRC liver metastasis. Results: There were significant differences in expression of CEA, MMP2, CD44, VEGF and EGFR between the liver metastasis and non metastasis groups (P < 0.05); no significant differences were noted for nm23, c-met, and COX-2 expression. Logistic regression analysis showed that only CEA, VEGF, and EGFR entered into the regression equation, and had significant correlations with CRC liver metastasis (${\alpha}$ inclusion= 0.10, ${\alpha}$ elimination = 0.15, R2 = 0.718). Conclusions: Combination detection of CEA, VEGF, and EGFR may be an effective means to predict CRC liver metastasis. Nm23, c-met, MMP2, COX-2, and CD44, in contrast, are not suitable as prognostic markers.

        Multi-objective optimization of hygro-thermally curvature-stable antisymmetric laminates with extension-twist coupling

        This paper investigates hygro-thermally curvature-stable (HTCS) antisymmetric laminates with extension-twist coupling. Stacking sequencesare designed to obtain optimal extension-twist coupling and buckling strength. A new objective function that maximizes bothextension-twist coupling and buckling strength is established by using the weighted sum method. Multi-objective optimization of HTCSantisymmetric laminates is performed for T300/976 graphite/epoxy laminates. Results are presented for the laminates that consist of 6-14even plies. The effects of the weighting coefficients on the extension-twist coupling and buckling load are analyzed. The robustness ofthe optimization method is verified by using Monte Carlo simulation for laminates with fiber orientation that slightly deviates from thetheoretically designed direction.

        Vibration of nonuniform carbon nanotube with attached mass via nonlocal Timoshenko beam theory

        This paper studies the vibrational behavior of nonuniform single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) carrying a nanoparticle. A nonuniformcantilever beam with a concentrated mass at the free end is analyzed according to the nonlocal Timoshenko beam theory. Agoverning equation of a nonuniform SWCNT with attached mass is established. The transfer function method incorporating with theperturbation method is utilized to obtain the resonant frequencies of a vibrating nonlocal cantilever-mass system. The effects of thenonlocal parameter, taper ratio and attached mass on the natural frequencies and frequency shifts are discussed. Obtained results indicatethat the sensitivity of the frequency shifts on the attached mass increases when the length-to-diameter ratio decreases. Tapered SWCNTpossesses higher fundamental frequencies if the taper ratio becomes larger.

        Research on the Surface Characteristics of Hardened Steel with Variable Chamfer Edge PCBN Insert by High-Speed Hard Turning

        In this paper, high-speed cutting tests for hardened steel were carried out where PCBN inserts with variable chamfer and fixed chamfer were employed. The aim of the tests was to investigate the influence of cutting speed and tool wear of variable chamfer insert on the machined surface topography, micro-characteristics and micro-hardness, where comparison and analysis of the machined surface properties were also carried out for the surface produced by the fixed chamfer tool. Experimental results showed that machined surface morphologies become more complex and rough, and peaks appear to a trend towards steepness, with the flank wear increase of the variable chamfer tool. At the same time, the thickness of white layer, hardening depth and hardening degree of the machined surface increase dramatically. With the increase in cutting speed of the variable chamfer tool, it is of primary importance to consider phase transition effects caused by thermal load, which will result in increase in the thickness of white layer on the machined surface. Moreover, it will also lead to decrease in the thickness and deformation degree of plastically deformed layer caused by mechanical load. Compared to the fixed chamfer tool, the cutting force generated by the variable chamfer tool is relatively small, where the flank wear area is also smaller and the groove wear marks is shallower. Therefore, better surface roughness can be obtained by utilizing the variable chamfer tool. In particular, the gap between the roughness of the machined surface formed by two tools becomes more pronounced in the scenarios of high speed and severe wear. Moreover, the thickness of white layer, the depth and degree of hardened layer are relatively small for the variable chamfer tool. Therefore, the surface properties produced by the variable chamfer tool would be more desirable.

        Cloning and Expression of cDNA Encoding a Cysteine Protease Inhibitor from Clamworm and Its Possible Use in Managing Anoplophora glabripennis Motschulsky (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae)

        A cDNA encoding a cysteine protease inhibitor (CPI) was isolated from the cDNA library of clamworm Perinereis aibuhitensis Grube. The deduced amino acid sequence analysis showed that the protein had 51%, 48%, and 48% identity with Zgc: 153129 from Danio rerio, cystatin B from Theromyzon tessulatum, and the ChainA, stefin B tetramer from Homo sapiens, respectively. The gene was cloned into the intracellular expression vector pET-15b and expressed in Escherichia coli. The recombinant CPI (PA-CPI) was purified by affinity chromatography on Nicharged resin and ion-exchange chromatography on DEAE-Sepharose FF. The relative molecular mass of PACPI was 16 kDa as deduced by SDS-PAGE. Activity analysis showed that the recombinant protein could inhibit the proteolytic activity of papain. A constitutive and secretive expression vector was also constructed, and the cDNA encoding CPI was subcloned into the vector for extracellular expression. Western blotting analysis results showed that the PA-CPI was secreted into the medium. Bioassay demonstrated that E. coli DH5α harboring pUC18ompAcat-CPI showed a significant difference in mortality to the Asian longhorned beetle Anoplophora glabripennis compared with untransformed E. coli DH5α and control.
