Hydrogel microrheology near the liquid-solid transition
Larsen, Travis,Schultz, Kelly,Furst, Eric M. The Korean Society of Rheology 2008 Korea-Australia rheology journal Vol.20 No.3
Multiple particle tracking microrheology is used to characterize the viscoelastic properties of biomaterial and synthetic polymer gels near the liquid-solid transition. Probe particles are dispersed in the gel precursors, and their dynamics are measured as a function of the extent of reaction during gel formation. We interpret the dynamics using the generalized Stokes-Einstein relationship (GSER), using a form of the GSER that emphasizes the relationship between the probe particle mean-squared displacement and the material creep compliance. We show that long-standing concepts in gel bulk rheology are applicable to microrheological data, including time-cure superposition to identify the gel point and critical scaling exponents, and the power-law behavior of incipient network's viscoelastic response. These experiments provide valuable insight into the rheology, structure, and kinetics of gelling materials, and are especially powerful for studying the weak incipient networks of dilute gelators, as well as scarce materials, due to the small sample size requirements and rapid data acquisition.
RECENT AND CURRENT TRENDS IN BASIC TRIBOLOGY RESEARCH
Vol.2002 No.10
Tribology research is constantly changing focus as new drivers for the research emerge. They include new industrial needs and barriers to performance, new possibilities brought about by new observation and modeling tools, and new people with different backgrounds. We outline the changes in basic academic tribology research over the past 15-20 years, as it is reflected in the research portfolio of the US National Science Foundation. While independent tribology programs may be a thing of the past there is a clear tendency for tribology research to continue as part of other activities, such as nano- and biotechnology and computational materials research.
Cross-cultural training for students of interpretation and translation

Good Pedagogy? Korean Interpretation and Translation (IT) Education amid Demographic Change
Vol.11 No.1
This study is intended to consider language education and migration amid South Korea’s changing demographic alongside its rapid socioeconomic development, aging society, and low fertility rate. The long term effect of these influences have yet to be carefully studied in the Korean context, but can be inferred from the research of Inglehart, the World Values Survey data, and a variety of statistical country data. Since demographic changes carry unintended cultural and linguistic consequences it is important for education policy makers, teachers, and those that deal with the rapidly changing population, to realize the impact of new student types in the traditionally homeogenous classroom. This is a new challenge for South Korea and will be a future standard by which South Korean education will be judged: as either inclusive, or not. This study will provide some resources to 1) improve teacher background knowledge for improving language instruction in the multicultural classroom and 2) provide lessons that students and teachers can use to develop and heighten their cross-cultural awareness: an essential attribute of interpreters and translators.
Foundationl Christo-Centric Perspectives in Christian Education
2009 Journal of Christian education information tech Vol.0 No.15
Worldviews are not neutral, autonomous systems for interpreting human experience, but rather flow from the innate human heart-set of either rebellion against, or willing submission to, Jesus Christ as Lord. Three key elements of worldview entail root identity, core beliefs and values, and ultimate allegiance. Where worldviews postulate substitutes in denial of the biblical answers to those issues, those worldviews must ultimately break down as they chafe against the reality of the world as God has created and sustains it. The resulting “sore spots” (both individual and societal) are often painful evidence of the underlying heart idolatries which may have caused or aggravated them. The joint task of missions and of Christian education (Matt. 28:18-20) includes addressing those “sore spots” by connecting them first to such underlying heart idolatries as may be present and then to the healing Good News (the Gospel), in particular as it is summarized in the New Testament’s seminal proclamation that “Jesus Christ is Lord,” with all that it entails.
