      • Influence of Counter Movement Jump Session with Different Rest Intervals on Muscle Damage and Soreness

        Lara E Silva(Lara E Silva ),Vanessa C Rodrigues(Vanessa C Rodrigues ),Gisele R Vicente(Gisele R Vicente ),Marco Machado(Marco Machado ) 사피엔시아 2021 Exercise Medicine Vol.5 No.-

Objectives: Plyometrics has been used in sports training and many aspects of this modality are poorly understood. This study measures the magnitude of variations of serum creatine kinase (CK) activity and perceived muscle soreness after one session of Countermovement Jump (CMJ) session and compares 1 and 3 minutes rest intervals between each sets. Methods: A group of 30 young male was dividing in two groups and performed ten sets of ten CMJ with 1 or 3 minutes rest interval between sets. Before and after session (24, 48, and 72-h) they informed the muscle soreness perception and blood samples were collected for dosage of serum CK activity. Two (time) x Two (treatment) ANOVA was used to test differences in serum CK activity and muscle soreness. The alpha level was set at 0.05. Results: Serum CK activity measured 48 h after session augments ~2 and ~1.5 times in 1 min and 3 min rest interval respectively. No significant difference between groups that rests 1 or 3 minutes between sets was found. Muscle soreness rises 24 h after session without significant differences between groups. Conclusions: The findings show that the CMJ increases perceived muscle soreness and increases the serum CK activity, and the intervals of rest do not modulate these variables.

Selective Migration and Economic Growth in México

Jaime Lara Lara,Bernardo Garza Gómez,Dania Monárrez Barrón,Emilio Mátar Zambrano,Gustavo Vázquez García 중앙대학교 경제연구소 2023 Journal of Economic Development Vol.48 No.1

The objective of this study is to determine the impact of selective internal migration on regional economic growth in Mexico. The net skilled migration rate has no significant impact on growth. The net migration rate is positively correlated with economic growth, but has no effect when endogeneity is solved. Together, the results indicate that there is no significant and robust causal impact of migration on growth. These results sustain even when we consider the negative effect that population growth rate have on regional economies.

Refined topology model of the STT3/Stt3 protein subunit of the oligosaccharyltransferase complex

        Lara, Patricia,Ojemalm, Karin,Reithinger, Johannes,Holgado, Aurora,Maojun, You,Hammed, Abdessalem,Mattle, Daniel,Kim, Hyun,Nilsson, IngMarie American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Bi 2017 The Journal of biological chemistry Vol.292 No.27

<P>The oligosaccharyltransferase complex, localized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) of eukaryotic cells, is responsible for the N-linked glycosylation of numerous protein substrates. The membrane protein STT3 is a highly conserved part of the oligosaccharyltransferase and likely contains the active site of the complex. However, understanding the catalytic determinants of this system has been challenging, in part because of a discrepancy in the structural topology of the bacterial versus eukaryotic proteins and incomplete information about the mechanism of membrane integration. Here, we use a glycosylation mapping approach to investigate these questions. We measured the membrane integration efficiency of the mouse STT3-A and yeast Stt3p transmembrane domains (TMDs) and report a refined topology of the N-terminal half of the mouse STT3-A. Our results show that most of the STT3 TMDs are well inserted into the ER membrane on their own or in the presence of the natural flanking residues. However, for the mouse STT3-A hydrophobic domains 4 and 6 and yeast Stt3p domains 2, 3a, 3c, and 6 we measured reduced insertion efficiency into the ER membrane. Furthermore, we mapped the first half of the STT3-A protein, finding two extra hydrophobic domains between the third and the fourthTMD. This result indicates that the eukaryotic STT3 has 13 transmembrane domains, consistent with the structure of the bacterial homolog of STT3 and setting the stage for future combined efforts to interrogate this fascinating system.</P>

Incidence and predictors of peritoneal metastases of gynecological origin: a population-based study in the Netherlands

        Lara Burg,Maite Timmermans,Maaike van der Aa,Dorry Boll,Koen Rovers,Ignace de Hingh,Anne van Altena 대한부인종양학회 2020 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.31 No.5

Objective: Peritoneal metastases (PM) are a challenge in gynecological cancers, but itsappearance has never been described in a population-based study. Therefore, we describe theincidence of PM and identify predictors that increase the probability of peritoneal spread. Methods: All ovarian, endometrial and cervical cancer patients diagnosed in the Netherlandsbetween 1989 and 2015 were identified from the Netherlands Cancer Registry and stratifiedfor PM. Crude and age-adjusted incidence over time was calculated. Independent predictorsfor PM were identified using uni- and multivariable analyses. Results: The 94,981 patients were diagnosed with ovarian, endometrial or cervicalcancer and respectively 61%, 2% and 1% presented with PM. Predictors for PM in ovariancancer were: age between 50 and 74 years (odds ratio [OR]=1.19; 95% confidence interval[CI]=1.08–1.32), other distant metastases (OR=1.25; 95% CI=1.10–1.41), poor differentiationgrade (OR=2.00; 95% CI=1.73–2.32) and serous histology. Predictors in endometrial cancerwere lymph node metastases (OR=2.32; 95% CI=1.65–3.26), other distant metastases(OR=1.38; 95% CI=1.08–1.77), high-grade tumors (OR=1.95; 95% CI=1.38–2.76) and clearcell (OR=1.49; 95% CI=1.04–2.13) or serous histology (OR=2.71; 95% CI=2.15–3.42). Incervical cancer, the risk is higher in adenocarcinoma than in squamous cell carcinoma(OR=4.92; 95% CI=3.11–7.79). Conclusion: PM are frequently seen in patients with ovarian cancer. In endometrial andcervical cancer PM are rare. Histological subtype was the strongest predictive factor for PMin all 3 cancers. Better understanding of predictive factors for PM and thus the biologicalbehavior is of paramount importance.

      • Peuyeum: fermented cassava from Bandung, West Java, Indonesia

Laras Cempaka 한국식품연구원 2021 Journal of Ethnic Foods Vol.8 No.-

Peuyeum is a fermented cassava product from Indonesia. Peuyeum or cassava tapay is known as “Peuyeum Bandung,” whose name refers to a provincial capital in West Java, Java Island. Peuyeum is processed through fermentation and uses starter cultures in the form of yeast tapay. The word peuyeum comes from “meuyeum” or “memeram,” which in Sundanese—the native language of West Java—means an incubation. This is because the process to make it requires curing time for ripening. The cassava is peeled, cleaned, and boiled to soften the tissue, then the starter is added and incubated for a certain time. The skill of making peuyeum is a generational one, passed down so that this traditional food is still preserved, even though it has become the local specialty of West Java. Derivative products are now increasingly diverse, which are fried tapay, colenak (grilled peuyeum served with a mixture of brown sugar and coconut shavings), mixed fruit ice, peuyeum cake, and others. In fact, for all the abovementioned cuisines, it can be said that fermentation was applied in producing the various traditional food items. Philosophically, peuyeum represents societies, group solidarity, peace of mind, and language symbolism. Thus, this paper discusses the history, philosophy, process, and derivative products of peuyeum.

      • Neural Transdifferentiation: MAPTau Gene Expression in Breast Cancer Cells

        Lara-Padilla, E,Miliar-Garcia, A,Gomez-Lopez, M,Romero-Morelos, P,Bazan-Mendez, CI,Alfaro-Rodriguez, A,Anaya-Ruiz, M,Callender, K,Carlos, A,Bandala, C Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.4

Background: In tumor cells, aberrant differentiation programs have been described. Several neuronal proteins have been found associated with morphological neuronal-glial changes in breast cancer (BCa). These neuronal proteins have been related to mechanisms that are involved in carcinogenesis; however, this regulation is not well understood. Microtubule-associated protein-tau (MAP-Tau) has been describing in BCa but not its variants. This finding could partly explain the neuronal-glial morphology of BCa cells. Our aim was to determine mRNA expression of MAP-tau variants 2, 4 and 6 in breast cancer cell lines. Materials and Methods: Cultured cell lines MCF-10A, MDA-MB-231, SKBR3 and T47D were observed under phase-contrast microscopy for neural morphology and analyzed for gene expression of MAP-Tau transcript variants 2, 4 and 6 by real-time PCR. Results: Regarding morphology like neural/glial cells, T47D line shown more cells with these features than MDA-MB-231 and SKBR. In another hand, we found much greater mRNA expression of MAP-Tau transcript variants 2, and to a lesser extent 4 and 6, in T47D cells than the other lines. In conclusion, regulation of MAP-Tau could bring about changes in cytoskeleton, cell morphology and motility; these findings cast further light on neuronal transdifferentiation in BCa.

Effect of the Volatility of the Crypto Currency and Its Effect on the Market Returns

Lara Qasim Khanjar Almagsoosi,Murtada Taha Eesa Abadi,Hussein Falah Hasan,Hussein Kadhim Sharaf 대한산업공학회 2022 Industrial Engineeering & Management Systems Vol.21 No.2

In this study, cryptocurrency is a type of digital money that uses cryptography to protect transactions, limit the pro-duction of new units, and verify asset transfers. The focus of this research is to see how volatile Bitcoin exchange rates and returns. The standard deviation of logarithmic returns is calculated to gauge volatility. The finding of the results was based on the Shapiro-Wilk test that was employed to predict normality in this investigation. In addition, the box-whisker plot and statistical process control chart were used to find high volatility. Volatility is now regarded to be a high value. Eventually, Because of the current high level of volatility, investing in Bitcoin is seen as a high-risk endeavor. The purpose of this study is to assist investors in developing a strategy that maximizes returns while minimizing risk.

      • TOUCHPOINT STRATEGIES IN THE LUXURY INDUSTRY

Lara Haug,Benjamin Berghaus 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2017 Global Fashion Management Conference Vol.2017 No.07

Recent years have brought along a significant increase of possibilities to get in touch and interact with potential and current customers (Neslin et al., 2006; Lemon & Verhoef, 2016). Especially the rise of digital media as well as sales channels has added new challenges and general complexity to the management of customer interactions (Brynjolfsson, Hu, and Rahman, 2013; Lamberton & Stephen, 2016). At the same time, consumers’ preferences regarding how, where, and when to get in touch with brands, be approached by, and interact with them are changing (Edelmann, 2010; Batra & Keller, 2016; Sherman, 2017). At the forefront of this trend are consumers of the millennial generation, who are stereotyped to be much more connected, social media present, and impatient than previous generations (Fromm & Garton, 2013; Goldman Sachs, 2016). For luxury brands the challenge is particularly difficult. They want to provide the best experience to their consumers to underpin their exclusiveness (Atwal & Williams, 2009; Kapferer, 1996; Kapferer, 2014) at the same time they are facing a high risk of inconsistency across touchpoints. Their limited experience with digital touchpoints reinforce the challenging task even further (Okonkwo, 2009; Heine & Berghaus, 2014). Not reacting does not seem to be an option in light of the market developments. Following every trend and being present in every possible channel does not appear to be the most compelling strategy either. It raises the risk of inconsistency and badly managed interactions. Rather, companies need to define goals along the customer journey, pick the right touchpoints and manage them in a way to reach those goals, and deduct strategies to provide an integrated customer experience. The question arises how can brands successfully exploit touchpoint strategies to engage Millennials in the luxury market? Most published studies focus on specific groups of touchpoints and conclude that a more holistic understanding of customer interactions is needed (Baxendale, Macdonald & Wilson, 2015; Verhoef & Lemon, 2016). Also in the luxury segment, research has mainly explored the new digital touchpoints or the retail channel in particular, but not taken a holistic view discussing overall touchpoint strategies (e.g. Kim & Ko, 2012; Heine & Berghaus, 2014; Lee & Watkins, 2016). We aim to close this gap by taking a strategic view on touchpoint management and its goals focusing on the luxury industry and Millennial consumers as a customer group to secure a forward-looking perspective. Based on Baxendale et al. (2015) we define a touchpoint as each direct or indirect interaction of a consumer with a brand. This means that brand to consumer as well as consumer to consumer and third party to consumer interactions are included in our understanding, which appears to be highly relevant in light of the high importance of word of mouth referrals for luxury brands and the increasing relevance of bloggers and influencers. To understand which touchpoints should and can be used for which purposes, we first want to understand what goals companies pursue along the customer journey and then deduct which touchpoints can help them accomplish those goals. Is a brand website for example a tool that should convert customers to buy or is it rather an information tool that nurtures awareness in the pre-purchase phase? Depending on the answer, the content and website design as well as the definition what constitutes success for the website presence need to be fundamentally different. If the goal has not been defined in advance, the management of the website may appear difficult as different directions may be pursued. To shed light on these challenges, we use a literature review to develop a semi-structured interview guide. We then speak to industry experts to learn more about the goals they pursue in each phase of interaction with consumers along the customer journey. We deduct the types of interactions that are the most fruitful to successfully perform these interactions. This way, we aim to deduct first insights into the management of touchpoints. These can later on be further deepened.

Nutrient Load Estimates for Manila Bay, Philippines using Population Data

        Lara Patricia A. Sotto,Arthur H. W. Beusen,Cesar L. Villanoy,Lex F. Bouwman,Gil S. Jacinto 한국해양과학기술원 2015 Ocean science journal Vol.50 No.2

A major source of nutrient load to periodically hypoxic Manila Bay is the urban nutrient waste water flow from humans and industries to surface water. In Manila alone, the population density is as high as 19,137 people/km2. A model based on a global point source model by Morée et al. (2013) was used to estimate the contribution of the population to nitrogen and phosphorus emissions which was then used in a water transport model to estimate the nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) loads to Manila Bay. Seven scenarios for 2050 were tested, with varying degrees and amounts for extent of sewage treatment, and population growth rates were also included. In scenario 1, the sewage connection and treatment remains the same as 2010; in scenario 2, sewage connection is improved but the treatment is the same; in scenario 3, the sewage connection as well as treatment is improved (70% tertiary); and in scenario 4, a more realistic situation of 70% primary treatment achieved with 100% connection to pipes is tested. Scenarios 5, 6, and 7 have the same parameters as 1, 2, and 3 respectively, but with the population growth rate per province reduced to half of what was used in 1, 2, and 3. In all scenarios, a significant increase in N and P loads was observed (varying from 27% to 469% relative to 2010 values). This was found even in scenario 3 where 70% of the waste water undergoes tertiary treatment which removes 80% N and 90% P. However, the lowest increase in N and P load into the bay was achieved in scenarios 5 to 7 where population growth rate is reduced to half of 2010 values. The results suggest that aside from improving sewage treatment, the continued increase of the human population in Manila at current growth rates will be an important determinant of N and P load into Manila Bay.
