Hybrid-Fiber-Reinforced Composite Boards Made of Recycled Aramid Fibers: Preparation and Puncture Properties

        Yu-Chun Chuang,Limin Bao,Ching-Wen Lou,Jia-Horng Lin 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.2

Protective textiles require massive consumption of fibers and fabrics, which is responsible for diverse highstrength fabric waste. Wrongly arranged disposal of textile waste is equivalent to the waste valuable resource while causing environmental pollutions. Aramid selvages are worthwhile recycling and used in this study. They are scattered into Aramidstaple fibers and mixed with low melting point polyester (LMPET) fibers to form the Aramid matrices employing the nonwoven process. The matrices are added to different combinations to form Aramid composite matrices and hybrid-fiberreinforced composite boards. The process of shearing, crowding, and friction helps improve the mechanical properties of the composite boards according to the evaluations of conducted tests. With the premise of minimum damage to the fibers, this study uses recycled Aramid waste to produce composite boards that have features of high performance and low productioncost. As a test result, the hybrid-fiber-reinforced composite boards with 90 wt% of recycled Aramid fibers have the optimal mechanical property and static puncture resistance.

Shielding-benefit Evaluation of Electromagnetic Radiation and UV Radiation for Multifunctional Composite Polypropylene Woven Fabrics

        Ting An Lin,Yu-Chun Chuang,Jan-Yi Lin,Mei-Chen Lin,Ching-Wen Lou,Keng Siang Sim,Jia-Horng Lin 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.10

People have increasingly rising health consciousness in recent years and researchers are thus devoted themselvesto develop multi-functional textile products. In this study, stainless steel (SS) filaments are used for electromagnetic shieldingeffectiveness (EMSE) while polypropylene (PP) filaments are used for ultraviolet resistance and good mechanical properties. Spinning and weaving continuous formation techniques are employed to produce wrapped yarns with SS and PP filaments, after which a weaving process is employed for the preparation of SS/PP woven fabrics. The woven fabrics are tested forEMSE and UV resistance, examining the effect of the lamination-layer numbers and lamination-layer angles. Test resultsshow that the optimal EMSE and UV resistance occur when SS/PP woven fabrics are laminated with two layers at 90 °. Notonly focus on the mechanical performance, the proposed woven fabrics with good EMSE, UV resistance, and a light weight, and are good candidate for a variety of application as required. The proposed UV resistance and EMSE woven fabricssignificantly increase the additional values of traditional textiles.

Three Dimensional Nylon Cushioning Composite Fabrics: Manufacturing Technique and Property Evaluations

        Jia-Ci Jhang,Ting Ru Lin,Yu-Chun Chuang,Ching-Wen Lou,Jia-Horng Lin 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.3

It is trendy to use polymers with different forms in a diversity of fields. This study uses nylon fibers and lowmelting-point polyester (LMPET) fibers or low melting point polylactic acid (LMPLA) fibers to fabricate three-dimensionalnylon/LMPET and nylon/LMPLA cushioning composite fabrics employing the nonwoven manufacturing. The employmentof needle punching process and thermal treatment reinforce the cushioning composite fabrics, and the subsequent thermalbonding points strengthen the mechanical properties effectively. In comparison to pure nylon nonwoven fabrics, the nyloncushioning composite fabrics exhibit higher tensile strength by 2.3 times regardless of whether it is a nylon/LMPET or nylon/LMPLA cushioning composite fabric. Similarly, based on the hammer rebound rate measurement, when the 3D cushioningcomposite fabrics are composed of 20 wt% of LMPLA fibers or 80 wt% of LMPET fibers, the hammer rebound rate reaches20 %, which is 1.4 times greater than that of the control group. Additionally, the composite fabrics that are composed of80 wt% of LMPLA fibers or 40 wt% of LMPET fibers also demonstrate higher compression recovery than the control group.

Multi-walled Carbon Nanotubes/Polypropylene-based Coating Layer on the Composite Metal Filaments: Characteristic Evaluations and Radiation-shielded Fabric

        Mei-Feng Lai,Chen-Hung Huang,Ching-Wen Lou,Yu-Chun Chuang,Cyun-Yu Wei,Jia-Horng Lin 한국섬유공학회 2022 Fibers and polymers Vol.23 No.3

In this study, polypropylene (PP) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are used to coat stainless steel(SS) wrapped yarns, the product of which is then fabricated into conductive textiles. Afterwards, the tensile properties, surface resistivity, and electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMSE) of conductive textiles are evaluated, therebydetermining the influences of the MWCNTs content. The test results show that using MWCNT can effectively improve themechanical properties of the coated yarns and conductive woven fabrics. In addition, 5 wt % of MWCNT provides the wovenfabrics with a lower surface resistivity and higher EMSE. The influences of the lamination angle and number of laminationlayers on EMSE are investigated, and the maximum EMSE of -49.89 dB occurs when the lamination angle is 0 °/90 °/0 °.

Polypropylene/Carbon Fiber Composite Layered Materials: Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Effect and Mechanical Performance

        Mei-Feng Lai,Chen-Hung Huang,Jia-Horng Lin,Yu-Chun Chuang,Ching-Hua Wang,Ching-Wen Lou 한국섬유공학회 2021 Fibers and polymers Vol.22 No.9

In this study, conductive polymer composites and conductive functional fabrics are combined to serve aselectromagnetic shielding planks. Polypropylene (PP), carbon black (CB), and short carbon fibers (SCF) are blended atdifferent ratios to form conductive polymer composites (i.e. PCS series). The mechanical property, electrical property, morphology, and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of the PCS series are evaluated. The testresults show that with 20 wt% of conductive fillers (i.e. CB and SCF), PCS20 exhibits the optimal tensile strength, flexuralstrength, and electrical property that is 7 order of magnitude higher than that of pure PP plates. Moreover, the EMI SE of thisgroup also reaches -30 dB, which meets level one of civil EMI SE standard. Therefore, PCS20 is used to combine with fourconductive sandwiches. The resulting multilayered functional PCS-sandwich planks are tested in terms of mechanicalproperty, morphology, and EMI SE. The test results show that the planks composed of a pure conductive woven sandwichhave the maximum tensile property and significantly improved impact resistance. All of the multilayered functional plankshave EMI SE that is higher than -50 dB and are qualified for the protection level of standard EMI SE electronic devices.

Profile of disposition, tissue distribution and excretion of the novel anti-human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) agent W-1 in rats

        Ying-Yuan Lu,Xiao-Wei Wang,Xin Wang,Wen-Bing Dai,Qiang Zhang,Pu Li,Ya-Qing Lou,Chuang Lu,Jun-Yi Liu,Guo-Liang Zhang 대한약학회 2016 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.39 No.7

The purpose of this study was to characterize the disposition, distribution, excretion and plasma protein binding of 6-benzyl-1-benzyloxymethyl-5-iodouracil (W- 1) in rats. Concentrations of W-1 within biological samples were determined using a validated high performance liquid chromatography method. The plasma protein binding of W-1 was examined by equilibrium dialysis method. After oral administration of W-1 (50, 100 and 200 mg/kg, respectively) in self-microemulsifying drug delivery system formulation, the pharmacokinetic parameters of W-1 were as follows: the peak plasma concentrations (Cmax) were 0.42, 1.50 and 2.55 μg/mL, the area under the curve (AUC0-t) were 0.89, 2.27 and 3.96 lg/h mL and the plasma half-life (t1/2) were 5.15, 3.77 and 3.77 h, respectively. Moreover, the prototype of W-1 was rapidly and extensively distributed into fifteen tissues, especially higher concentrations were detected in intestine, stomach and liver, respectively. The plasma protein binding of W-1 in rat, beagle dog and human were in the range of 97.96–99.13 %. This study suggested that W-1 has an appropriate pharmacokinetics in rats, such as rapid absorption, moderate clearance, and rapid distribution to multiple tissues. Those properties provide important information for further development W-1 as an anti-HIV-1 drug candidate.
