<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Organic semiconductor (OSC):polymer blends are recently increasing their popularity due to the impressive performances they offer once employed as active layer in organic field-effect transistors (OFETs). Here a novel blend formulation composed by the donor-acceptor random copolymer PDPP-TT(1)-SVS(9) and polystyrene has been processed by a solution shearing technique and employed as active material in a thin film transistor. The molecular weight of the polymer binder has revealed to be fundamental for controlling the vertical phase separation and, in turn, for determining the morphological properties of the upper surface which is critical in terms of device stability. The bi-component active layer has been tested as OFET and by using a top gate as electrolyte-gated field-effect transistor (EGOFET). Our strategy based on an OSC:polymer blend processed through a solution shearing technique has demonstrated to be efficient for improving the final device performance in ambient conditions.</P>

GOODSTEIN'S GENERALIZED THEOREM: FROM ROOTED TREE REPRESENTATIONS TO THE HYDRA GAME

A hereditary base-b representation, used in the celebrated Goodstein's theorem, can easily be converted into a labeled rooted tree. In this way it is possible to give a more elementary geometric proof of the aforementioned theorem and to establish a more general version, geometrically proved. This view is very useful for better understanding the underlying logical problems and the need to use transfinite induction in the proof. Similar problems will then be considered, such as the so-called "hydra game".

Forming Identity and Avoiding Hegemony in the Era of Globalisation

The phenomenon of globalisation has further strengthened the relationship between cultural identity and language learning. The aim of this paper is to analyse the role of language in the formation of cultural identity and the role of culture in language teaching as an expression of identity that avoids hegemonic practices. Teaching languages inevitably necessitates teaching culture. Integrating culture into L2 teaching can help learners develop cultural awareness and cultural identity. In the first case, learners will become aware of the we versus they dichotomy created by false generalizations and stereotypes, and will be encouraged to develop tolerance and empathy towards different cultures. By comparing L1and L2 similarities and differences learners will better understand,in terms of identity, their own place within the spectrum of cultures. Some scholars have heavily criticised ELT professionals and materials for their hegemonic tendencies. This paper, however,argues that teaching languages and culture naturally involves some sort of exclusionary practices which should not necessarily be viewed as hegemonic. The selection of a specific linguistic or cultural model, be it British or American English or other varieties,should not be viewed as an imposition of hegemony, but rather as a necessary means to achieve some kind of intelligibility.

Teaching Business English through Translation

The present paper focuses on the role of translation in Business English teaching from a pedagogical perspective including both translation from L1 into L2 and vice versa. A basic premise of this article is that translation cannot be avoided in language acquisition and it should not be viewed as a negative interference but as a natural and useful tool in language learning. Translation is still regarded as some kind of mechanical linguistic transfer of meaning from one language to another and it is not included in those language skills normally covered by language courses. This paper argues that translation could prove to be a very useful tool to learn grammar, syntax, lexis and culture-related issues in both the source language (SL) and the target language (TL). Teaching a foreign language means teaching how that language is used in a variety of contexts. This is especially true of ESP which should not be thought of as a different kind of language but rather as a different approach to language learning. The present paper aims to provide the ESP teacher with an overview of translation as a perfect tool to teach Business English. Translation is a good pedagogical tool to use in Business English teaching because there are not always exact equivalents between English and other languages. While translating, students are encouraged to notice differences in structures and vocabulary and they have to develop methods and strategies to deal with them. Translation is communication across cultures and as such it plays a significant role in Business environments.

무선 센서네트워크의 라우팅 프로토콜은 데이터의 효율적인 전송은 물론 전력 소모와 직접적으로 연관 되어 있어 네트워크의 전체적인 성능을 좌우한다. 본 논문에서는 대표적인 라우팅 알고리즘인 SPIN에 기반한 보다 효율적이고 간단한 새로운 라우팅 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안하는 Gravity 라우팅 프로토콜은 각 노드가 갖고 있는 Gravity 레벨에 따라 마치 물이 위에서 아래로 흐르듯 데이터를 싱크 노드로 전달 할 수 있다. 기존 SPIN 노드와의 비교 분석을 통해 제안하는 알고리즘의 단순성과 효율성을 보인다.

Drivers’ Preferences for Road Roundabouts: A Study Based on Stated Preference Survey in Italy

It is now known that roundabouts offer high levels of safety, but different researches on this type of intersection show that several factors influence the driver’s behavior, causing occasionally wrong driving behaviors that can degenerate into accidents. Understanding driver’s preferences is an important goal in order to encourage an efficient and safe road design. This study aims to understand user’s preferences on the geometrical-functional characteristics of roundabouts, and to associate these preferences with specific driver features. For this purpose, a stated preference survey was carried out. The declared preferences were collected through face-to-face interviews. Collected data were then processed by applying the correspondence analysis (CA). This research revealed that drivers’ preferences are different depending on the type of driving behavior exhibited by drivers and, only in a less obvious manner, according to gender. Drivers with exemplary driving behavior prefer design elements that ensure a greater safety. Men with wrong driving behavior prefer roundabout configurations that are less safe but that ensure fast trajectories. Drivers with acceptable driving behavior expressed preferences that are specifically geared towards specific geometric/functional configurations of the roundabouts. The results of this work represent practical implications for a correct and safe design of road roundabouts.

Red Pepper (Capsicum baccatum) Extracts Present Anti-Inflammatory Effects In Vivo and Inhibit the Production of TNF-a and NO In Vitro

Capsicum baccatum is the most consumed red pepper species in Brazil. Our previous studies demonstrated the anti-inflammatory properties of its crude extract, whose activity is yet to be fully characterized. Herein, we examined the antiinflammatory in vivo effects of enriched extracts obtained through bioguided fractionation as dichloromethane (DCM), butanol (BUT), and residual aqueous (RAq) extracts and its influence on inflammatory mediators produced by macrophages in vitro. We demonstrated that all C. baccatum extracts presented anti-inflammatory activity in vivo. In addition, we showed that BUT and RAq were more effective in inhibiting the neutrophil migration induced by carrageenan (Cg) to peritoneal cavity and both extracts inhibited paw edema induced by Cg, prostaglandin E2, and histamine in mice. Furthermore, the pretreatment with C. baccatum extracts significantly reduced the levels of myeloperoxidase (MPO) in the paw tissues of mice compared with the carrageenan group. Once again, RAq and BUT caused the greatest reduction in MPO levels. Moreover, it was demonstrated for the first time that C. baccatum inhibited the nitric oxide and tumor necrosis factor-alpha production by lipopolysaccharide/interferon gamma (IFN-c)-stimulated macrophages. These anti-inflammatory effects seem to be at least, in part, independent of capsaicin. Hence, red pepper has bioactive compounds and might be used to develop food-derived extracts to treat related inflammatory diseases.

Spontaneous pneumothorax in two dogs undergoing combined laparoscopic ovariectomy and total laparoscopic gastropexy

Two dogs underwent a combined laparoscopic ovariectomy and total laparoscopic gastropexy. The intra-abdominal pressure and pulmonary compliance decreased, but the peak airway pressure increased at 20 min after the start of gastropexy with intracorporeal suturing. Right chest auscultation and percussion revealed reduced breath sounds and hyper- resonance. No abnormalities in the functioning of the instruments or diaphragmatic defects were detected. The tidal volume was reduced and a positive end-expiratory pressure of 5 cmH2O was applied. The right chest of the two dogs was drained off: 950 mL (case 1) and 250 mL (case 2) of gas. After thoracentesis, the pulmonary compliance improved and surgery was completed successfully. The postoperative chest radiographs highlighted the residual right pneumothorax.

Ductal Breast Carcinoma Metastatic to the Stomach Resembling Primary Linitis Plastica in a Male Patient

Breast cancer metastases to the gastrointestinal tract are very rare occurrences. Among the histological subtypes of breast cancer, invasive lobular carcinomas have a high capacity of metastasis to uncommon sites including the stomach. Conversely, there has not been sufficient evidence supporting the gastric metastasis of invasive ductal carcinoma. Herein, we report a unique case of metastatic ductal breast carcinoma mimicking primary linitis plastica in a male patient, particularly focusing on the clinical and pathological features of presentation. Moreover, we propose a immunohistochemical panel of selected antibodies including those for cytokeratin 20, cytokeratin 7, estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, E-cadherin, gross cystic disease fluid protein 15, and GATA binding protein 3 for an accurate differential diagnosis.
